  • Well, I am heading East in Ohio for this Overlanding & camping adventure. I have not been in this area yet and it is time to explore new areas. I spent two nights at a remote campsite east of Cambridge, Ohio and used my Gazelle T4 Overlander tent, found new roads to take my Jeep Rubicon exploring, and cooked some good meals. Having a Helio Nemo shower/sprayer for washing dishes and freshening up is a must have. It makes cleaning up after cooking so much easier. I even used my Jackery power supply to recharge my phone/laptop, lights, and camera equipment. Come join me on this adventure.

about widowmakers .... i've hiked thousands of miles on many long distance hikes (over 300 miles) and thousands of times for weekend type stuff. I've woken up with copper head in my tent, I have been bluff charged by a bear, I've been on tops of mountains above tree lines during thunderstorms that just popped up our of nowhere on a perfectly beautiful day. I also overland in my jeep and also have a camper van too. I don't worry about all the things that could happen to me, I just live each day like its my last because after fighting cancer the last two years and winning ... getting out there is the one thing that keeps me going. When its our time, its our time and nothing will stop it no matter how much pre-planning we do. Oh yea, regarding window makers ... I don't even consider a tree a widow maker unless it has obvious signs of dead limbs or damage or unless storms with high winds are forecast.

lemme give you a ferro rod tip ... try this next time you are out .... hold the striker stationary close to your tinder and pull the ferro rod toward you. It gives you a lot more control and gives you those "! strike fires". God bless!

Matt, winter is when the black bears den up to have their young. Though not very active, they still can be up wandering around in mild winter weather. BUT the skunks and raccoons are still all over and will wreak havoc on anything that even smells like food (or garbage). Keep it all in the big white Jeep.!!

Thankfully we didn't have a storm while there. We also loved the fact we were almost at the base of a cell tower. Have a great day Matt. We pitched down by the cabin and slept with our feet downhill. Loved the spot but we didn't find Bigfoot. We did hear a growl around 2 am ( truth ). We love our Gazelle and I am researching a a backpack tent for backpacking in. Alot of the nice Hip Camps are walk in only . Keep on making videos Matt. We have a woods so I always take my own wood.

I just backpacked into a hip camp site last week. I went to REI and found a package that provided a tent, air mattress, and sleeping bag for a good price. The tent weighs 4 lbs. I spent the night with only what I had in the backpack to see if I had everything needed and ate a mountain house meal for dinner and only had a pot to boil water. I found my wood and took fat wood to start a fire. I learned some things for when I do a longer backpacking trip, one is to camp by a stream of water you can trust so you can filter and boil water. I only carried in 32 oz. of water and that is not near enough. I hope to put that video out in the next couple weeks.

@@rubiconmatt sounds good.. I may carry a little bleach to help sanitize the water as well as boiling. Should only take a few drops

Another good one Matt. My pooch Shorty and I went to Tar Hollow a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed running some of the forest roads. Forest road 36 in particular. We had a great time and plan to find a hip cam in the area next time. Our only excitement was when Shorty fell of the cot in the middle of the night. Scared the daylights of himself! Can't wait for part 2 of your trip.
