Great job Gaby! A buddy at work says LG stands for "like garbage"! 😂

If it has "never been run", how did the spark plug get "burned out"? And why did it have gas in it for so long, without it being "Ethanol-free fuel"? That is a CCV, not a PCV. The 'surging' you have might be fuel adjustment of the screw jets, if there are any. Also, check if the air filter is rotted and gummy; replace if it is. Many units depend on the fact that there IS an air filter in it to keep from 'surging'. Did you clean the tank out, too? Use ethanol free fuel (available at *some* gas stations) to prevent this problem again. We do hundreds of generators every year, and the biggest problem is using car gas instead of ethanol free. Additives will NOT work the same as ethanol free fuel, and they cannot stop the fuel from being "hygroscopic" (absorbing water from the air environment) Also--NOT canned gas (too expensive and has a lesser shelf life than ethanol free; which is available in my area in low test: 87 octane and hi test: 93 octane. The lower and cheaper octane fuel is just fine!) That canned gas is over $20/gal. Don't forget to change oil and be certain the carb. needle IS sealing completely! Please check the thread length of the plug hole with the piston at tdc, and measure how long the threads are; compare to plug length. I suspect the plug that was in it was the WRONG plug, and that there IS NOT an error in the book! And, WHY was that plug so black??? But you need to be sure.

@Laser3303 Thank you for commenting! Yes, it must have been used for some time. Yes, we did change the oil and checked out the air filter. I have limited knowledge on why it was stored with gas and not properly stored. There is now ethanol in ALL our gas here in my area including premium. (Not happy about this) The book is wrong because installing the longer plug and slowly rotating the engine caused the piston to crush the electrode. Again, I appreciate your comments and all of your insight!
