Arno Bernard - Knives, Food & Africa
South Africa
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 เม.ย. 2020
We are 4 brothers from South Africa making knives in our small shop. It has been our passion for the last 20 years ever since our dad started making knives in the 90’s. We design and handcraft our knives using a superior quality steel in combination with authentic South African materials to create unique handles. Our designs are simple, yet beautiful. Our knives are tough enough to use nice enough to collect.
Making a Timascus Folding Knife Pocket Clip and Flame Anodizing It | iMamba
Making a timascus folding knife pocket clip and using flame anodizing along with a heat treat oven. The oven provides consistent heat across the entire piece, making the heat anodizing process much simpler to manage. This was our initial effort to anodize our iMamba timascus pocket clip.

Engraving an Assegai spear onto our pocket clip for the bolt action pen
มุมมอง 1328 หลายเดือนก่อน
We wanted to engrave a detailed assegai spear along the bottom of the pocket clip. It had to appear clean and intricate. We plan to place the pen number above the spear so that it would be concealed until the pen was tilted just right to reveal it. #arnobernardpens #edccarry #HighEndBeauty #edc #southafricanart #cncmachinist #titaniumjewelry #titanium #engraving

This Clips ar for the new Modells? 😍 I preorderd one from Germany! 😁 It looks so 😎 with the Timascus Clip an Pivot Ring But I wish you make one with Zirconium and other Blade Finish or Steel! I love the old Finish (near Mirror polished with Hand) 10 Times more as the new Stonewashed! 😒
@@dr.mehrwertgert6924 These are a limited run. Maybe a future run we will do other blade steel and materials 👍
@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 Can you pleas make a short Video from the new Model? 🙏🏼
@@dr.mehrwertgert6924 video of the timascus? The shop is closed and we open on the 9th of Janaury.
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 Jes with the Timascus!
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 and when is the Drop from the Orca 2.0? I want it! 😊
Hello. I preorderd the new Version with the Timascus! 👌🏼 Pleas make a Timascus and Zirconium Set for the Imanba! 🙏🏼 Thats My 4th Imamba and I would be see a Timascus or Zirconium Set on my other Version with Damasteel or on the Version with Warthhog Thusk, RWL-34 near Mirror polished! 😉
Beautifully amazing❤
Thank you
Good job 👍 Regards from Down Under.
Thank you
Wow. This is an exciting demonstration. Thanks.
Very interesting. Looks great. 💪😃👍
Love it ❤
Wow, a lot of work just for the clip, can’t wait to see the completed knife. Regards from Down Under.
Is that dovetailed into the fixture??
@@CNYKnifeNut no. We machined a pocket for the pocket clip and made a split fixture to clamp the pocket clip
Very cool to watch and talented grinding! Are all the knives still ground this way by hand? I just bought an iMamba made this year and it’s a nice blade.
@@jkstdstang Thank you. Yes all of them are grinded like this.
Interesting. So I'm not the first one thinking of using wire and sinker EDM for certain steps/parts in knoife production. What parts do you machine that way of I may ask?
@@heinzhaupthaar5590 We machine all our blades, pivot hole, detent hole, jimping on spine, nail nick and the lock face on the blade. This gives us a precise repetitive procedure. We also wire our own tungsten plates for the bearings to run on.
Yeahhhhh......I'm excited 💪😃👍
@@messerdepot Looking forward to it, think it is going to look nice. 👌
Beautiful! I have one just like it in RWL 34.👍
Any plans to bring the Orca back?
@@CNYKnifeNut Yes 👍. Already in the making. First ones will be available in October exclusively at Blade Gallery. It is similar size to the iMamba but with a few changes, look and feel.
What is the difference between them?
@@tomsmit2065 Profiles are slightly different but differences to mention are the pivot screws, milling on the blade (nail nick), larger back spacer and Orca uses M390 steel
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 thank you for the clarification!
Thanks. Great video. I have one of your folders and it is a thing of beauty.
Awesome knife , I have one of your knives from 24 years ago , excellent knife . You should really make a paring knife as one of your production knives . So useful in the field to have a thin blade knife .
Simply stunning 👌
Simply stunning 👌
Never thought of a hollow grind jig as a surface grinder 🤔 I'll be trying that soon.... Thanks guys 👍
I've used 2 Benchmades with M390 for +10? years. Great steel, takes time to sharpen. Other than a ceramic stick, sharpening is +12 months.
Thank you for sharing!
Precision work, looks good 👍 Regards from Down Under.
Loving it!
Where are the iMambas for the lefthanded fans???
Still in development
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804That’s good news 😊
Beautiful knife, wish I could afford one ! Regards from Down Under.
Thank you.
Absolut sexy ❤❤
You know red white and blue kudo bone looks amazing but a question remains? How do we get blonde trump follicles Incorporated like fairy dust…..maybe a bronze pivot or Arno magic!!!???? Boom no sales to the EU nesscary…America my guys America….you will be building sold knives.
Very nice 👍, beautifully made.
Thank you
👍
Nice……but what’s it cost?
$369
You’ll have to explain what on earth this video is about, all a mystery!
The video is about machining the spear called the Assegai use by Zulus. This will be the name of the pen. This spear will be on each pocket clip on the bottom side and hidden. It can only be seem when the pen is twisted. The first part is the program we use to communicate with the cnc and the second part is where we actually made 2 samples.
👍
Can’t wait to see the completed knife.
Beautiful work guys!
Thank you
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 this has been one of my grail knives for quite some time and I’m finally at a point in my life where I can achieve it so I will be making my purchase soon. Keep up the amazing work!
gorgeous, i still love the high polish satin, ordered one a few weeks ago with the ironwood inlay i can't wait
I got on TH-cam looking for some ideas about stone washing my imamba blade. Is this something you’re going to be offering?
We will start to offer them on the website in April but doing your blade will be expensive with shipping. But it can be done.
That’s exciting! I’ll have to keep an eye out!
👍👍👍
Great knife, beautifully made, would be proud to own one! With music like that you must be Christians, along with you I would say “Praise the Lord “, the state of the world indicates His return can’t be too far away. Regards from Down Under.
Ah man 200 is steep for the wood inlay but it is absolutely beautiful I do believe I'll be picking one up
Nice
How did you keep the blade straight after Heat Treat?
They do not always keep straight. Some keep straight and some don’t. We have to calibrate them when we receive them back
Technically excellent blade shape, just curious why you chose n690 over one of the "super steels ^ like magnacut or m390
It performs really well and easy to resharpen. All the customers that bought one of our knives are more than happy with the performance of the knives. We do consider making a new fixed blade in the future with a super steel so we can have a line for customers looking for a super steel version.
Just found out about you guys and now saving up for an imamba! Can’t wait!
i have a kudu inlay coming from ASC and I'm beyond excited. Maybe the most excited i've been for a knife this year
Can you tell me more about your belt grinder please?
We build it ourselves and someone helped us with the motor. Something specific you wanted to know?
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804the frame, and tension/tracking system. What you used. Can I see it better?
I'd be interested in a Sailfish, and a Gecko in Ironwood for sure. Possibly also a squirrel and zebra.
You can send us an email and we will be able to assist you.
Nice! Where's that knife pouch from at the end?
We are launching them soon on our website. My brother makes them.
reminds me of a fancy sebenza
please invest in a microphone of some sort
We did a while back
Ya the audio is barely intelligible even with max volume
Can you swap the washers or bearings at any time, I'm guessing the knife is made to fit a particular one?
On the new iMamba you can swap them out. The blade might be 100% centred for the one and 99% for the other. That is the only difference.
Where can I find a wheel like that? What brand and model is it?
This wheel was a custom made one. I am not sure where you will find a standard one like this. But there might be one, I am not sure.
How does this inlay hold up with use? Normal everyday use? Is there like a protective sealant over it?
The handle have been stabilized and should last a lifetime. Bo protective sealant have been used. The handles are very durable.
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 Wow! thank you for your fast response. I will be purchasing one of your kudu bone inlays very soon!
