I clean the blade with warm water, the wood handle becomes a little bit Ballistol oil - applied with a cloth. Then the blade gets a little wipe of Ballistol oil, too. It protects the metal and is food safe. Thanks for your awesome movies, hope to see a clean and care movie for your folding knives in the future.
Another excellent product which can be used to polish metal is Flitz Metal Polish and Fiberglass Cleaner. This product may be more readily available in the USA.
After use I my knife in soap and water. If it needs honing I wash it again and depending on the handle materiale it gets some care to. Wood gets oil and leather some wax.
Just a comment or two….Should you store your knife in sheath for an extended period of time? And all of the products that you use by name may not be available in certain areas of world maybe just South Africa. Can you suggest what to use but not by a brand name. Think that would be a great help! Thanks!!! Great video. Great knives. Not only beautiful but functional. They are to be used.
You can use tru oil which is mostly available in gum stores and when we made cape buffalo sheaths we used regular shoe polish to treat the sheath. It also works
Hi Arno, thank you very much for your excellent and informative video! Each knife enthusiast has his own special tips, her are mine: To remove rust or hard dirt from the blade I use the Perceval polish paste which makes it shiny again. (Comes from France) Especially for carbon blades but also for other blades which you do not use very often: I oil them with Camelia Oil, it is a light oil from the seed of the Camelia tree. It is a fantastic corrosion protection. What I do not use is the famous Ballistol oil, which has a bit a stinky smell and is not recommended when you use your knife for food prep! For the protection of the leather sheath I can recommend a special leather fit from Centralin (Germany) or the the mentioned Camelia oil. Wood handles love the Macadamia Nut-Oil.
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 Thank you for your kind words. It depends where you live to get the different things. Your recommendations are hardly to get in Europe! By the way: what is the name of your nice knife which can be won? Handles made of carbon?
I just clean my knives with soap and water. After cleaning I use camellia oil for the blade. If there’s some rust on the blade i polish it with Autosol metal polish. The tip with store the knife outside the sheath is nice to know! I would love to win the knife! Would match perfect to my snakeskin rinkhals
@@arnobernard-knivesfoodafri1804 When the handle is very dry and needs deep feeding - a good idea is to apply liberal amount of WoodDock and wrap in cling wrap and leave to soak
Thanks for the great information. I have often wondered how to best care for the natural handle material especially. Also I use KPL for my folders and EDCI on my daily user blades.
Great video packed with so many useful tips, thanks so much. Sometimes when I’m in a hurry to clean my knives I use a spray on degreaser, this may not be the best method, but it’s very effective if time is a problem. That’s certainly a beautiful knife you have there, I particularly like the pattern in the handle, and I would certainly be very proud to own it. Thanks again for the informative video, regards from Down Under.

Thank you for the informative video, Arno. It has been recommended to me to use CorrosionX to protect my knives and other metal objects from corrosion. It seems to work well. Regards. Brendan
What part of the world do you guys get your mammoth molars from? And what angle do you sharpen your blades at? Awesome knives!! I've got the Orca and squirrel mammoth molar now can't wait to add more!! Keep those knives coming!
I sometimes coat my high carbon steel knives with Vasline and the handle with Tru Oil that you can get at a gun store, works just as well and for the sheat i coat it with normal shoe polish ... Thank for making this video!!! Maak nog😂
For my fixed blades with Mammoth Molar handles, I like to use Renaissance micro-crystalline wax on the entire knife. Renaissance wax was developed by the British Museum Research Laboratory for the preservation of metal objects as well as wood and ivory objects; so, I figure that it's good enough for me. In truth, I just want to win the knife; but, you really can't go wrong with Renaissance wax ! Check it out...
Take care of the tip of your knife, is is the most exposed and sometimes most abused and weakest part of your knife, if you take care of the tip the rest of the blade will follow. Do not leave your knife or sheath in direct sun or high heat conditions. Ultraviolet light oxidizes wood. Heat breakes down the protective oils of most hardwoods and also weakens adhesive bonds. Prolonged exposure to the sun and heat will eventually destroy your knife sheaths.
Congrats to Matthew Peach for winning the knife!
Love my Aron knife. It's too pretty to take outside and use.
Really good advice, such beautiful knives deserve to be treated like this to preserve them as heirlooms for the next generation!
Thank you John

We just bought some on Ebay.
Very informative thanks, where does get that simicthrome stuff from, and is it food safe?
Thank you. You get it from Ebay. I think it is not 100% food safe. So will rinse it with soap before slicing any food.
please show us the best way to sharpen doing least amount of damage and stock removal
Are you referring to sharpening or grinding?

Should I be using the same product (furniture wax) for the warthog tusk handles? Or would you recommend something else?
We use it on our warthog tusk so yes it will help the knife not to dry out too much.
