The Devil Wears Prada Musical with Vanessa Williams is devilishly good | West End Review
The Devil Wears Prada musical is one of the most highly anticipated shows of 2025 and for a good reason. I went to see it with a decent dose of scepticism but I needed to leave it at the door because this is definilitely a movie to musical adaptation worth seeing. Do you plan to go and check it out? Let me know in the comments below! 👠

WICKED movie VS musical: 5 reasons why seeing this musical LIVE is essential
For me….this musical, is absolutely brilliant….loved it! Probably the best & most memorable shows. 10/10
When I heard they were going to make a musical, my first thought was DO-NOT-TOUCH-THAT-MOVIE!!! But… I was there last week at the opening night in the Dominion Theatre and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. I fully agree the cast is excellent, staging and set design top, outfits top. Regarding music: some numbers (e.g. I only love you for your body) are 100% Elton-style, others may be more difficult to be recognized as his compositions. The refrain of the number „Runway“ sung by Emily reminds me of „Somewhere“ from West Side Story - I really hope it‘s not going to turn out to be a plagiarism… Regarding singing: generally very good, except the high note at the end of The Devil wears Prada (the ball scene) sung by someone from the cast and which was totally off-pitch/flat and really hurt my ears. They should work a bit more on that one with their vocal coach. I was also glad that they kept a lot of the original text from the movie. Especially Miranda’s famous cerulean-monologue was kept almost in its entirety. However, I was missing the equally famous „Florals? For spring?! Groundbreaking!“ Also, they added some additional story lines like Emily‘s flirting with the nurses in the hospital where she is hospitalized following her accident (Bon Voyage). This is something which is not in the original movie but nevertheless a good idea as an 11 o‘clock number. Overall, a very positive experience.
Did they make them gay?
I saw the show in May and found the Fates distracting from the entire production. The Fates are, from mythology, three goddesses who roughly look the same (beautiful) but have different functions...but the emphasis is trio. In this production, the Fates were straight out of the Sesame Street vignette that one of these things does not belong together. The production had two women, roughly the same size, with the third the size and height of the other two...together. it does not matter if s/he were a very large woman, a trans woman, or a man in drag....it was distracting from the entire production. The Fates were background singers...both figuratively for the play and literally. The size discrepancy added no value to the production. Only detracted
Thank you for this!!!
Anytime 😊
up until 20 years ago this was the safest city on Earth.
I'm excited, Shaina writes incredible lyrics and the music by Elton John there's really not much to say! im sure the music will be amazing!
Are you going to see it soon? It’s very fun, hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think of it when you see it. ☺️
❤
🥰
if you don't now the ty show, will you still be able to follow the storyline?
For Stranger Things? I think you will still be able to follow the show but maybe it won't be as impactful if you don't know how important Vecna is for the plot. The show has a great production, special effects and cast so even if you go just to see that - it's worth it! A bit spooky tho, so perfect Halloween watch!
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial wow that was a fast answer. Thx :)
Interesting, enjoyed hearing your thoughts! I saw it on the first preview and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't an overall favourite for me. Agree the cast were fabulous especially Amy di Bartolomeo, there were some really amazing set and lighting pieces as well! Think it's a fun addition to the West End!
Ah great you managed to see it on the first preview - that must have been super special! I wouldn't say it's my favourite of the year but probably in the top 10 ☺ I was really sceptical about it as movie to theatre adaptations don't always deliver but I think this one will find it's fandom more easily than some other adaptations.
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial Yes it was fun to be at the very first preview, never been at one before! And I definitely expect that as it settles in I'm sure it'll get even better over time as well :)
Why doesn't anyone ever mention the props! The prop supervisors are there from the start and set the scenes!!! Fab
Thanks for the thorough review - I can tell from your euthusiasm that you really liked this one. I'm seeing it in two weeks cannot wait! Saw Vanessa Williams open a musical concert at Cardogan Hall today so really looking forward to seeing her as Miranda! Did you happen to check out the stage doors after the show?
How exciting! 😊 looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you see the show! Vanessa is spectacular, I hope you really enjoy it! I didn't check the stage door actually so I have no tips for that one, sorry.
I actually wanna watch this :p
Actually? 😅 glad to hear that!
London is scary, lots of scary things happening. Its creepy as well, be careful
It definitely can be, thank you!
❤
🥰🥰🥰
That’s really pretty!
Brilliant voice
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
There is nothing like the golden age musicals dear , Emelda .and the entire company were more than amazing , brilliant show , it’s been many a year since I saw the entire theatre on their feet , applauding for over 5 mins
It was a fantastic show! Wish it didn’t have such a short run as am sure more audiences would be delighted to see it!
Some other xmas suggestions are the candlelight concerts, also the nightmare before christmas concert at Wembley arena
Love these! Thanks for sharing 😍
My choice for a Christmas trip to London this year will be Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Oliver at the Gielgud Theatre, which is a transfer of the highly successful Chichester Theatre staging and is directed and choreographed by the brilliant Matthew Vaughan.
Definitely on my list too! 😍 it opens a bit later in the season but for sure one to check out!
Saw it few weeks ago for the first time just before cast change and absolutely loved it… I booked to see it again on 2nd and 16th November only because my favourite Elphaba (Rachel Tucker) is playing Persephone:)
So glad to hear that! I really want to see it again too! 😍
Also Southbank / royal festival hall has some shows
Woh all excellent suggestions. Old Vic A Christmas Carol seen many times / best production…..Royal Albert Hall- got tickets for John Rutter Christmas on 5 Dec…..Cadogan Hall previously made annual trip to see Christmas Cracker concert…..Barbican saw Clare Teal/Guy Barker in Christmas concert there….. and St Martins - my sister sings there !
Couple of other suggestions : 1) obviously TKTS website on day tickets (from midnight) 2) for day trippers Old Vic evening performance often starts at 7pm and finishes around 9pm so with adjacent Waterloo well connected, still chance to catch last longer distance train (what I’ll be doing on 29 Nov) 3) with it closing in early January recommend checking out Guys and Dolls at Bridge Theatre
Definitely! I was tempted to include it but the list of recommendations was getting too long 😅
I’m planning to see this show on Broadway and will definitely check the time!
Hope you enjoy the show! 😊
Mark Rylance is a heavyweight of the stage. Flew to London just to see him in Jerusalem. I’ll try to watch this. Do you think his performance may get an Olivier nomination?
He definitely is but I’m not that familiar with his work (unfortunately haven’t seen Jerusalem). He is brilliant in this role so I wouldn’t be surprised if a nomination happens. If you are his fan and you have a chance to see the play, then it’s definitely worth it.
He looked to me like he was still in Jerusalem...his Irish accent was OK but his characterisation of Captian Boyle, a classic Irish character, was way over the top, played for laughs and he looked like a cross between Hitler and Charlie Chaplin. He was at times like a pantomime Dame. I blame the director for not being strong enough to stand up to his ego and the rest of the cast did not do the play justice, with the actor playing Joxer not evening attempting to do a Dublin accent. J Smith had the standard US stage 'bog Irish' accent. I flew to London to see it and entertaining as it was, it's a slap in the face to the Irish and one of our beloved plays. MOST OF ALL THE ENDING OF THE PLAY IS COMPLETELY WRONG. IT'S NOT HOW IT'S WRITTEN AND SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED.
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial NO IT'S NOT. You don't know the play or how a Dublin accent of the time should sound, it was an imbarrassment to the People of Dublin, the Irish and our beloved playwright Sean O'Casey. It had a completely made up ending!! I was astounded at the audacity of anyone who would change the ending of a play. Shame on them...belive me if it played in Ireland they would have been bet out of it and kicked back to where they came from
Completely overrated, so many better musicals in the West End, that doesn't include ' Hamilton ',which is also very overrated.
Amen
Taking Broadway by a seismic earthquake TikTok is raving about it and Nicole OMG
She's incredible!!
“Suited for the new audiences”??? Who, the white hating liberals and progressives? Stop ruining great writers work but rewriting them or changing the race or gender of the characters!
I would like to see Hayley Atwell in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in London next year who is an excellent actress from the Marvel movies and the Mission Impossible franchise. The production also stars Tom Hiddleston from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nicole Scherzinger was excellent in Sunset Boulevard 😀
That’s going to be a big production which will attract a lot of attention!! Hope you get your hands on the tickets! ☺️
Unique stage door tip ! Travelled to see Crazy for You’s final show last NYE at Gillian Lyne theatre. Family needed assistance to seats in the Circle. Only lift access is basically via Stage Door and back corridor. So after show we followed musicians out…..with hoards outside to see Charlie Stemp and others. Unfortunately I am not a spitting image of Charlie but had wished we’d stayed around in corridor to have met stars before meeting the crowds (….”Who could ask for anything more” !!!)
Haha sounds like it was a very unique experience for you! 😅 you should’ve signed some autographs!
Love these, and Legally Blonde is a cool wild-card pick for No.5. My picks change day to day, but would be similar, I think: 1) Hadestown 2) Next To Normal 3) Hamilton 4) Dear Evan Hansen 5) Heathers Wicked would be right up there too! Keep up the good work.
Thank you!!!☺️ love your choices too but I do have a confession…I’ve never seen Heathers 🙈 something about that musical never made me drawn to it but it’s such a classic that I feel I will cave in at some point!
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial Ooh, check it out! You'll be singing along in no time!
Stage door is definitely a matter of luck - most of the time I do get to meet the cast and get autographs/photos at the stage door but for example I tried 3 times for Sarah Jessica Parker and all three times she didn't do the stage door (and there were people there who had tried even more times than that!). With Tom Holland I had a selfie stick with me otherwise I would have not been able to snap him due to the massive crowd. Aside from Broadway, London's West End is definitely the place to see stars in plays/musicals.
Definitely agree! And it also seems it can differ from night to night for the same show. I think for the big stars it’s almost a given they won’t be doing it or they’ll just come out to wave at the fans and leave immediately. Still, nice to see them after the show. ☺️
@@KristinaEmilyOfficial yes stage door experiences are fun (when the weather is good). And most of them are really friendly and nice!
Might go see Sigourney Weaver in The Tempest. Not your calibre or West End but I saw Woody Harrelson and Andy Serkis in Ulster American at the Riverside Studios they were both amazing especially as hadn’t seen Andy in human form before, just CGI.
I’m definitely going to see The Tempest! Really excited for it. Oh wow, that sounds great!
You sound so DUMB...

No thanks .
What do you except? Did you see the original? It’s not a new show , you can’t change the book and what it’s about
Nothing can compare to MJ sorry 😂
Hello Dolly was amazing, and it's great to see Starlight Express back, there are so many great shows this year, but so many short runs!
So glad to hear you enjoyed it! And that’s so true…so many great shows I’ve seen this year had 6-8 week runs.
Matilda?
Is there a recording for the play?
I saw the same cast!
Bravo ❤😊

Great video very interesting, Paris is such a beautiful city, I think I would have bought a ticket to see Les Miserables as I could follow the story and the music and lyrics does sound great in the French version. You definitely should of called your video ‘Emily in Paris’ 😀
So true! Les Miz starts in November so it wasn’t on when I was there otherwise would’ve definitely gone to see it! 😍
