Now my understanding is that George dictated the ‘last message’ to Cooke who then scribbled it down, quickly, tore it from his pad, and gave it to trumpeter/courier Martini. Later Captain Benteen would add / clarify the additional translation. It was certainly not Custer. As to the ‘Toms tent fire’ first I’ve heard of it. Not saying it didn’t happen but what’s the source?… Final note it’s still doubtful that any of Custer’s remains made it off the battlefield. The party tasked with the exhumation found skeletal remains all over the terrain and the area identified as where the two brothers had been interred impossible to determine. They had to guess when collecting bones!!… Personally I like to think George remained on the bloody ground with the remains of his fallen men.. I think he would have liked that eternal sleep.. 🥰🇦🇺🇺🇸

@@greatlakestraveller9703 No problem . You quote C Company as not attending assembly as Tom was sleeping in. Then you say George set fire to Toms tent to awaken him. Ive researched the battle for well over sixty plus years and have no information on this though it is common knowledge that George continually played practical, if not stupid, jokes on his siblings. But playing a game on an officer in front of his troops appears unusual as it undermines authority. Take care. 🤗

As far Mrs. Surrant is concerned I don't believe she had a role to kill anyone in the assassination, but she had to know of it since the conspirators held meetings in her boarding house, therefore she was involved in the assassination. But, she should've gotten a 20 year prison sentence instead of a death sentence. If only she could have notified the authorities before the event it would have went different for her in my opinion.

Great Video. Dennison was governor of Ohio. And it still isn't clear to what side that Dennison was on. And there was a Rail Road in Southern Indiana that was owned by Burnside. That ran to Bloomington, Indiana. That had a house of ill repute. A story is told in Bloomington that Burnside and Hooker and Lew Wallace spent more time at this house of ilrepute, than they did in the war. The house of ilrepute, in Bloomington was on the West side of town and the Burnside Train depot was across the street, in front of the house of ilrepute. The house of ilreput is said to have kept Monroe county in taxation, during the war. 27:14

Rubbish..Custer was treated for an STD while at west point. Let’s not elaborate on the mercury procedure in the 1860’s but he was certainly sterile. ( but still later sexually active as he would allude to in all his letters to Libbie).. The rake in the family was more likely Thomas. His younger brother. Plenty of ‘escapades’ there. ( Incidently ‘Yellow Bird’ ( apologises if the name is wrong) captured at Washita was several months already pregnant when taken into custody.. neither Custer could have fathered her child).. Jut gossip and speculation. As can read I prefer fact to fiction.. Stay safe 🥰🇦🇺🇺🇸

Okay you are missing the important history. Vallandingham gave speeches in Congress stating that the real reason Lincoln was prosecuting the war was to establish a central bank. In other words the real reason for the Civil War was to have a central bank. Lincoln passed the national bank acts of 1863, 1864, and 1865 which created a national banking system and a national currency.

I think you may have totally missed the point of this video. It was not to give a definitive biography of Vallandigham's life. At less than 9 minutes, that would hardly be possible. This was to show some of the local places that had a connection to him, and just enough info to hopefully give the viewer an interest in learning more. Also when it comes to his speeches, he was certainly allowed to his opinions, but he was hardly the last word on the subject...

I did a very extensive and thoroughly objective study of Louis Weichmann and found him to be a brave and truthful witness to the actions of Booth, both Surratts, Dr. Mudd, et al. People who continue to accuse him of perjury are usually not researchers of real history but more often apologists for Booth, the Surratts and Dr Mudd and usually cite their beliefs on hearsay and wild conjecture based on paranoid theories about the Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy and the Catholic Church, Stanton or other "theories" spread by fake historians. Weichmann is a ordinary man caught up in a time and place that he had no knowledge of, until it was too late, yet remained loyal to his country and the union.
