Peru Expedition - First Light Guiding - Tocllaraju, Ishinca, & Urus Este
The Andes are the longest unbroken mountain chain in the world, stretching over 7000km. The Cordillera Blanca of Peru is a mountaineers mecca with 25 mountain over 6000m, and more than 50 mountains above 5500m.
In 2023 Jackson Griffith fulfilled a long ambition to sleep above 5,000m and reach a 6000m+ peak. We were successful on all fronts - coming home safely, reaching all our objectives and having a great time.

Ben Mangan on Los Indignados at The Remarkables
มุมมอง 1.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Another 'weekend whipper'. This time Ben Mangan took to the steep dry rock on the Remarkables, belayed by Alastair MacDowell. It wasn't quite as dramatic a fall, but the exploding ice axe leashes ensured some extra excitement. This is the week of climbing in the lead up to the annual Remarkables Ice and Mixed Festival 2020, New Zealand's largest gathering of Ice Climbers. Held every year in Aug...

Minarets, Glacier Peak & Mt Haast. Fox and Franz Josef Glacier
มุมมอง 9355 ปีที่แล้ว
After waiting all winter for a reasonable period of settled weather I finally managed to squeeze in a 6 day trip to the West Coast with Ben Sanford. We managed to ski off Glacier Peak, the Minarets and establish a new route on the East Face of Mt Haast. During the trip I managed to break a crampon mid crux, Ben lost a pin for his split board binding - and we managed to fashion a new one out of ...

Congratulations. Beautiful video. I camped in almost the exact same spot in the valley in July 2022, summitted Urus and Ishinca, unsuccessful attempt on Tocllaraju from base camp in drizzle and low visibility. Also climbed Mateo and Vallunaraju so 4 out of 5 wasn't bad. Going back in July 2024 to attempt Mateo (for acclimatization), Pisco, Yanapaccha and Chopicalqui. Cordillera Blanca is an amazing place.

This is bizarre and unacceptable falling body dynamics. Anybody knows why climbing community quit using old harness design from the 80's, composed of upper and lower part and much higher center of gravity, to prevent the rotation of the climber in case of the fall? Old school harness was changed for a fancy and easy design at the price of inappropriate point of gravity and much higher risk of rotation in case of accident. Anybody understands this? Petzl still makes such models but only in their "verticality" program for workers at height. They don't turn around like this if they fall.

  • @soliv27

When I was young I was told by old mountainers «always three points of support» .. now I saw knee or even head support, and even a single finger. But one toe remains tricky. Progress in safety still goes, inflatable vest against avalanche, airbag jackets why not use it for 'flights' like this ? Beautiful picture anyway lucky photographer. Hope the climber is fine.

I had to climb Mt Haast for a school trip once.. I was terrified the entire time and still can't believe I survived! We went up a different way without the need for hooks or climbing rope, but we had our packs on our backs and were out over extremely high ledges a lot of the time - I still don't know how it was legal haha we were all only like 14-15 years old with like 2 teachers looking after the lot of us!!! Going down was even worse than going up. This footage is so beautiful though, thanks for sharing! Must feel amazing being able to do that without being a big scary cat like I am :D Edit: now that I'm watching again your ascent looks quite similar to ours in some places but ours was in summer so there wasn't as much snow. We were climbing almost vertically for quite a bit of it though, over loose rocks and spear grass.. Again, still don't know how I survived lol
