Zorin OS 17 vs Linux Mint 21.3 beta: Which is better for YOU? ❄️ 🌿
I once was an Ubuntu user (after Madriva died). Observing distrowatch, it is obvious that many are giving Ubuntu the boot. I am now fully on LMDE and Cinnamon, which to my delight is absolutely stable! I was thoroughly enamoured with Mate before, because it was the direct successor of the most excellent Gnome 2, the most stable and useful Linux desktop of the day. KDE was slick looking, but crash happy, and I never looked at it again in more than 10 years now. Then I ran into hickups in Mint 19 for my refurb boxes, so I ran the Ubuntu Mate flavour for a few years UNTIL Ubuntu practically forced SNAP (most applications are available as SNAPs ONLY now), with its HUGE installs (typically 1 GB vs much smaller for.deb) and rogue, un-announced updates (WTF is happening now?), hogging my internet connection with more updates than Small'N'Limp's PeepingFrames OS. BEGONE! Returning to Mint, I thought about them using Ubuntu as a base, and that Ubuntu is based on Debian, so why not use Linux Mint Debian, aka LMDE, skipping all dependence on Ubuntu? Happy times!
Thank you. Very informative.😊
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
my God, thank you VERY much for making this video. Ive been struggling to install Vanilla Tweaks on my mac for months, so glad I came across this.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
Jesus is King!
Amen. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.
Do a MX Linux vs Entropy Linux (originally based on MX-Minimal) comparacent 😁
I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
MATE is more classic so this one for me!
I like both Mate and Cinnamon, and am running the Debian base of Mint, for a lovely and convenient OS. Mate is a fork and continuation of Gnome 2 (used Gnome since 1999), while Cinnamon cleaned away the garbage interface they introduced with Gnome 3, has a modern implementation of classic desktop structures with well organised launch menues, and allowed great customisation all the way back to whatever you wanted. I used to run Mate, because several years ago Cinnamon was not 100% stable yet. I never saw much difference to Cinnamon, except the control panel layouts, but that was never really a big deal. Since dumping Ubuntu when they went bonkers with SNAP (ran Mate Ubuntu 18 after Mint 19 was crashing on my old refurbs), I came back to Mint 20 and then LMDE5 (dumping even Ubuntu's distro base, who needs it anway?), and am now on LMDE6, which only comes packed with Cinnamon. Cinnamon has been totally rock solid for several years now, and it has that timeless, never changing quality just like Mate. If it is good, why change it?
Ya, like others, Manjaro is cool, has a kernel selector tool, big but.... package install issues. In my case, thankfully, it catches things. Endeavour warns about pamac. Use pacman for Arch, yay for AUR, but pamac is distant. And that may get better in the future. I'm currently on Endeavour for my daily. It seems safer thus far, but yes, Arch forces you to put your hands on the wheel, and I like that.
Any idea why I (and some others) cannot sell items? I tried Proton Experimental, and I tried the latest GE (9.21), but neither works. I'm at a vendor, I hold down the ALT key and the mouse changes to the bag icon when hovering over an item to sell. I can right-click or left-click, but nothing ever sells. Nothing happens other than the icon change when holding the ALT key.
Fyi, a redditor posted a workaround that functions for some (but not all) people experiencing this problem. Instead of using the required ALT-RightClick, try using CTRL-ALT-RightClick. Thankfully, this workaround functioned for me.
I had the exact thing happen in Cinnamon. Try KDE.
Good deal! How are you liking it so far? I’ve ran 2 elves and a halfling to Thronefast from Wilds End. Beautiful game.
uses Linux and an NGreedia card. you crack me up :D
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Just installed it today. Got my hands on Linux just this year but I got very much used to some basic terminal functions, so did sudo apt update and upgrade straight away. Mine has the xfce desktop, not sure I have ever had kde plasma version... hope it will work better on my old 2007 laptop than Wilma did, on a HDD instead of SSD. It worked well on SSD (Wilma) but I didn't like its slow performance on HDD, hence trying this. Fingers crossed!
How’d it go?
@@TheLinuxITGuy OK, but the youtube is still jumpy. It was OK on Wilma on SSD.
Cinnamon panel you can place stuff in either the left, middle, or right... XFCE panel has no middle option, it's only left or right... You can use seperators but it's a much more sloppy option. Cinnamon wins with that.
Love the UI, just wanted to let yoi know that there was an update this weekend and it has an error cooldown-numbers lua stackOverflow on line 65
Will look into. Thanks for letting me know.

thanks toolbox of you, it's help me
Glad to hear it!
my laptop have vga, it's name rtx 3050 ti, i don't know to download it into my distro, i use arch linux, anyway, sometimes i switch to any distro, linux mint and ubuntu install driver nvida so easy, but, arch no easy, why ? sorry, my english is not good, i was learned it in yesterday!
There is an easy way. You select the proprietary Nvidia drivers during the archinstall options.
Are you able to use wobbly windows in any TWM? I am new to Linux and like the wobbly windows effect (:
I've mainly used COMPIZ in the MATE DE, but it should work in others as well.
It worked! Thanks!
Enjoy
I have a 3080 and have some odd frame issue. I have to log out to fix them
Ah okay. I thought it was just my 3050. Growing pains of Early Access I guess.
Quick update here. Setting graphics to medium appears to have resolved the random drop in FPS for me.
@@TheLinuxITGuy I'll give it a try. Thanks
I purchased EA thru steam and ran out of box no tweaks from steam other than the enable proton setting in steam.
Nice, I was wondering how it was working for the folks that purchased it after EA hit. Thanks for sharing.
which proton did you use? i cant seem to get it to launch. i click launch and nothing happens.
@@ZombifiedZealot GE-Proton9-21
@@TheLinuxITGuy even with that it just automatically closes out before loading up. I’m on a steam deck. Had to buy it through steam itself.
@@ZombifiedZealotCool, glad y’all got it working.

Hey, i use a unmodified latitude 5580, i currently use endeavourOS and its been pretty perfect, im thinking of switching to cachyOS or getting the tkg kernel, which one would be better? I mostly want it for the performance
I haven’t tried tkg, but I’ve read it provides less input lag and more fps. Test it out and let me know.
@TheLinuxITGuy right now I'm trying cachyOS's kernel, haven't checked out the fps appropriately yet but the responsiveness feels really amazing!
@@TheLinuxITGuy update, the fps on the Cachy kernel are ok, but the responsiveness is what amazes me, for me the fps are the same as the generic kernel though
@@ThingyThongy Awesome! So it’s noticeable?
@@TheLinuxITGuy for responsiveness yeah but zorin has given me better fps, I'll try TKG and update you

You’re welcome. I haven’t tested with 9.5 yet.

Ok i love the ui but i cant open my bags after enabling it does somebody have a sollution?
All-In-One Bag or standard? Works fine for me.
I installed solus but the terminal doesnt open and the app store just doesn't work, i installed another distro but budgie is amazing, any fixes for the problem i got?
Haven’t seen that before. Have you tried a sudo eopkg upgrade from the terminal and give it a reboot?
@@TheLinuxITGuy the thing is the terminal doesn't open
What if you break out and go into TTY (CTRL+ALT+ F1-F3)?
I use some windows progs under wine. Willthey still work?
They should, but I’d recommend testing in a VM before upgrading your main machine.
MX Linux Xfce my daily driver since May this year. Very fast install, quick, stable and easy to use.
Great to hear and thanks for watching
Only two minutes in and I already appreciate the content starting at the logical beginning, the installation process in (almost) real time. Looking forward to the rest of the content.
Thank you so much. I hope you enjoyed it.
it'd be nice if you offered 1080p 23.976 fps. 60fps is laggy
when I install this it says invalid .toc in the client of turtle wow not sure what it means
wow love this UI I was getting frustrated with some of the UIs, but this is a life saver and exactly what I needed. love your tunes too
Thank you so much!
anyone reading this go from a working vanilla arch install to cachyOS? if so, why? I hate fixing what isn't broken unless there's a compelling reason to do so. know what i mean?
PERFECTION ?...for a linux distro...as close as you can get. For the slightly older systems like my well loved Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen3 the light and quick XFCE is excellent. Keep in mind you are using a distro WITHOUT the kludge and fragility of the systemd malware. If I'm force to use systemd then I might as well just run windows after all... This is why I have left the once good Linux Mint and then Debian when it also was corrupted by systemd to sound and reliable MX and Antix.
I really enjoyed MX. Are you running the XFCE version?
I have used Mate and Ghnome but I really lile the symplicity of XFCE. Fast, resource efficient and reliable...
Nice
I love this addon but I just have 1 issue with it, how can I increase the amount of buffs seen? Currently it caps at 2x rows of 8 buffs each.. :/
Can you do a video on how to setup and connect to a hotspot? I'm using MX-Linux 23.4 on my raspberry pi 5 and want to be able to connect to it on my cellphone.
Hotspots aren’t really any different than WiFi at home. You’ll just need to know your SSID and your password.
@@TheLinuxITGuy Does that mean no? I don't know my SSID just password.
How did you get both installs captured together like this? It looks like the mouse seamlessly moved from one to the other.
Thanks for watching
Looove the UI, though I would like ask if it would be possible to get an option to change the amount of rows or such for the "All in one bag" cause I can't see my bottom row.
while I appreciate the tool set, the theming is trash to be honest. They got no polish at all. One example is when you hover your mouse cursor to the corner of a window to resize the window, it's a nightmare to grab the corner properly. It's been so many years and they still have done no work on it.
I liked Cinnamon, it's more polished. While Mate works more smoother, the icon sets sometimes are not proportional.
I love EOS. I gaming on it, and it is awesome. I was using manjaro
Why wouldn't you use KDE on both for a fair comparison?
Because I used MATE…
@TheLinuxITGuy and I eat oranges but when I compare apples to other apples, I don't compare the apples to oranges
