In this video I'll talk about my trip from Puri to Kolkata by Volvo bus. I couldn't get any train tickets reserved. Thus, I reserved my seats using the Greenline Volvo Bus Service. Between Kolkata and Puri, Greenline operates its Volvo Business Class Semi Sleeper Buses. This bus has reclining seats that support your calf. For a seat, I had to pay roughly 1000 rupees. Then, it is almost 500 kilometers from Kolkata to Puri. We set out from Puri Masir Bari Bus Stand at about 7.00 PM. All altogether, the trip to Kolkata took about eleven hours. The trip was comfortable and went without a hitch. The next morning, around six in the morning, we reached Kolkata. There are various operators that provide Volvo buses between Puri and Kolkata. If you're planning a last-minute trip to Puri and can't secure train tickets, consider taking one of these Volvo buses instead.
The city and municipality of Puri are located alongside the sea in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. It is situated on the shore of Bay of Bengal, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of the state capital of Bhubaneswar, and acts as the district headquarters for the Puri district. In recognition of the city's Jagannath Temple, established in the 12th century, it is sometimes referred to as Sri Jagannatha Dhama. It is among the first Hindu Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Since ancient times, Puri has gone by various names. It was originally known as "Sri Kshetra" and the Jagannath temple as "Badadeula" in the surrounding community.
Along with Sringeri, Dwarka, and Jyotirmath, the Govardhana Matha in Puri was founded by Adi Shankaracharya and has since developed into one of the four main dhams (divine centers) for Hindus. In 810 AD, Adi Shankaracharya made his first visit to Puri. The leader of the Matha is Jagatguru Shankaracharya. Local folklore says that Lord Vishnu eats in Puri, takes a bath at Rameshwaram, stays overnight at Dwarka, and does penance at Badrinath. The sixteenth-century Indian Bhakti movements, now known as the Hare Krishna movement, were started by Bengali-born Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. In Puri, he spent a great deal of time worshiping Lord Jagannatha. Furthermore, Radhakanta Matha, a matha belonging to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, is located in this vicinity. Under the Government of India's Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) program, Puri has been chosen as one of the heritage cities.
