  • Hello,
We visited the top ten locations in the city of Gangtok on the third day of our trip there. For this journey, we reserved a car, which cost us Rs. 2200. We went to well-known locations including the Gangtok ropeway, Ganesh Tok, Institute of Tibetology, Gonjang Monastery, Gangtok plant conservatory, Banjhakri water fall & energy park etc. After touring those locations, we took that car to the Gangtok Zoo. It added 400 rupees to our payment. The duration of the tour was 6-7 hours. After the trip was over, we went to the renowned Taste of Tibet restaurant on M G Marg. There, we had lunch.

Gangtok Ropeway: The stunning view of the valley below is what makes the Gangtok ropeway one of the most exhilarating activities in Gangtok. The double cable zig-zag ropeway, which was first used in 2003, can transport up to 24 people over a 2 km span.Since there are no seats inside the cable car, you will need to try to get in before you can find a standing spot with a nice view (near to the glass panel).
Chorten Monastery: The Do Drul Chorten Stupa, also known as Phurba, is a white stupa that was constructed by Trulshik Rinpoche, the leader of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism, in 1945. It can be viewed from several locations across Gangtok. The god worshipped on the stupa is known as Vajra Kilaya or Dorjee Phurpa. Chorten Lakhang, which contains two enormous statues of Guru Rinpoche (Guru Padmasambhava), surrounds the chorten. The stupa is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels and was constructed in accordance with Dud-Zom Rinpoche's wishes.
Institute of Tibetology: In honour of Sir Tashi Namgyal, the 11th Chogyal of Sikkim, a Tibet museum known as the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT) is located in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. On February 10th, 1957, the 14th Dalai Lama lay the museum's cornerstone. The Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology was opened by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's prime minister at the time, on October 1st, 1958. The name was changed to "Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology" by Sir Tashi Namgyal, the Maharaja of Sikkim at the time.
Banjhakri Water Fall & Energy Park: In the Indian state of Sikkim, close to Gangtok, is the Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park, a recreational area and popular tourist destination. The statues and other exhibits at the park provide information on the Ban Jhakri, or traditional shaman healer. A natural waterfall, Banjhakri Falls is fed by springs at a higher altitude. The cascade is around 98 feet (30 metres) high. For the park, 2 acres of forestland were removed and developed.
Gonjang Monastery: H.E. Tingkye Gonjang Rimpoche constructed the Gonjang Monastery in 1981.With a large Buddha figure within, the monastery appears spectacular from the outside. The idols of Khen-lop Cho-Sum and the carved sculptures of Guru Padmasambhava's twenty-five disciples can be found inside this monastery.
Gangtok Zoo: One of the few places in India where animals are kept in their original habitat is the Himalayan Zoological Park, a renowned zoo in Gangtok. The park is one of the most well-liked tourist destinations in Gangtok and has 230 acres of forested area with heights varying from 6500 to 8000 feet. The park is home to many different animals, including barking deer, leopards, Himalayan black bears, Tibetan wolves, yaks, red pandas, huge Indian civets, and yaks. The territory is enormous, and the animals are housed in open enclosures. However, you might not be able to see them all.
