    I don't agree with anything in this video. "Gameplay is too distracting" but you're talking about videogames 😂 games are about playing, not about watching. Story and progression are not gameplay; if you strip those away you're left with the actual gameplay, which usually revolves around combat, platforming and/or crafting. Playable tv shows/movies are not videogames. Videogames are about player expression; I understand why consumers would want to live a specific fantasy themselves, be the hero of the franchises they consume, but those are consumer specific products, not games. If you have to do the game in order to play the game then you're doing chores to earn a scene, you're not playing. Examples of real games are GTA5 Online, Let it Die, Katanakami to a large extent, For Honor to a large extent, and DS2 to a large extent. You won't agree with this. You think elden ring is a great game deserving of praise, but it's not: it's just a tv show that's successful because of shills and live streamers. The ERR mod fixed most of what's wrong with it, and it's still not good enough as a videogame.

      I don't see how you could have watched the video all the way through and misinterpreted everything that I said so dramatically. I said, "games are too distracted" and I was talking about the gameplay. Practically all of my examples were games that primarily focused on gameplay. Also the story is not just told through cutscenes it's told through gameplay which was something else that I was talking about that you seem to completely gloss over. Also, Elden Ring is like 95% gameplay and 5% cut scenes, so I don't really understand your point.

    I never understood the need for such big videogames, really is a quantity of quality type of argument. I knew many people who back in ps2-ps3 era who had anywhere from 15 to 45 games and they can say they played them all, now you have people who have hundreds of digital games and can only say they only played about 10 of them 🤣, great video man 🔥

    I think another reason why Rockstar doesn't bother making games left and right anymore is the change of the company as a whole, but also because of how much success they've gotten from GTA 5 online, so they don't see themselves finding any reason to put resources in making sequels to previous titles they probably think won't "sell" which is why the only other games we've gotten was Red dead redemption 2, and now GTA 6. I do also think Red dead redemption 2 is one of the few open world games worth playing compared to other modern open world games

    This is a good well made video but as I replied to someone, gamers need to put their money where their mouth is. We’ll use Sony as an example since you featured them heavily in your video. Sony has released of the top of my head experimental, tight and focused games this gen like Returnal, Sackboy a big adventure, Rachet and Clank rift apart and now Astrobot and guess what, hardly anyone is buying these games. This now discourages Sony and makes them turn their focus and resources to churning out Last of Us clones cos that’s what sells. This is why they closed Japan studio. Y’all were not buying their games. So part of the onus is on us gamers. We need to put our money where our mouth is

    I dont wanna get into arguing about ER, because such small details maybe irrelevant to the overall point of the video which I largely agree with, but I wouldn't say that "scope creep" is necessarily why Elden Ring doesn't have as good of a replayability as DS3 for example. I'd say its mostly because of exploration vs combat balance which is persistent in all souls games. Combat is more engaging, allows for improvisation and most importantly mastery. Whereas exploration is a sort-of a one and done deal. So, I find Souls games that lean towards combat to have better replayability (DS3, BB, Sekiro) and games that lean into exploration to be less replayable (ER, DS1). Funny enough, I actually think ER has better combat than DS3, but it doesn't resort to it as often. That's not to say that ER isn't the most daunting of these games to replay - but I wouldn't go as far as "monotonous".

    • @dutchritz
      @dutchritz 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Monotonous is a bit of a strong word. I have replayed it twice and enjoyed it, but there were definitely traversal parts that felt like they dragged on a bit the second and third time...

      @dutchritz 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@KrisVickers-wn6dd because of its combat variety as well as wanting to understand the world building deeper, I would say Elden Ring is the the most glaring example. I've played through the game three times at about 90 hours per playthrough and I'm still not extremely tired of the gameplay. Final Fantasy 16 had engaging storytelling in most of its side content, and I wasn't mad at the game for making me spend roughly 60 to 70 hours in order to finish all of it. As much as there is a lot of faffing about you can do in Red Dead redemption 2, it is a very interesting narrative to follow that does take a long time including side content. The quality just has to be there for me to find it interesting. It was the same thing with some older games too, like Bethesda's and Rockstar's older stuff. Ideally, I don't like spending more than 25 to 30 hours on a game, but there have been a few examples like these where the quality was maintained for long periods of gameplay. Most games can't live up to that kind of scope though.

    Breath of the Wild should've taken elden rings place as the third example. I mean it's the most innovative open world game since it came out Listen, fromsoft used to be my favorite developer too, but that Yoda meme would have made so much more sense in the pre-elden ring world tbh, I honestly didn't even get the meme at first watch really, I had to think about what they made between 2009-2019. It's funny how the E3 2019 and 2021 made this meme look accurate at the time when we all thought elden ring could've been it's own thing like Sekiro, or at the very least Bloodborne, instead of copying Dark Souls disguised as a "new IP"

    • @dutchritz
      @dutchritz 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I feel like Elden Ring innovates in ways that Breath of the Wild wishes it did. There is so much better world building and storytelling in Elden Ring. Not to mention the diversity of gameplay options.

    • @davidborned
      @davidborned 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dutchritz BotW did things before elden ring obviously: the game didn't put markers on your map before you've been there, you can also place them yourself visually in BotW through the Sheikah Slate every time you spot something interesting, not just distance guessing (something you have to do in elden ring), trying to place the pin on the map where you think it is based on distance. BotW innovated in organic exploration and the world is much more open and offersmore freedom to explore in not just horseback, but also climbing, paragliding, swiming, etc. Elden ring only offers torrent which isn't even customizable and has zero personality. Breath of the Wild has also offers more freedom in it's world structure (a giant square with no borders between), while elden rings world is kinda shaped like a circle (except mountaintops and caelid doesn't connect), which means all the regions are connected through linear design and they act as small islands, with maximun only 2 regions surrouding them, everything else is water. RPGs are known to house regions that offers environmental consequences, like freezing in cold temperatures or feeling nauseous in deserts, mechanics like these helps the world feel like a real place and gives players consequences if they're not suited for the area, not just boss thresholds. Despite their genre differences, BotW is in many ways more of an RPG than elden ring if you compare both of them to other RPGs

    • @dutchritz
      @dutchritz 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@davidborned those are all reasons I like ER more. I prefer a more linear structure and less sandbox. I find breath of the wild fairly uninteresting because of its vapid RPG qualities. Zelda was always an action adventure game and it ruined the franchise in my opinion. Just because you can do more stuff that's less meaningful doesn't mean it's good, but that largely just depends on what your preference is.

    • @davidborned
      @davidborned 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dutchritz Like many have said before me, BotW was more like what Zelda was at the very beginning with the original Legend of Zelda. It’s the games after that became linear action adventures, while BotW was a return to form and because the series became stagnant and lacking in innovation after Skyward Sword, it was one of the biggest leaps gaming has seen in recent years. Established series can change it’s genre in order to avoid becoming stale. Zelda did with BotW. Fromsoft didn’t with Elden Ring, we just got Dark Souls in an open world. Elden ring being open world just like BotW, means it should reward players for their time with everything they find. In BotW, I could always use korok seeds and spirit orbs and armor sets and weapons. In elden ring I never needed spirit ashes or crafting, regarding the latter is because it was poorly implemented by not offering mechancis like environmental consequences in an rpg, so there’s no need to craft anything because it plays just like Dark Souls which didn’t have a crafting system because it didn’t need it. Important items are scattered around at the most random places often especially in the dlc. Just as you like elden ring more, I like BotW more, but that was never my point, because it’d be a useless discussion. My point here was that regardless of our opinions, the effect BotW had on the industry was bigger and more deserving of that third example. Elden ring played it very safe and even though it was a new IP, they refused to innovate on the genre and just made another Dark Souls, just when I thought they made their new IPs unique and different from each other, like Sekiro and Bloodborne (which was games that actually innovated, not open world in this case obviously but other aspects like combat or weapons), they went straight back to their safe nest of the Dark Souls gameplay disguised as a new IP. And regarding your final point, you could say that about elden ring as well, bigger ≠ better

    • @dutchritz
      @dutchritz 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@davidborned Elden Ring's crafting system is super important to the game! It defines stratagies and play styles for countless builds. It has a way more dynamic combat system then BOTW's three weapon styles. It incorporates level design into an open world instead of a largly empty sandbox (something that not even the legend of Zelda on NES did). BOTW's "temples" are a joke in terms of complexity and exploration. It had real and unique boss fights unlike BOTW's one boss you fight 4 times with minor variations. The crafting system in BOTW was more inovative in terms of combining things, but it's terrible UI made navigating items a nightmare. I think BOTW was the top of the open world market when it came out for travesal, but has been out classed by many open world games in terms of questing, combat mechanics, level designs, rpg upgrading systems and weapon upgrades. Even older open world games like Fallout New Vegas make a better cause and effect system that make your choices effect the world and NPC relationships more than BOTW's largly static world. I think BOTW is a more shallow experience in almost every way other than how interactive the traversal and collection machanics are.

      Hey, Mr complainer guy, did buy the smaller, tight and focused games Sony released this gen? Returnal, Sackboy, a big adventure, Rachet and Clank: Rift apart, Astrobot? Did you buy them? If you didn’t then shut up cos people will complain that Sony doesn’t make these games anymore then when they do, hardly anyone buys them and it makes them instead focus on the Last of us clones instead

    • @JacobPaul-ix7oc

      @@dammyoyesanya4656 Astrobot sold 1.5 million units in two months. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has sold over 4 million units. But sure, "hardly anyone" bought those. Nice try, though. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was bound to do poorly since it isn't a proper Little Big Planet sequel with the ability to make your own content. Returnal is a roguelike, a genre more popular on PC than consoles, and you can find those types of games on PC for half the cost of Returnal.

    I love final fantasy 16. I think that the side quests were the worst part of the game, not because of the content, but because of how they would drop them in large groups Aunt, you would kind of have to go through a long gauntlet of side quests before moving on it killed the pacing of the game and often separated major story beads by an hour or two of gameplay, and a lot of these story beads really felt urgent or were extremely engaging. So I spent a lot of time wishing that I didn't have side quests even though the side quests were awesome

    I don’t think there’s any incentive created by game price or even in general, to create micro transactions in games besides just capitalist greed, or teams looking around and seeing the normalized greed of others, and thinking they need to do the same thing to keep up, and not seeing it as bad bc it’s so normalized. I don’t see why anyone would ever make “alternative monetization” unless their goal was to monetize BEFORE they had a goal to make a game. There’s really no excuse for this “alternative monetization”
