    Excellent. I faced this exact scenario with my 2011 550i X-Drive. I had the secondary warranty and the customer care package like you and the car was awesome. Exactly as you say. I'd do this motor and car any day as long as I have these two warranties on it. But I never had any other issues with the car on the body, electrical, or interior. And I bought mine at 70k miles. AND - I found out mine had a small accident so I was definitely having a good experience. Looking forward to more of your stuff.

      Why not just read the technical trainings that are posted for free and just fix it yourself rather than giving the stealership $15,000 for some bogus warranty and overpriced “repairs”? Unfortunately, keeping an engine such as the N63 happy isn’t as simple as bringing it to the dealership for “recommended” maintenance. If your car has 70k+ you should be changing all your fluids by now including trans, transfer case, both differentials if you have xdrive, as well as your oil. Oil should be done between 5-6k miles of you plan on keeping the car past 100k miles. All of the fluid changes are EXTREMELY easy. They were all easier to do on my m550i than on my Mustang GT. If you don’t like to get your hands dirty then at least read the manuals and forget BMW’s overpriced service plan or warranties. Find a local Euro shop and have them do the maintenance. They are just as qualified and take more pride in their work.

    They didn’t fix your oil consumption issue unless the entire PCV system was updated to the n63tu2 style which includes an extra fresh air breather line connecting the valve covers.

      Correct. All they do is go in and replace the valve guide seals but, left unaltered the design leaves those new seals getting fried all over again.

    @SDCleveland Very good video! I've been trying to figure out the smartest way to purchase one of these e70 X5 n63's to replace my aging '05 Cayenne Turbo. The valve guides scare me, anything else I can deal with. What are your thoughts on running catless downpipes and/or turbo blankets to combat engine bay heat? Have you heard any success stories of that reducing valve guide issues?

      Only thing I’ve seen are people retrofitting water scavenging canisters in the tops of the oil system. Apparently some people have gotten a full cup of water out of their N63 (non-TU2 or 3) oil system every 1000 miles. Crazy!

  • @djTorchLive
    @djTorchLive 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought the oil burning had to do with the pcv valves. Have you had that issue? I have a 2013 but, It's the earlier one N63 (I don't believe it's the TU).

  • @mykolapelyp9065
    @mykolapelyp9065 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    ha ha, I can imagine this is all true,
    I have N63 prior 2013, 80,000 KM. On 75K it was eating 1 litre of oil per 250KM (1 litre of burned oil each two handred km)
    I had to order lining of the cylinder block (basically what BMW should have done on its factory), also replacement of all valves, all the oil connections between engine and turbos, also, during this process in wish of "no return" to the engine work and "buy" some extra 3-4 years of relative piece we replaced head chains.
    It is passed 4 month after cylinder block was lining with iron cast, I drove 5,000 KM - no oil burned, also, I noticed that engine oil running a bit cooler ( - ~3 degrees C')
    But this is great engine power wise, it delivers constant torque with no lag, just press it and you immediately getting the torque,
    I am thinking about adding stage 1, I am sure engine would handle it easy, but not so sure about transmission...What do you say?

    • @clevelandaeromotive
      @clevelandaeromotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s the ZF 8 speed automatic transmission it should be the same one used in the X6M. Even the earliest X6M’s produced 547 HP. Confirm with your dealership or independent mechanic, but I think you’re safe.

    good video, ive read other owners problems and i gotta say, my troubles are nowhere like others...lol i myself havent had to many problems, a bad dme, but i gotta say, i have NEVER owned a car that is so sensitive to low voltage. I also had a bad CA door handle that caused me so many problems i wanted to shoot this car. It prevented the cat from going to sleep which caused low battery and that caused about 100 CELs. Thanks for the link. Please correct me if I am wrong. The N63 TU Engine updates / redesign resolved most of the reliability problems of the original versions of the N63 Engine Design. The N63TU2 Engine is in the 2016 750Li xdrive. This Engine is also known as the N63B44O2. Is it fair to say that the N63TU2 is a pretty reliable Engine now. If not, could you please point to what might prevent someone from getting 70,000 Miles out of the car. One last question... is their a Lifter Problem in the N63TU2 Engine? I have a ticking sound at lower RPMs which reminded me of the old tappet noise. Thanks in advance!!

      @@jimdurnin9554 True. As BMW has ever improved on the N63, I still honestly wouldn’t buy any N63 engine derivative but the N63TU3. (AKA: N63B44T3) At present (summer 2021) those can only be found in 2019 or newer X5’s and X7’s. This is the FIRST N63 where, in the service manual the words, “Material change: Resilience of valve stem seals increased to prevent hardening” was used. It was at THIS POINT, where BMW actually addressed the premature valve guide wear in its engineering.

      Proof 1. Take a photo of the add oil can icon along with the milage every time it comes up. Bring those photos to the dealer. After you add a quart of oil, drive a mile and take another photo of the add oil light off.
      Proof 2: You can also tell another dealer to do an OBD report of every milage at which the add oil icon can’t on. The On Board Diagnostic computer logs that.

      @clevelandaeromotive  ปีที่แล้ว

      Proof 3: Another way to prove it’s burning/consuming oil is drive it to the dealer. Put it in park. Let the warm engine idle. Call the service rep out. Make sure 5 minutes has gone by. This will allow the oil to enter the combustion chamber (which it shouldn’t be doing normally), only there’s not enough pressure or heat to burn it. Now, have the service rep stand behind the car. You go to the gas pedal and rev it once in park. If smoke comes out of the tail pipes, it’s now burning the oil that’s leaked into the combustion chambers. Proof that it’s consuming oil.

    I have a 2009 750Li. I bought it on 11/24/18 w/ 57, 955mi. It has 81,779mi now. It burns oil like crazy. When the add oil light comes on I add 2qts. That only gets me a little over 900mi. I have added 11qts of oil in between oil changes over the span of 7500mi, but no smoke and nothing on the ground, not sure where all of the oil is going. I was thinking about putting some Ceratec oil additive to help reduce wear, thoughts. Have a blessed day.

      Leaking turbo seals to the intake, clogged - bad pcv valve - clogged piston rings. Stop using the car, investigate the root cause of the oil consumption. Maybe the engine still can be saved. My engine problem sarted at 75k km, ignored the increased oil consumption. At 95k km both turbo failed and damaged the engine resulting an engine replacement. Do not wait for that.

    It behooves me why BMW would continue to build & mass produce engines which shouldn't be used primarily as standard when problems & defects are apparent. Heat & rotation are very destructive to engines especially when turbos are added & when placed in the hottest part of an engine (duh) just to garner praise for innovation awards! Simple but effective is my motto just like Honda & Toyota's with their reliability. Sacrificing reliability for beautiful designs or sporting nature does little to earn respect & customer loyalty. High revving engines need extra cooling & better/stronger internals if you intend on having long-term success without compromise. I wanted to purchase a 640/650i but am now having second thoughts sadly,such a beautiful car with a timeless design but I'm not filthy rich either so I'll have to pass!😩😖💔

BMW has been supplying cheap Buna seals for years, rather than more expensive, but also more temperature resistant, Viton seals. My S54 suffered from this problem. Apparently, BMW takes a long time to learn lessons, IMO reflecting the fact that BMW doesn't give a shit about its customers.
