Holy Island / Lindisfarne - August 2024
Located at the very Northernmost tip of England, Holy Island is steeped in history and Celtic myth. Accessible via a tidal causeway this is an absolute gem of a destination. A craggy castle with a fascinating history, a quaint picture postcard village, with panoramic views of both land and sea thrown in for good measure.

Walking The Thames Path Part 9. Tadpole Bridge To Lechlade
มุมมอง 103วันที่ผ่านมา
Overcast skies greeted us this morning, yet the weather held as we wended our way ever closer to the source. We barely heard a car all day. Wildlife was abundant, and the quiet serenity of the river and surrounding landscape was delightful. We covered 11 miles, eventually arriving at a pub called the Riverside. Listen out for the song playing through the speaker's at the very end. Talk about apt!
A Coastal Walk To Berwick
มุมมอง 16821 วันที่ผ่านมา
In early August we were on holiday in Northumberland. On this particular day I took a solo coastal walk from our holiday cottage along the coast path to Berwick. The skies were blue, and the day was warm. It was a relatively short but wholly pleasant wander.
Walking The Thames Path Part 8. Babcock Hythe To Tadpole Bridge
มุมมอง 8521 วันที่ผ่านมา
An 11 mile stretch undertaken in near perfect hiking conditions. This section stays very close to the river, and is almost entirely rural as it meanders its way towards the source. The Thames is narrowing now, a far cry from the behemoth that carves through the nation's capital. Abundant wildlife, a rich array of flora. And oh the pubs, these glorious and traditional inns. This is England at it...
A Secret Waterfall

Hidden away at the very Northernmost part of England is Routin Linn, a beautiful natural cascade which Joy read about in an obscure blog. So we went on a hunt into the wilds of Northumberland, and this is what we discovered. . .
Walking The Thames Path Part 7. Osney Bridge (Oxford) To Babcock Hythe

This was our first Thames walk in almost 11 months, due to Joy sustaining a back injury. We were delighted to return, this time following the river as it led us through lush meadows and secluded countryside. The weather was perfect, the wildlife and summer flowers abundant. Our journey concluded at the Ferryman Inn on the banks of the river, before a taxi and two buses delivered us home.
Coastal Walk Around St Abbs Head, Scotland

This was a glorious and visually dramatic walk around the St Abbs Head coast. Four or five miles in length, combining steep climbs and descents, but rewarding you with some of the most striking and beautiful views a person could hope for.

First impression of our 2024 family cottage. On the absolute Northern tip of England. Spitting distance from the Scottish border. This is our home for the next week. We've got many plans. For overseas viewers, Northumberland is one of the largest, yet least populated regions of the country. Rugged, dramatic, and packed with historical relevance. We're looking forward to seeing a lot more.

Walking The Grand Union Canal. Day 4. Knowle to Gas Street Basin, Birmingham.
มุมมอง 883 หลายเดือนก่อน
After three days amidst mostly rural countryside I finally ventured into the heart of England's 2nd city. As the start of the video shows I was a bit battered and bruised, but this proved to be a memorable conclusion to an odyssey that began back in 2021. Three adventures. Nine days. an average of 15.22 miles completed per day as I covered the whole 137 miles of the canal. It was a walk through...
Walking The Grand Union Canal. Day 3. Warwick to Knowle.

Mercifully shorter than day two. Join me as I ascend the 21 flight Hatton Locks and discover a gem of a cafe at the summit. I then press on with the sun in the sky and the chilled ambience of the canals ecosystem radiating around me. Knowle turns out to be a lovely little town, whilst the Greswolde Arms Hotel proved to be a wonderful place to spend the night.
Walking The Grand Union Canal. Day 2. Daventry to Warwick.

Due to a spectacular miscalculation around the distance I needed to cover, this turned into a massive journey well over 20 miles in length. It was beautiful though. And often sunny. Join me on this trek through the heart of the countryside. And oh yeah, never ask me to estimate how long anything is going to take!! I'm a literal disaster. .

Day one of a four day hike. I start at the Blisworth Tunnel and end at the Braunston Tunnel. Glorious countryside, wildlife, and all the quirks that usually accompany a foray up the Grand Union. I hope you enjoy my wanderings.

No commentary, no captions. This city has its own voice and doesn't require mine. Join us as we visit the Shard, the tallest structure in the city. And from there we wander down the Thames over the course of several hours, stopping at a waterside brasserie, and then boarding an Uber boat for a trip back to London bridge. We pass the Globe Theatre, HMS Belfast, The Tate Modern, and the iconic Lo...

Splendid vlog and very useful. I liked that you gave details of your accommodation too. Your Day 2 seems like two days for me! The short view of your rucksack at the end of Day 1 shows a hefty pack. I try and keep to one on, one off when it comes to clothes and hope that a heated bathroom towel rail will come my way. I’m staying in London right now and I saw a sign on the GUC near Greenford that pointed to Birmingham and that got me thinking. Because it was very peaceful and beautiful. And that’s how I ended up here.

Massive respect for covering these distances. I’ve ridden up and down the Grand Union several times and know the route really well. It was really refreshing to see it at walking pace though and it’s made me appreciate even more how spectacular it is. I only ever seem to stop at pubs. I hope you recovered quickly. I felt for you and really understand how hard it is to contemplate bailing out on these missions. As you say, you’ve got unfinished business and I know you’ll fix that one day - I’ve been there several times myself. Well done on your monumental efforts and I look forward to seeing the next instalment.

I have recently purchased a mountain bike with the intention of cycling the canal network. Think I might spend a few quid on some really resilient tyres or use that bike slime stuff that you pump into the inner tube. Have you any experience of that? As an aside, I'm looking forward to watching many of your videos. Quite a selection to choose from!!

    • @duveleffe1701
      @duveleffe1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Robaylesbury I really enjoy cycling the canals, for all the same reasons you describe. They do pose their own unique challenges as you well know and these easily translate into cycling too. I've always used conventional tyres and tubes. I understand there's pros and cons with each. Perhaps check out some of the many 'tube vs tubeless' type videos on TH-cam - there's plenty of them. I simply prefer to stick with a system I understand and to mitigate punctures, I use Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. They're pretty bomb-proof. In tens of thousands of miles of cycling, I've only ever had one puncture - from a nail, probably dropped by a barge-ist. I always carry a couple of spare inner tubes and would replace rather than bother trying to repair a tube. Hope you like my videos. Always happy to answer any questions if you have any. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more of your adventures.
