I've been riding motorcycles since I was 14 and been lucky enough to have travelled all over the world.
I've hired bikes in the US many times plus Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia and I've taken my own bikes to most countries in Europe.
I'm no mechanic so don't expect videos on fixing things!
But with nearly 50 years of riding (I know, I don't look that old ;) I've got a few stories to tell and if my videos inspire just one person to get out there and ride or trave, then I'm a happy man.
Finally, I'm old school so expect straight talking and honest reviews of bikes, equipment and clothing.
Join me for the ride!

In my search for my next bike I test rode the Guzzi this Summer. I didn't intend on doing a review because I feel that people only want to hear good things... Please remember, this is just my view based on a short test ride. Everyone is different and owning one will allow you to give a better perspective than having one just for an hour.

2 yrs - 125 then 84K - Hats off !
I know - I thought the same! Two years on a 125cc only in Germany (by law) and then thousands of miles on the Yamaha! Top man.
It sounds a brilliant adventure. I've just turned 60 myself and it has highlighted the need to do these big trips while health is still with you. Good luck to both of you.
Thanks. I've been lucky in that I've done quite a few but this is a bigger for sure. Very exciting!
Natural story teller, keep the adventures going, looking forward to more content!
Great to see your channel back up Nick! And yes, life should always be an adventure... Good for you!
Thanks Simon
It's nice to hear the channel is still going and evolving. Personally, we love watching and making motorcycle travel and touring vids.
Thanks and good to hear from you :). I took a year off and it's time to get back at it! All the best
just got of these for a steal off vinted and I don't ride a bike!
Smart move. They are great looking jackets and oh so waterproof!
Thanks for the review! I got a killer deal: the Macna -> leather heated gloves, heated jacket and heated pants for 440 Euro!
Thanks Nick - appreciate you taking the time to write. And what a deal!! Enjoy
Its very frustrating when researching jacket reviews, don't give their height & size of jacket. Many of us overseas & cant try on jackets of different sizes. I did go thru the comments to find the jacket is a - Large & yes you did tell us your height & weight. Good review.
Thanks Derek - I appreciate your kind words. All the best
so did you get your new bike?
Thanks for asking - I'm waiting for a certain make and model to be launched this year! As soon as it's available I'll let everyone know. Cheers. Nick
That angle pocket is a map pocket
Yes I think it was put at that angle for that reason (so you can get the map out easily) but it's very small! Cheers
Great review
Thank you
Just got Halcyon Grey, first time I pulled too hard on the right arm and pulled a shoulder muscle. Next time I'll be better at it.
They are beautiful bikes for sure. Hope your shoulder is ok. Cheers. Nick
It's just one cylinder?
The website says single cylinder. It's not my bike - I've always been a Triumph Bonneville man (back in the day) so prefer twin cylinder motorcycles. Cheers
rubbish helmet so noisy i got rid of it ... pos.... ARAI is the only brand worth buying
I'm actually a big Shoei fan but this one is noisy above 50mph for sure. You definitely need ear plugs!
What part of the glove has the heat elements. Top bottom fingers thumb? Thanks
It's been so mild that I haven't worn them for a while. I can't recall where the elements are and a look at the Macna website doesn't help either! All I can say is that they are really comfortable and definitely keep your hands warm. If you are winter riding I'd get a pair for sure. Cheers
6 minutes in to actually see the helmet.
Thank you very much for this video. I rode a very big bike with 160 hp and all I ever saw all the time, were the few meters road in front of me. I changed to a big enduro and it was getting better a little bit. Now I am ready for the next step I think : Royal Enfield 350 Classic. You gave me the confirmation. Thank you. Cheers and greetings from Germany.
Thank you for your kind words. I am sure you will love the Enfield and really appreciate the slower pace and feeling a part of something rather that just rushing so fast everywhere. Best wishes. Nick
HI BUDDY I BOUGHT IT 5 DAYS BEFOE , HOW MUCH MILEAGE ITS GIVE FOR 1 LITRE ?.
Hey there, I'm so sorry I can't help you with this one. Except to say that you get a lot of smiles per litre! Enjoy
I am planning to get this as my first bike..This exact colour is my favourite it looks amazing. Seems to be heavy as a first bike,i hope thats not an issue.. Great video!!
Many thanks and I'm sure you are going to love the bike! Best colour ;)
Having just caught up with this glamster review i was wondering how you got on putting speakers in the recess in the helmet. Having tried one on recently there didn't seem much room. Cheers
Good question! All I can say is that I wear glasses and ear plugs when riding and both are not an issue with this helmet. Inside there are resesses either side so I think there would be room for speakers. Additionally, I belive that you can get different sized linings - speak with Motolegends or Urban rider to check that.
Better. Superior. Awsome. Me and my brother got one each. Brilliant. Goes along side my A7 and Lightening. Amongst other modern bikes.
I have the same jacket and use it occasionally for rides. My biggest worry though is the very light/small armour and the lack of evidence that the fabric will endure a crash.
I had a quick look at the Motolegends website and they list it as AA armour. To be fair it's something I didn't consider - I just bought it on the looks! My biggest "moan" is that it doesn't breathe and is just too hot for me when it's sunny and above 25 or 26c. Luckily living in the UK this isn't a major problem! Cheers
😀👍
Thanks for the review. I didn’t like the price much but having looked at literally hundreds of jackets, I think this one is worth the investment. I’m enjoying your channel and I like your proper reviews (as in: you actually use the gear) and I hope you do some more gear reviews. Anyway, I subscribed today. Have fun. Cheers👍
Hi and thanks for your kind words. Both the Belstaff jacket and the Shoei Glamster helmet are great! I've not been very active this year since my brother passed away - I just lost the drive to do anything really. But with time and your kind words along with what many others have said has helped me get through this and I plan to do more next year. Best wishes. Nick
@@thesussexrider I’m very sorry to hear that your brother has passed away. Especially at this time of year. I hope you have friends and family that you are able to speak to. Its a tough time for you. I wish you the strength to get through this.
How does the power supply work? Im interested to buy the gloves but how do they get the power? Where do the cables lead to?
Macna offer different styles and battery options. Because I had the jacket I bought the gloves which attach to the jacket and then the battery is in my pocket. I like this because when I'm off the bike and walking around (like at a freezing cold Christmas market) then I can unplug the gloves and just plug in the jacket to keep my core warm. The alternative is to attach the cables direct to the battery in the motorcycle (very easy job) and then plug in the jacket. The gloves then connect to the jacket. If you want the gloves only then I would go for the Macna ones that hold the small batteries on the back of the gloves. Otherwise you have to feed the cable from the battery up through your jacket and down your sleeves. My son did this for two winter seasons with a pair of Richi heated gloves and he was OK with it. Not sure where you are based but the guys at Motolegends near Guildford are really helpful if you need advice. Cheers
Bought new .. love mine .
I heard BSA still make mid level telescopic sights for rifles plus they were making bikes in Nigeria with Yamaha engines but probably not for export? I'm 'old school' and had real Royal Enfield's, 1965 Continental GT, Crusaders, etc.
I didn't know that about them still making telescopic sights - that's cool if it's for real. Plus the Yamaha engines in Nigeria. I'll try and find out through my network. Post a pic of your old RE bikes - people would love to see them. Cheers
Thanks for this! Thinking of getting the Foton 2.0 Macnas for winter riding in Poland. This review helped a lot! 🎉
Glad it was helpful! They really make a difference! Cheers
Great stories. Looking forward to seeing more of your trips - I need more ideas of local places to take my bike.
Thank you for saying so - it's really much appreciated. Cheers. Nick
Little gem….She did well on her way home Nick, it’s me who should’ve brought warmer clothes 😂
Great to hear that. She's got a lovely engine and it should last for many years. Should have taken me up on having an old sweatshirt lol. Enjoy my friend.
I did regret not taking your kind/wise offer 😅
Keep your videos coming, your stories are an inspiration. 🤙
@@vogahl34 I agree 👍
It would be better if it had a Suzuki 650 Savage motorcycle engine in it.Much better looking motor. The Old Rotax Matchless repo was much better than the so called BSA.
that is one snazzy fuel tank
Sure is. Cheers
It's a pretty bike, not very practical but I could see where someone may enjoy washing and polishing all the chrome then standing back & admiring the shinny thing. For the money, I'd go with the Moto Guzzi V7 though. You'd get two cylinders a truly air cooled engine more horsepower and torque, 4 piston front caliper 2 piston rear (vs the bsa 2/1 setup, a 21 liter fuel tank (vs 12) for day long range, shaft final drive, 6 speed transmission, a comfortable molded seat, tubeless tires - a true mile muncher when a windscreen and a tail bag are added + a blast to push in mountains. Hand built in Mandela Delario along beautiful Lake Como in Italy where you are cordially invited to visit annually.
I know exactly what you men. I recently bought a V7II to ride to work on but it is just too much fun just for daily duties & now gets ridden everywhere... Which is why I can see a Gold Star in my future. I already love the engine (I had an F650 BMW a while back) & it would be perfect for the ride up the hill to the office, which would leave the Guzzi for weekend blasts through the hills. Win/win!
Well done for thinking “ inside “ the box …sensible , practical , and unemotional !
I think you can get three connected batteries into each glove. 12 v. Each glove has three compartments...
I have a battery around 3 inches by 2 inches which can power the jacket or gloves when you are not connected to the bike. It's too large to fit in the glove itself but I know you can get smaller ones that do. Cheers
Thanks for the review...I appreciate the information and opinion.
That's David. Appreciate you taking the time to say that. All the best. Nick
Beautiful bike mate. I’m currently trying to sell my Honda transalp 650 so I can buy one. Sports injuries means my off road days are over so I’m after one of these to keep me on 2 wheels. 😊
Thanks and much appreciated. I've just put it up for sale on ebay if you are interested. My Duputrens Contracture /arthritis is getting worse and I can only manage am hour on the road now so sadly it has to go. I'm gutted but I need to go for an automatic or maybe something with a slipper clutch. Thanks again
@@thesussexrider I’m financially stuck I’m afraid until the Hondas gone But thanks I’ll check it out
Just seen your 350 on eBay ….that’s such a shame buddy …arthritis is a bastard …I have in elbows . Hope you keep riding and look forward to new videos on a automatic 🤞
Thanks my friend. Yep - that's me done with clutches which is a crying shame but there you go. I saw honda have developed an eclutch or something - I wonder if they've thought about the world's aging population! Anyway I'm now on the search for an automatic as you say or possibly a bike with a quick-shifter. Appreciate your taking the time to comment and hope your elbows don't cause you to much pain. Cheers
Damn how did I not know about these versions. That year I bought mine
Pure luck for me as I only found out a few days before the sales went live! Any Interceptor is great though - enjoy
How are you getting on with the Shoei?
Good question and I should have given an update! It's a quality helmet and it has the looks but it is noisy. I wear "made to measure" ear plugs so it's not a major problem. When I tried it without them then anything above 45/50 mph was a problem for me. It makes sense anyway to protect your ears so I do! If and when I get another bike I might try the new Shoei flip lid. Hope this helps. Cheers
@thesussexrider Probably because you didn't put in the chin guard which is pretty essential for wind noise reduction.
Can you share the link for round clock?
Do you mean the Beeline navigation device? Here it is beeline.co/
Watching it from India 🇮🇳 Here BSA is the no1 cycle manufacturers thier cycles are real charm. but Bike still not Launched here😢
That's interesting! Thanks for letting me know! Best wishes. Nick
Does it take a standard pinlock? I'd like the photochromic pinlock. I ordered this in black and Grey. How you like the smoked visor?
This is the first time I've used a smoked visor and I really like it. Really reduces the glare from the sun and of course it looks great! The pinlock came with it and it looks like the usual high end that you'd expect from Shoei. I've not fitted it yet and had no fogging issues but I will before winter arrives. Black and grey will look very smart! Enjoy!
@@thesussexrider did u get the dark smoke or light smoke?
Pretty sure it's the lighter one
Bloody Sore Arse..... had 2 BSAs back in the day and am considering getting one of these, just for old times sake.
Let us know if you do
Wow! Didn't know BSA was still in business with motorbikes! I owned a BSA 175cc Bantam back in 1970-71. Rode it all over Gloucestershire back then.
My brother had a 175 Bantam also! Sadly his broke down all the time! You must have same great stories from back then!
BSA went broke in the 1970's. They just bought the name and trademark rights.
I didn't know either until I saw a picture on Facebook of my brother on his. He hadn't even told me he was buying yet another bike
Why is Royal Enfield so popular in the U.K.? Is it because they offer a good quality for that price and that too below 5.000 € or is it because it’s a British legacy bike? In Germany I don’t see it. Can someone please explain it to me?
It's a good question and probably has lots of answers. As an older man (I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years - I know I don't look so old ;) I rode bikes like 650 and 750 Triumph Bonnevilles plus air-cooled BMW Boxers and Moto-Guzzi. Then suddenly bikes seemed to change shape and have loads of technology! And the prices went up and up! My last BMW R1200GS with extras was nearly EUR 20,000! As I've got older I appreciate the older looking bikes and the relaxed way of riding. Add to that there seems to be either a traffic jam or a speed camera everywhere and it just makes sense to ride a smaller, lighter, cheaper and cool looking bike. My son would prefer a KTM or BMW M1000 of course! Whatever you ride - enjoy it :)
@@thesussexrider Well, to begin with let me add - A man is as young as he thinks he is. You are young 😎 So, as to what I have understood from your answer, I will summarise it as follows: 1. The bike is very appealing in later age, because: a. RE maintains simplicity for use. b. With the overload of technology, RE provides a nostalgia of days bygone and the sweet memories with its candour. c. Charm is in enjoying ride, by being in the moment, rather than chasing adrenaline. That’s why I see a lot of responses from people in later age in the comments section. 2. The Price/Quality ratio is high, as well as maintenance is cheaper.
You summed it up nicely (and my age lol)
we have all done exactly the same as yourself and arrived at this point.. when i was in my early 30's we all went in a group to le-mans.. rode like absolute fools 90+ most of the way..or a lot more.. it was soo stressfull... i just plod the kent lanes now for fun.. anyone up my butt i just wave them past.. and you know what...its so much more of a satisfying ride.. we are on a 300 scooter at the minute .. but the small wheels and pot holes roads are rattling our teeth out... one of these classics might just be the ticket.. .. or maybee a scram..?
Love this - thanks for sharing. It really is so much more satisfying. There's been a real awakening to this style of riding lately! The Scram gets good reviews for sure. Then there's the new Himalayan coming out. I guess it's down to what you think looks right for you and what type of riding you plan to do. Cheers

Hi, Great video, could you please tell me what size was the jacket you demonstrated on your video?
Thanks for your kind words. I'm 5ft 8in tall and just over 12 stone. I normally wear medium but was advised by Motolegends near Guildford to go for a large and it fits perfectly. I wear this all the time and last year on a trip to Ireland it kept me dry despite terrible weather! It does get hot in summer but I have no regrets in buying it. Best wishes. Nick
You didn't mention the little rock back and forwards to get it off the centre stand !!
Coming soon - a video as to how to get your bike off the centre stand! Actually when I had my GS i could ride it off the centre stand so maybe I should try with this!
