Interstitial - Dungeon synth ambient doom jam #36
Daw-less hardware synth jam with mostly analog (or analog emulated) synth gear recoded live. Each jam I use different combinations of gear (and sometimes guitar) to compose and improvise a song in a single evening, often with the help of my cat Edgar.
In this jam (in Dm/Am) I am using midi routing with three synths to generate interesting and evolving tonalities that move between melody and base tones. The Keystep 37 is controlling both the Artura Microfreak and the Volca Fm 2 via the small midi-thu5 box. I have the Volca FM 2 sends midi information to the Moog Grandmother - this isn't midi through, which means I'm not sending midi to the Grandmother when playing the Keystep, however when I record midi to the FM 2's sequencer and it is set to playback, it will send midi information to both the Grandmother and the VM 2. I could also have used the Keystep 37 to send midi information to the Microfreak and record this to the Microfreak's sequencer, operating 3 separate and overlapping sequencers, but I didn't do this in this video. In the next few videos I'll experiment with midi routing and simultaneous independent sequences. I'm using the Microfreak's scan grains setting with a frozen strings Cello sample created from spitfire lab's sample library. For guitar I'm trying a minimalist melody that moves from D minor to A minor (giving a Dorian flavor with the b natural!)
