I had both the GC and later a PS2. Really liked both consoles but the controls always seemed to be easier on GC and there was some exclusives that were a ton of fun.

the best Gameboy game of all time the challenges always keeps the player on their toes with every 4 levels giving the player a break from the puzzle stages and more of the classic Donkey Kong arcade style I must say DK94 is one of the most underrated Nintendo games I've played.

By far my favorite console of all time.

The wii u was also a flop but but it's beloved now

N64 was severely limited by it's cartridge format, which is why PlayStation was able to wipe the floor with them. Textures for N64 were flat shaded whenever possible, whereas PlayStation could have a robust texture library on disc and cut scenes, and sound etc. Even with N64 additional capability, they really missed the mark using cartridge.

It has what is still my favorite (and imo, one of the best) racing games ever, F-Zero GX. Punishingly difficult, but so satisfying to complete and rewards you every step of the way.

I had all three and the GC was my favorite followed by XBOX. With that being said, the ONLY reason I got one was because of the Resident Evil deal. I had to love it because I traded my PS2 for it since I was a HUGE Resident Evil fan. Without that deal, I would have never bought it and grown to love it.

the TB16 had that arcade feel, and that's what moved us to own them back in the 90's

It's crazy how many people think that the Genesis came out at the same time as Sonic The Hedgehog.

The GameCube was definitely not a flop we all had one because they were affordable and had awesome games your off your rocker

I was able to get one of these broken, I have it recognized by the system now at least, but it still fails to read non audio CD discs. Hoping replacing the transport will fix my issues, it made some pretty nasty noises at some point.

Don't forget if you have an HD adapter, all Gamecube games are 480p HD, which looked much better than most PS2 and OG XBox games. F-Zero GX should be mentioned. It's probably the most perfect iteration of that game and Nintendo hasn't even yet attempted to top it.

Us as kids definitely enjoyed our GameCube but i get it. A ps2 woulda been so much more

Graphically, Gamecube still holds up. Rogue Squadron 2 was insane.

Because in hindsight everything is 20/20. However, I revered my GameCube and was an “apostle “ during its active lifespan.

I don't know, man. Getting the gamecube meant we were exposed to a completely different strata of games. Most things of value don't necessarily get a cult following. And when things do sell like hotcakes... well... Let's look at the state of the game industry in 2024. The irony is that the best console to get is probably... you guessed it. The Steam Deck...

I mean, globally, it basically performed equally to the original Xbox. They just both got crushed by the affordable DVD player. And retroactively, people can easily ignore any of the bad/forgettable games. The GameCube's top-tier stuff was truly excellent. Nintendo's stuff already feels very distinct from the best games on competing consoles, and the GameCube was especially bold and experimental in many regards, so the GameCube's library is extremely memorable.

I remember this time, but all my friends wanted to borrow my GC for certain games. Also ps, ps2 and xbox seemed easier to buy 2nd hand than the GC. In my experience anyway. The DVD player and small Disc was the problem

The GameCube controller is still one of the best controllers to play with to this day, especially for Smash. That's why Nintendo still makes adapters for them.

I regret selling my day 1 Jaguar console to come up with the money for my day 1 Sega Saturn. Which I then sold for my day 1 Dreamcast. 🤷🤷 Which I then sold for my OG Xbox just 1 year after release. Should've kept them all. Still have the OGXB.

I can emulate anything it does better these days. I have a $700 custom hardmodded OG xbox though just because you can't emulate it outside a select few games making me need one by default just to play games like Doom 3 and Doom 3 ROE's console port and both Mechassault games which now work online again with xbox live/insignia.

I think the reason the GameCube was a commercial flop was because it lacked the broad appeal of the PS2. It's a decent console if you're a fan of Nintendo but otherwise it has little to offer

geez this takes me back. Was 14 when I owned one. Some other game mentions: R-Type and Legendary Axe.

The way I look at it. The GameCube had everything to succeed. It had the games. It had the power (it was more powerful than a PS2) but they failed to show that with poor marketing. Like the GameCube commercials were just so weird and honestly still just kinda haunt me to this day. Plus the GameCube felt weaker than the PS2 as it didn’t use an actual CD. So the games ended up being smaller scale or had more limitations than the PS2s version of the same games.

a Flop... sure ok. Only reason I bought an XBOX was for HALO. Sold my GameCube right before Wii came out and they went to $10

I had one specifically for splatter house. Was awesome. Just wish it had more variety. Was mainly shooters. Cool little system.
