From Idea to PCB - Learn-to-solder badge
มุมมอง 190หลายเดือนก่อน
At our local makerspace we had an open house recently. I'd always wanted to have a simple learn-to-solder kind of badge for folks to try to put together. Usually I run out of time, but this time I somehow managed to get my stuff in order to make it happen. Thanks to @PCBWay I was able to get some folks to use a soldering iron for the first time with these simple PCBs. Check them out for your PC...

C16 SaRuMan-TED 64K Upgrade Testing🔧 For RetroCombs
มุมมอง 3342 หลายเดือนก่อน
@retroCombs asked if I could check out his SaRuMan 64K upgrade module. I got my dusty & neglected yet to be restored C16 out of the pile and onto the bench to give it a test for him. Of course this also brought to light the sad shape of my own C16. This is a very non-elegant round of chip swapping madness. The state of my own C16 remains questionable but in the end I think we can feel fairly co...

I love the Jolt cola graphic on the back .🔥🔥
Same. That was a blast from the past for me!
This is a sci-fi stellar project box!! Endless creativity and so fitting for the DC32!! 🤖 Fantastic video, thanks so much!
Always love seeing the unboxing and exploring of projects.
So glad you get to finally experience DefCon! I’m definitely gonna go check out those exclusive Defcon kits! 👾
@@DarkAngelVNV thank you! Make sure to say hey!
Looks like a fun box. I like how the boards connect together.
It is for sure. Yeah the whole sao aspect is pretty darn neat.
Thank you Jamie for another great Hack shack video! I am new to soldering and watching your videos and following along with the hackerboxes has been an awesome learning experience! A buddy of mine has expressed interest in learning how to solder it wold be fun to put this box together. Thank you and the Hackerbox team for putting these giveaways together. You guys are great. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@paulfulton4989 Thanks so much for watching! Get that friend soldering before they change their mind! Good luck!
Look who got all fancy with special effects and branding at the beginning of the video. Nice. Another fun Hakerbox!
@@retroCombsI wish it tracked a little better but perfect is the enemy of done and it was becoming a time sink. There's some masking a little later too. 😂 Thanks for watching!
Wish I could have made it to DefCon this year. Next year then!
That is the spirit! I've been wanting to go since I first heard about it way back when but knew I'd not be l33t enough and would have major imposter syndrome. I'm happy to be able to finally cross this off my bucket list. Maybe I'll even get to go more than once. :D Thanks for watching!
I can't find an 8gb microsd card to save my life these days😂.
This box is awesome. I love the nostalgia in this one. 🤙🏾
Great vid... this is a cool box. ❤#BadgeLife
Thank you so much! And I agree on the box. Love these full color pcbs peeps are making.
Excellent and fun!! Thanks for sharing
and thank you for watching!
Another cool kit and review!
Hey Eric! Thanks for watching and commenting sir!
I really need to up my soldering game, which is to say I have no soldering game, so anything would be a step up. Enjoyed the video, including the mistakes. Appreciate the gotchas as well; would not have thought to break in the mating connectors to avoid ripping them off the board.
Yeah those sao connections can benefit from a little pre-use break-in for sure! Warm up that iron and find something to practice on. The more you do it the easier it gets and the better you get! Thanks for watching!
I liked this project. I put some "Spaghetti" on the long LED leads just to protect them from shorting.
@@jayare3167 that's a great idea!
Back again to remind people Jaime's Hackshak is the place to get hackerbox build videos! nothing better on youtube like it. (Fingers crossed to win Finances force me to put my sub on hold)
Thanks so much for the support! Maybe on the 19th the random picker will pick you!
See you at DEFCON!
🤘
Cool little badge.
I can't wait to see what people come up with for full color circuit boards. Pretty awesome.
For sure, they do look really cool!
I wasn't really all that hyped to build this one, but then the ESPs ended up making it a very interesting/educational project. Can hardly wait to see what's in the next one!
For sure, I want to dig into that ESPNOW protocol/system and see how that works when I get some spare cycles. That was kinda neat.
holy crap, I wanted to get one of those HBC56 kits when Troy showed them off, just hadn't gotten around to it. see HB still has a few left, hmmmm.
I still have some on Tindie too. Can't post a link here though.
@@TroySchrapel yeah I just noticed that. Got the Hackerbox one, and am currently putting it together (hopefully one of my keyboards has a PS/2 mode, lol) I might even get one from you later, just to make a nicer job of soldering that microSD slot. I got it though! my GOD that part was hard.... I've never used Flux before and now I understand why y'all say to use it. It's amazing even in pen form.
This kit has won. It has broken me. SD card mount fell off while I was fighting with the video circut resistors, because it either wouldn't stick, or bridge. I have no idea why the solder does this, but if ANYTHING in here is connected properly I'd be shocked. I've managed to put pins on my arduinos, and re-solder a thing or two but this is just too damn much. Ohwell.
@@DFX2KX If you're willing to persist, I'm happy to send you a new PCB with the SDCard connector pre-soldered for the price of postage only. Unfortunately, I'm in Australia, so that would be ~$15USD. If you need any of the other parts (resistors, etc.) that might need replacing, I can throw those in too.
@@TroySchrapel Yeah I did get it to stick again, partially.... But ultimately lost the war when it came to the 2N4401 for the keyboard. My eyes and tiny parts, man. Thanks for the offer, but I'll pay regular rate when I can get to it. Not your fault my eyes aren't great. That risk was calculated, :P It is smaller than it looks... I ended up jumping on it as a project in between packing sessions. After I get settled from the move, I'll order a complete one from ya (those caps and that transistor are freaking tiny as well) and I'll use this board as *de* soldering practice. I suspect I wouldn't have had nearly as many issues if I had gotten whatever Gel flux is being used here. And one of those magnifier/helping-hands combos. That too.
These boxes are fun. I'll probably start getting them after I move, would be great practice to alleviate my horrible Solder skills.
They are fun for sure! Hey, the more you solder, the better you get. Just take your time and don't get frustrated if it's not going your way. Take a step back and revisit after break.
@@JamiesHackShack The trick being to get myself to actually *sit still* long enough to do it. I watch these videos on the treadmill, and every time I'm not cleaning, working, or working out, I feel like I'm being unproductive. Having a Temu soldering iron with questionable temperature control probabbly doesn't help me either, lol.
@@DFX2KX Hey! Your comment was the one snagged by the random comment picker. If you want to drop an email to jamieshackshack@gmail.com I'll send you a phrase to reply back to here for verification of the account matching. Go ahead and send your mailing address to/in the same email if you want. Thx!
@JamiesHackShack The Tacos were Delicious
@@DFX2KX thx!
I haven't seen a jolt cola in so very long. Same thing with Bawls. I loved that one.
I thought Jolt was gone but evidently you can still get it at dollar general! Now Bawls, I've mail ordered that direct and gotten cases from micro center. :-D
@JamiesHackShack being in Hawaii, neither store is an option. Hopefully, they will open up a Microcenter someday. I call it the paradise tax. Damn near, everything costs more here, and we can't buy batteries in bulk. I can't even order batteries for my projects through Amazon. I've been putting my own packs together with recycled cells. 😂😮💨 At least that part has been fun. I got a battery tab welder, too. I might just do a short on that, but we'll see.
@@TheGeekiestGuy yeah, but Hawaii! Wow! Awesome on hacking together your own packs. 🤘👍
@JamiesHackShack thanks bud. If you ever want a hula girl for your dashboard or something, just reach out. I use the same name on literally everything. Maybe I can send a pineapple 🍍 too. 🤙🏾 Ooh, I live about 15 minutes from an active volcano, so if you ever come to the big island, hit me up. Take you on a tour.

You got it! Thanks for watching & commenting.
Sick video, as always!❤
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Thank you for a great video I bought one from Adwater & Stir , can’t wait to find time to built it
@@botialoach1 You are most welcome. I bet you'll enjoy it! Thanks for watching.
Jamie if you're interested in quirky ZX81 games you should check out a game called "Merchant of Venus" by Crystal software. I think Crystal had gotten the idea from "Elite" on the BBC micro and tried a similar theme set on a single planet. The player would have to pilot his "lander" over the landscape to various trading posts and mining instalations to conduct business. This was easier said than done as it was VERY hard to land at destination without (A) crashing or (B) landing so hard that your ship was effectively wrecked. The graphics weren't hi res but they were lovingly crafted and if it wasn't for the difficulty curve in piloting the ship, it would be a pretty compelling game...
Hey thanks for watching and commenting. I will put that on my list of things to try next time I get the ZX81 out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Fun and informative convo! Thanks, guys. Looking forward to some post video coverage of the event!
Hey thanks for checking it out! I hope to have some good stuff to share about my experiences there later this summer.
Hopefully I can still get in on the giveaway
Oh yeah you're in, not going to run the picker until this evening eastern time!

Thank you 🤗
These boxes look awesome going to have to get a few. Wish the would do a restock on some that I seen.
Thanks for watching. Keep an eye out. Every once and a while a previously out of stock one may come back in stock. Never hurts to email and ask. Maybe they'd make a deal with you if there was a portion of the box still available .

Hey thanks. I'm sorry I don't. Are they currently coded to any certain manufacturer? It may be out there somewhere or setup a way to try to brute force it. 😂
