As I always say, if you've not already, go check out my awesome neighbor-in-retro, @retroCombs ! He's got good stuff!
If you have actually read this far down and would like a HackShack sticker, figure out a way to get in touch with me and I'll see what I can do to get one to you! :-D
Music: @WhiteBatAudio Thanks for the tunes!
I said 3/8s instead of 1/8s again! 😂
I know you really meant 3.5mm ;)
@@TroySchrapel the three was trying to surface! That's it! 😂
This box is awesome. I love the nostalgia in this one. 🤙🏾
Awesome job, Jamie. My first time seeing "what's in the box". 😎
Thanks! Let the record show I may have not been recording the first time I opened the box. It was packed a little better and in packaging when originally from hackerboxes. 😂 Thanks for sharing your project with the world!
Love the bling!
Sure is shiny! 😂 Thanks for watching.
Great video, Jamie. I built this one too and had a lot of fun. I wasn't crazy about the flux pen they included though, the one in my kit would barely dispense any flux until you jammed it down super-hard, at which point it would dispense *all* the flux, flooding the entire board. I've got other flux pens that I use regularly and never had this kind of issue with them... so could just be a one-off lemon.
You made the microSD slot look a lot easier than it was for me. I was afraid that if I tried drag-soldering I would get bridges to the housing, shorting it out... so I took it way slower under a microscope. I should have just done what you did.
Re: re-formatting the card. I had to do the same thing, but I had to even recreate the partition table. When I only reformatted the partition it worked better, yet still had some issues. Recreating the partition table and the partion made it work 100%.
Glad to see Troy added a command to load the directory! That had me scratching my head too. :)
Yeah, that flux pen was cursed
Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting. Sorry the flux pen wasn't great for you. I just got lucky on my sdcard dragging probably. Interesting on the partition thing with the SD. I need to play around and see if this one acts weird. Maybe I'll need to do that too.
These boxes look awesome going to have to get a few. Wish the would do a restock on some that I seen.
Thanks for watching. Keep an eye out. Every once and a while a previously out of stock one may come back in stock. Never hurts to email and ask. Maybe they'd make a deal with you if there was a portion of the box still available .
Great video, as always🎉
Thank you 🤗
I love all the retro flavor stuff hackerboxes does. So much fun!
Same here. Hopefully we don't scare away the kids! Thanks for watching.
You’re doing it bro! Keep it up ❤
Thanks for the kind words and watching!
Another great video and hacket box kit! Always fun to build something and see it work great! Thanks for sharing
RUDY! Thanks for watching! 100% on seeing it work! I'm not always that lucky!
Good stuff as usual…thanks
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Hey! You are the next potential pick for getting the free 0103 box. Can you email me at jamieshackshack@gmail.com and I'll give you a keyword to reply here with to verify you. Thx and congrats!
Cold solder joints make me sad
@@klewisjohnson perfect. Thx!
WOOT! Cool project!
Hey Eric! Thanks for watching man!
This looks like a lot of fun.. : D
For sure. Thanks for watching!
This kit looks great, Im using rp2040 for my Engineer degree, maybe I should try to build a homebrew system as a side projecct
Right on. If you are on the 2040 path you may also want to check out the bluescsi and picogus projects. There may be some helpful stuff to see from looking at their code. Thanks for watching!
This is a pretty cool one. 👍
Yup! Thanks for watching!
Nice, Use to get these but had to stop for a bit. Hope to resume again soon
I hear ya. Maybe this comment will get this one sent to you for free! Thanks for watching.
Hey you are the winner! email jamieshackshack@gmail.com and ill send back an auth phrase you reply to this message with and where you want it mailed and we'll get it on the way to you. Thanks!!
Hey replying again to hopefully let a notification hit you. Email me at jamieshackshack@gmail.com so we can get the ball rolling on getting your Hackerbox to you. Thanks!
Hey if I don't get some kind of response from you in a day or so I'm going to probably pick another comment for the Hackerbox. I'm sorry. :-/
Hey as of today 7/10/2024 I've not seen a reply in this comment thread or to the email address. I'm really sorry but if I don't hear from you by Friday July 12th I'll be selecting another commenter on that day. 😕
I did not remember NES controllers being that small, uncomfortable and digging into your palms yes but not that small.
I guess we got bigger and they stayed the same! Thanks for watching! Maybe I need to verify the dimensions. 😂
I can't find an 8gb microsd card to save my life these days😂.
holy crap, I wanted to get one of those HBC56 kits when Troy showed them off, just hadn't gotten around to it. see HB still has a few left, hmmmm.
I still have some on Tindie too. Can't post a link here though.
@@TroySchrapel yeah I just noticed that. Got the Hackerbox one, and am currently putting it together (hopefully one of my keyboards has a PS/2 mode, lol) I might even get one from you later, just to make a nicer job of soldering that microSD slot. I got it though! my GOD that part was hard.... I've never used Flux before and now I understand why y'all say to use it. It's amazing even in pen form.
This kit has won. It has broken me. SD card mount fell off while I was fighting with the video circut resistors, because it either wouldn't stick, or bridge. I have no idea why the solder does this, but if ANYTHING in here is connected properly I'd be shocked. I've managed to put pins on my arduinos, and re-solder a thing or two but this is just too damn much.
Ohwell.
@@DFX2KX If you're willing to persist, I'm happy to send you a new PCB with the SDCard connector pre-soldered for the price of postage only. Unfortunately, I'm in Australia, so that would be ~$15USD. If you need any of the other parts (resistors, etc.) that might need replacing, I can throw those in too.
@@TroySchrapel Yeah I did get it to stick again, partially.... But ultimately lost the war when it came to the 2N4401 for the keyboard. My eyes and tiny parts, man.
Thanks for the offer, but I'll pay regular rate when I can get to it. Not your fault my eyes aren't great. That risk was calculated, :P It is smaller than it looks...
I ended up jumping on it as a project in between packing sessions. After I get settled from the move, I'll order a complete one from ya (those caps and that transistor are freaking tiny as well) and I'll use this board as *de* soldering practice.
I suspect I wouldn't have had nearly as many issues if I had gotten whatever Gel flux is being used here. And one of those magnifier/helping-hands combos. That too.
Hopefully I can still get in on the giveaway
Oh yeah you're in, not going to run the picker until this evening eastern time!
Um, okay!
