My Carolina Garden
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 มี.ค. 2023
My name is Nicole Roggeman. I have two major passions in lilfe; one is creating artwork on canvases, while the other is creating art in my landscape. Working in my yard and flower gardens is hard on the body at times, but eases my soul like nothing else.
This channel is dedicated to growing plants and flowers, with a strong focus on my residential greenhouse in Southeastern North Carolina, as well as beautifying my little piece of Earth.

Seed experiment | Slicing root balls with my Hori Hori knife in My Carolina Garden
There's a special plant I really want to grow, so I'm doing a seed experiment to see what will work best. I'm also slicing root balls with my Hori Hori knife in My Carolina Garden. That's right. Taking a big pot arrangement apart, and I'm getting to use my knife, which was a Christmas gift, for the first time!!
The special plant is a Green Twister Echinacea. I love it so much and would love to have lots of it in my garden!! Some of the plants I'm dividing up are the Croton, Asparagus Fern, and Heliconia. Awesome new plant addition to my tropical plant collection!!
This video sort of falls into my series called "Greenhouse Chats" - where we're talking about all things gardening throughout the winter. I hope you enjoy it!
My name is Nicole Roggeman, and I garden in Southeastern North Carolina in Zone 8B. I am able to work in My Carolina Garden pretty much all year, as my ground does not freeze. I propagate some plants indoors, and I store and grow things in my green house during colder months.
I am obsessed with gardening and improving my landscape, and all of the budget gardening ideas on how I'm saving money in the garden this season will be used by me!!

It's definitely great for the mind 👍 For the body it feels good, you build up muscles 💪🏼 but if you work there very long and move heavy containers you can fell your back 😂
Pruning is my favourite workout ... the stretches and the pulls ... ah!

Gardening is when I get a dose of infrared light and vitamin D. Our winter veggies are generous. Seeds are buried and ready to sprout. Ready for spring. Zone 9. Praised God for all the gifts of nature. Let’s grow ❤️❤️❤️
I love this so much! Wishing you a garden full of abundance in 2025! 🌱❤️

Absolutely! Gardening is incredibly rewarding for so many reasons. Gardening saved me as I was going through a hard time in my life. Slowly it became my hobby and passion. Lovely video 💚 Happy Gardening 🌻🌻🌻
@@dianesgardeninspiration Thank you for sharing this ❤️ It's truly awesome how gardening can lift us up and get us through tough times. I'm so glad it did that for you, too. Happy gardening! 💚🌱
I asked for a compost bin probably 20 years ago. I even picked it. But it was a bad design. Now that I know more about what to look for I can better decide what to get.
@whiterose1972 good for you. It feels good to get that ball rolling, and collecting food scraps for example, knowing it'll better your garden 😊
I love it all, gardening is wonderful therapy all round 😊❤
Absolutely!! 🌱❤️
Greetings from KC 😀 Great video. I love outdoor gardening. My yard is small, I like to compare gardening, landscaping to a blank canvas and an artist painting a lovely picture. I also have many houseplants I can enjoy during the long winter months, I love growing, nurturing, watching plants change. Best wishes for 2025!
Thank you so much for sharing a bit about yourself and how nurturing your plants affects you so positively. I love to hear it! ❤️ Best wishes to you for an amazing 2025 as well!
I absolutely love the peace and happiness I feel when I’m gardening! I had a stroke 2020 and my garden helped me recover faster! God is the best artist! Seeing the insects, butterflies, my seeds sprouting so beautiful ❤️❤️!
@thejohnsonsnaturalliving1549 thank you for sharing your personal story! ❤️ I love hearing how your garden helped your recovery. So amazing! Seeing all the little miracles of life can't help but transform us 🌱💚

@kathysinclair3011 I love that. Like-minded individuals coming together through our love of plants 💚
Working in the gardens is great for your body and your soul . Also to get out in the Sun and get some vitamin D that's so crucial for your body I think that's what makes people feel really good . 9:25
I absolutely agree!
Loved the video. Such a good reminder of why gardening is so good for us. I absolutely love all aspects of working in my garden. I’m going to be 72 years old in a couple of months and I still do most of the work myself . It’s so rewarding to see my work payoff with beautiful flowers! Thanks Nicole
I couldn't agree with you more. It's a labor of love that is incredibly rewarding in so many ways. Kudos to you for continuing to do so much work yourself. I love it. 💚

Love the peace of gardening too! It’s just so peaceful.
I fully agree with you! 💚
Everything you said so true! I like to get through the winter winter sowing , propagating, and starting plants inside.
Anything we can do to feel closer to our plants or gardens in winter, right? Awesome, glad this video resonated with you! 💚
Hi Nicole 🌺. Cool video and I enjoy planting and working in my garden because Jesus gave us this treasure and I dedicate every beautiful flower to him and our mother Mary .Have a great day .🌺🌻✝️ 🌻🌺

I absolutely agree with you! It's definitely more rewarding! 💚
So happy I found your channel! My passion is gardening and art…. Colorful art! 💙💚💛🧡💜 Liz
We have so much in common! 💚 I just subscribed to your channel! 😁
Interesting stuff. Never knew all this. I went out today to a local nursery to see what they are starting to bring in. It was such an escape just to see and be around new plants and spend time planning and thinking about how they might fit in my own garden. It all made me feel better and more relaxed
I love this. I understand the feeling completely. Especially in early Spring, wandering around the local nursery feels so good and relaxing. You used the word "escape" and I think that's also accurate. Everything else just slips away.
Awesome video❤
Thank you so much!
I can't wait until spring 🌼🌼🌱
I couldn't agree more 😄💚
Great video!
Thanks so much! 💚
Hey Nicole, love this video and the whole concept of physical and mental health. In a shot where you showed I wanna say your rock garden with the head planter, are they candles and string lights, it looks stunning thanks
I'm so glad this idea resonated with you. 😊❤️ Yes, if you're referring to the night shots of the rock garden, I did in fact put out candles and have hung string lights permanently. The ambiance it creates allows me to enjoy the garden even at night. Thanks so much! 💚
I started gardening the spring after my dad passed. He enjoyed gardening so it made me feel close to him. Gardening really helped me manage my grief and stress. I also enjoy seeing my little babies grow!
That is beautiful. Thank you for sharing that piece of you. A girl's relationship with her dad is something special ❤️ I'm sure he's smiling looking at everything you're creating!
This is beautiful ❤
The answer to your questions...Absolutely....Im looking at the Power of God's creation...mental health, prayer etc etc......remember we all come from the soil...😊
Beautiful, I love it!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your comment!!! We all cone from the soil! 🙏😇🥰❤️ Liz
enjoyed the video. i'm looking forward to spring i know it's a while. i do feel so much better when i do a little something in the garden. those are some big rocks so i know they are heavy. your garden looks so beautiful. thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your message! It's a while for Spring, in a way, but at the same time, with our busy lives, the time could go quickly. There's a light at the end of the tunnel at least. Have a great night and thanks again!
Love it ❤
I'm so glad! 😃❤
Nice chat.

Thank YOU! 😃❤ Have an awesome night!!
Hi, did the leaf grow into a full plant or did it stay as just a leaf with roots?
@valerieskillman2934 it grew into a full plant 😊
@@mycarolinagardenThat’s so cool! Will it work with a Rex begonia too? I’m new to begonia.
@@valerieskillman2934 I haven't yet tried it with the Rex begonia (I got my first one recently) but from what I've read you can propagate a rex in water the same way!!
@@mycarolinagardenThanks again! Getting my scissors ✂️ out now lol.
Did you supply any heat to your greenhouse during really cold weather
Oh yeah for sure. The heat was running quite a lot during the cold spell.
I have a couple of tropical hibiscus in ground in 8b in panhandle of Florida. They have come up last 4 seasons after very cold nights during winters in the 20s. But, my issue is they never bloom again. Any thought what I could do to make them bloom?
So they're re-growing from the ground up? Or do they leaf out on the old wood that's there? The ones I overwinter in the greenhouse leaf and bud on the wood stems that exist, but the one I have in my ground starts all over each year.
I have this plant I propagated another one from it but how do i make it look nice and bushy??
They tend to get long and "leggy" for me as the growing season goes on, so I just need to clip it back and that makes it more bushy.
Nice
Plants in NC going from 0 to 100 (degrees) real quick 😂
I know, right! 😅
Hi Nicole, the last and this video have been very interesting and helpful, thank you for sharing and braving the cold to put out these videos.🌺
Awe, thank you! I appreciate you and your message. So glad the videos have been helpful! ❤️❄️
Nicole thank you for the winter garden information I will be on the lookout to see how many plants I lost from the snow
Glad the information could be helpful, and we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that your plants come back beautifully in the spring!
Hey Nicole. So looking forward to seeing your garden come Spring. I cannot believe how long this snow has stuck around! We have a lot melting in back not so much in front. It's shady with a couple of huge trees. This is a whole new property for us. Should still be zone 8 a. Not sure where the sun is going to be come Spring and Summer. The entire back yard is pine trees and needles and pine cones. Not even grass grows back there! The patio will likely get potted plants as well as the front porch. We have a couple of hydrangeas out front. They hacked them horribly right before we moved in at the end of Fall😢 Hopefully they will come back okay. They were a purpley lime color.
Good morning. You can do some beautiful displays of pots on the back patio, at least. It stinks you have lots of pine trees back there, so that not even grass grows. I wonder if you added more soil to an area back there, if you could have some pretty shade loving plants like Astilbe and Heuchera? It would be worth a try at least. 🤞your Hydrangeas come back great!!
Howdy from north Alabama 7b8a this winter a 7b here my tender plants like Fatsia I’ll keep a eye on my silver eucalyptus I can’t believe it looks good still my poor oleander will see I had a snow earlier this year but most of January has just been cold I had one night of 8 a few in the teens and rest in 20s but warmer weather is coming but don’t want to warm make stuff come out but on a positive note fruit trees lilacs and few other things in my yard my benifit from this chill time will tell ❤
@michaeloconnor8315 Time will tell, that's for sure. Hopefully your Oleander makes it through just fine. Single digit temps don't make anyone happy 😅 Our snow is finally beginning to melt today...
Hi Nicole 🌺. Very cool video of this tour at your garden . You plants are going to amazing after the snow . Have a great week end 🌺🌻🌺🌻
@@linakhoury6623 i always appreciate your kind words! Have a wonderful weekend! 🌞🌱
