เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ธ.ค. 2011
I'm passionate about the outdoors and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as metal detecting, Indian artifact hunting, magnet fishing, hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. After an indoor career, I have retired and will have time for my outdoor adventures. I will be publishing videos covering these and other outdoor activities! Born and raised in West Virginia, a lot of my videos will be filmed in WV and surrounding states, but I will take road/plane trips to other areas on my adventures. I hope to learn from other outdoor creators and share what I have learned along the way. I hope you enjoy the videos and if you have suggestions for new videos, please let me know.

Arrowhead Hunting On The River – Hopewell Point – Sifting For Artifacts
I hit a couple of spots and found several artifacts. The first stop produced a well-worn knife and the second stop produced a Hopewell point, some broken points and a piece of pottery. The weather was great, and it was a good day on the river.

Sifting For Arrowheads In The River - Behind The Scenes Footage
มุมมอง 8076 หลายเดือนก่อน
On today’s adventure, I find a spot loaded with flint flakes and fire rock. I found one whole point and several broken points. I somehow got the camera turned on when I put it back into the chess harness, so I’m going to include some “behind the scenes” footage in case you would like to see more of the process of filling the screen instead of just when I find something.
Heavy Duty Stemmed Point - River Arrowhead Hunting
มุมมอง 3247 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short hunt produced a couple of nice points. I found a good scraper laying out and sifted up a Heavy Duty Stemmed point, along with a Beacon Island point. The Heavy Duty is part of the Kirk cluster and it is considered to be a variant of the Kirk Stemmed Point and not a unique point type.
Arrowhead Hunting A New Stretch Of The Ohio River - Killer Kirk Found!
มุมมอง 8978 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today, I am exploring a new stretch of the Ohio River. Overall, I found very little until the end of the trip. I did find several spots with fire rock, but not much else. The last stop produced a killer Kirk point. I enjoyed the trip, even without the Kirk, but that find made the trip a winner.

Arrowhead Hunting The Ohio River After The 2024 Flood
มุมมอง 1.5K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
The flood waters have receded, but they left a lot of mud behind. It was thigh deep in places, so it limited the searchable areas somewhat. I still had a good trip and found some artifacts, including an Adena Dickson Contracting Stem among other points and pottery. The weather was great, and I had a good time.

I captured video footage of wild racoons mating, not once but twice! It happened on February 8th, 2024, then again on February 12th, 2024. Racoons are mostly nocturnal, but on the 8th, they were mating in daylight. Their mating session on the 12th was at night. On the 8th, a male racoon investigated the den and was chased away by the resident male, which came back and immediately started mating...

Arrowhead Hunting On The River! Points, Bottles And More!
มุมมอง 74110 หลายเดือนก่อน
It was a beautiful day on the river! I found a little bit of everything on the river today. It started with points like a Big Sandy, Kirk and Adena, among other brokes. I also found pottery, coins and a 140 year old bottle.
Slabbing Rocks With A Wet Tile Saw - Heat Treating Flint Ridge Flint Slabs
มุมมอง 77910 หลายเดือนก่อน
After visiting the Nethers Flint Farm and digging some chunks of Flint Ridge Flint, I wanted to cut the chunks into slabs. I won’t end up using the slabbing saw very often, so instead of buying a more expensive lapidary saw, I choose to go the wet tile saw route. I made some modifications to the wet tile saw to hold the rock in place and allow me to cut a uniform thickness slab on every pass. I...
Quartz Triangles Everywhere - Field walking For Native American Artifacts
มุมมอง 68611 หลายเดือนก่อน
While in the area for the Digstock IX metal detecting event, a group of us decided to go field walking looking for Indian artifacts the afternoon before we could start metal detecting. I came away with almost a dozen quartz points and most were triangles. This is a short video, as I left my GoPro in the truck and didn’t film much with my phone. Thanks for watching!

I have wanted to visit a flint quarry for a while now, so today, I went to the Nethers Flint Farm to dig some flint. They charge a $10 per adult digging fee and $1 per pound for the flint you take home. Nethers Farm parki...

Bennett's authenticating aren't always right. A buddy of mine sold some reproductions to an antique mall that someone else had bought. That someone else sent them to Bennetts and he actually authenticated them as Ancient when they weren't. My buddy recognized the points that he made when the story was posted on a Facebook group. Bennett's may have an expert reputation, but they aren't always correct. They miss some every now and then.
Yeah, I have had several people that live in the area where I found it, tell me that it is normal to find that type of flint with hinges on it. So, it could very likely be authentic. Thanks for watching!
Is that a 5 hp engine?
It’s a 9.5 hp. Kohler CH395-3190
What do these cost new ?
Electronic model is $6900 and manual is $5400.
How come the price is never posted ?
They have the prices on the “Order” page. Just click the menu icon on the top left and select Order. You will see the prices for the electronic controls model and the manual controls model, along with a few accessories. Www.mokai.com
There should be fuel filler cap on the top surface behind the seat.
Nice hunt. Thanks for letting me tag along. Peace
Thanks for watching!
First very nice quality movie about bobcats 😊 great job 🎉
Thank you very much!
It must be more stable then a plain jane kayak I would think right, or is it even a kayak, who cares I want one!
Yes, it is more stable. It is 12 foot long and 3 foot wide, so flipping over isn't a concern on the rivers that I travel. I don't think you would want to try fishing standing up. That might be tricky.
Awesome hunt. Just curious. Do you keep your flakes? I keep everything myself.
Thanks! I used to keep them and after I started to run out of places to store them, I had to stop. I only keep some flakes that are from really nice material, like translucent or colorful material.
I found one like that made out of brush creek. But it was broke in almost half. I got probably 3/4 of it. It was so thin. Someone new what they were doing
Yeah, they had to know what they were doing to survive without the modern conveniences we are used to.
You’re an amazing designer and mechanic. Very cool. Looks totally OEM. Maybe you van sell the design to Honda. They would do a fantastic job manufacturing them.
Good day on the river, first place looked challenging, almost needed a rappelling rope, thank goodness looking for man altered stone is difficult but the rewards are worthy, keeps most people just sitting on the couch 😎😎😎
Yes, that bank was steep. If you looked real close, you could barely see the large grape vine, about 3" in diameter, that I was holding on to. It ran up that slope and I used it like a rope to climb the bank. Good luck hunting!
Nice Hopewell point, very impressive large blade!
Thanks! That blade is cool because of all the resharpening it had from being used.
Nice saves Mark. Congrats on the Hunt for the helmet. I won it years ago
Thanks Doug! How long have they been doing the Herd Hunt for the Helmet? The WVU helmet hunt started in 2018. I didn't know they did the Herd one until right before it was found this year.
Nice big knife, that single complete piece was a very good find my friend. Great explanation supporting the reason for those findings. BLESSINGS FRIEND.
Thank you my friend! It’s been a slow Summer but I had a good day. Good luck!
That's awesome that you found the helmet !!😃👍💥 Killer finds, too !! Good luck out there, brother !! 😃✌🍀
Thanks brother! I got lucky with the helmet. When I pulled into that roadside park where it was hidden, there was a dozen people looking for it. It was cool but I like finding artifacts better. Good luck in the arrowhead patch!
@@OutdoorRetiree Lol, I bet you were still stoked to find it !!😎👊 Struggling right now, waiting for rain...lol 👍
@@historylooker7 Yes I was. I have been close to finding it in past years, but never thought I would actually find it. This is the first year they didn't include the $500 gas card with the tickets. With all the running I do to the river, I could have used that. My area is in an extreme drought right now. The weather man said we are the worst drought in the country right now. They are getting more rain out west where it is usually dry. No rain, not much is getting washed off the river banks right now.
@@OutdoorRetiree Hope we both get rain soon, man ✌
Let’s go mark!! Rocks has been killing everyone!!! lol. It has been hot and no rain, I haven’t dug my site because of those reasons…. That stone sure looked pitted??? Just saying….
Yeah he has. He puts the effort in and it is paying off. It’s been too hot for me to work that hard.
Yeah, it looked pitted before I picked it up, but the pit wasn't circular, so I don't think it was one. I guess something could have hit it just right and broken the pit and made it look like a natural hole.
Nice finds! I’d be checking that spot you found the blade quite often looks pretty promising! Good video and happy hunting!
That is a new spot for me and it is super steep. You may have noticed I was holding onto a grape vine that was running up the bank to keep from falling. There was a ton of fire rock on the bank. Unfortunately, there was only a few feet of clay at the bottom, so most of the rock that made it to the river went off the edge and gone for good. I'll definitely check that spot some more. Too much stuff to not go back.
@@OutdoorRetiree I know the feeling I have a spot similar just not as steep that if you don’t catch it early it’s gone forever. How’s the mokia doing?
@@RiverRatArtifacts The Mokai is doing great. It is 3 years old now. I have 160 hours and over 1700 miles on it. How is your Mokai doing?
@@OutdoorRetiree It’s been pretty good.river conditions play a big role in speed but I love it for its versatility and accessibility to certain places. I’ve had the pump rebuilt twice but I put a lot hours it. Don’t really want to upgrade to a bigger boat but I might if the reliability goes down.
@@RiverRatArtifacts The leaves are starting to fall and that makes for a lot of grate/pump cleanouts while out of the river. I had Tom rebuild my pump once and it is still doing good. I thought about a full size boat before I bought the Mokai, but a boat would be harder to get into all the spots I go to. It suits me better too. So far, it has been reliable. I do carry spare parts, so I could fix most problems if they happened.
Nice day on the river.
Yes, not bad considering it has been slow lately. I need to get back on the river more often now that the weather is cooling off a little.
@@OutdoorRetiree Same here, I've hardly been out at all this summer.
@@leatherwoodcraftsHey, I saw you had the comments turned off on your latest video and understand why. Just wanted to say that was a great video and an awesome Elk River point. I haven’t been out searching much and haven’t posted a video for a while now. Good luck when you get back out.
@@OutdoorRetiree Thanks! I went out a couple days later and found five points on one site, and hit it again yesterday and found a killer Snyders. Most of the river was still silted, but for some reason this one little spot that is not usually very good was scoured and points were laying everywhere. Must have been the direction the wind has been blowing the waves up against it. Now the leaves are starting to cover the ground though. Good luck, I hope you get out there and find something good soon.
GREAT FINDS .. thanks for sharing ....peace
Thanks for watching!
Incredible piece of equipment.
Excellent info, I was wondering if it's possible to purchase just the running gear along with the "Painless" mods? Also if so would they send to Australia, cheers
Thanks! The New York facility only ships to North America, but they do have an office in Ireland that ships International. They ship ocean freight to the closest port and you would have to arrange to pick it up or be shipped from there. Their web site says it takes 10-30 days for shipping. On their web site, you can order with either electronic controls or manual controls. The Painless upgrades can be ordered from PainlessTom. I guess he would ship international. You would have to check with him to find out. His email is: Painlesstom@improvingyourmokai.com The Mokai site is: www.mokai.com and Tom's site for the ES-Kape 2.0 is: www.painlesstom.com/ESKV2.html You can see information about international sales by clicking the Order tab on their web site. Have a good day!
What is the horse power and how deep of water do you need?
It has a 9.5 hp Kohler in it. I wouldn’t take it in less than a foot of water. Sitting still, it sits 7” down. If you get too shallow, it can suck debris off of the bottom.
@@OutdoorRetiree thank you!
If can go downhill even a little hill will get right up to 20. It is slower going uphill i found
In prime conditions, I have hit 22, but I seldom seem those conditions. I usually have a little chop on the water, some wind, maybe a piece of debris in the intake, so I usually get around 17-18 mph.
That's to cool😮🎉
i dont even own one and i watch!
Thanks for watching!
very nice. Can we use this kayak on sea or ocean?
It isn’t recommended. Salt water would cause corrosion.
@@OutdoorRetiree "Apart from corrosion, how would mokai be stable in sea waves?
I’ve had it in 3 foot waves on the Ohio River during 20+ mph winds and that was all I would want to try. That is probably calm compared to taking it to the ocean.
@@OutdoorRetiree Thanks...
You’re welcome!
Actually, I want one with the 300 hp supercharged jet ski motor!! Go big or go home! And what are you “searching” for?!?!
I would love to have more power in it! I like to search for Indian artifacts along the rivers.
Great spot! Awesome footage!!
Thanks a lot!

how much gas does it hold and how far can you go with it?
It has a 4 gallon tank and I get about 15 mpg, so it has almost a 60 mile range without carrying extra fuel.
How long does it last fully loaded anyone know?
If you are asking about how far it can go, the gas tank holds 4 gallons and I get about 15 mpg, so 60 mile round trip without taking extra fuel.
Waiting on our boats been over 4 months was told was to ship 2 weeks ago. Missed out on few trips because not having them to use. Yeah, it is a real company, just a little slow to get the boats out. Mine took over 2 months to ship. It does seem like it takes forever when you are anxiously waiting on it to arrive. I am almost at 3 years with mine now and still enjoying it.
