Hiking on Lanzarote | Finding tranquility in the sea of lava
On the search for a more secluded hiking spot on Lanzarote I explored the Parque Natural de Los Volcanes. I hiked a path around Montaña Colorada and after that I followed a trail to Volcán Santa Catalina (Caldera de la Rilla). This was a very serene and quiet place and it is amazing. The trails I hiked are part of the Ruta del Mar de Lava.

The impossible vineyards of Lanzarote | Hiking in La Geria
The unique vineyards of La Geria on Lanzarote are a place that you have to visit when you are on Lanzarote. 🇪🇸 They are a fantastic place for hiking and exploration. These vineyards are the product of an ingenious method of cultivation in a volcanic landscape. Lanzarote has an arid desert climate, and since the large eruptions of the volcanoes in 1730, it has been largely covered by non-fertile...
Best hike on Lanzarote? Caldera Blanca
Hike with me up to Caldera Blanca. This hike is incredible and there is a good reason why it is obligatory on the itineraries of hikers visiting Lanzarote. Caldera Blanca (Montaña Blanca) is located in the Parque Natural de Los Volcanes and it is among the highest peaks on Lanzarote. The white volcano sticks out in satellite imagery because it is brighter than the surrounding volcanoes. Its cra...

Why do you love volcanos so much, if I may ask?
What month did you run this?
I am preparing and training for a 50km beach hike and hoping to finish it in 10 hrs. But 11 hrs will be fine as well, as long as i make it 😅
Good luck! :) I agree that the most important part is to finish. You can always improve the time later! :)

Thanks for the video, born and raised in the UK but emigrated to the US (Oswego) for a couple of years then back in the UK now.😊
Very cool! Glad you enjoyed this little trip back to Oswego :)
very nice
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice place
It really is!
Stunning pictures and wonderful music that suits so well
Thank you :)
Hello, what is the app you use for your trail navigation?! thank you!
I use Komoot and sometimes AllTrails. It depends on what works better where. On Sao Miguel I used Komoot. :)
Magical place
If you want to hike from NYC there is a trail that goes from NYC to Albany. It's called the New York State Long Path. It's a 358 mile trail that people usually section Hike. I thru -hiked it in 2022.
That sounds incredible!! 🙂 Fantastic idea as well, thank you 🙂
what a dump i was lucky enough to only go there one time very cold
I loved it! :) Temperatures and weather as a whole were perfect for hiking. I enjoy extremely cold weather, so going there in winter one day would be amazing.
Went on a University field trip to this area last year, and it really is a fantastic landscape. Sadly we were there just for research and had no chance to walk these trails, so thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed this! :) Research sounds potentially interesting though!
The one time I tried to do a solo night hike, it was a new moon in southern Utah, pitch black, incredible view of the stars. But I got so spooked in the dark I couldn't even leave the parking lot at the trailhead. Still some incredible stargazing and an amazing view of the Perseids meteor shower, even though I never left the trailhead. Definitely want to overcome that fear and get into night hiking. Just gotta bring a lot of lights and start small I guess. Or drop $5k on a decent pair of night vision goggles.
Yes, the night is beautiful but also intimidating. I've done a couple of night hikes now, and I still haven't gotten used to it. Night vision goggles wouldn't be for me; I'd worry about sneaking up on animals and startling them. With lights, they can see me beforehand. :D
Thanks for the video, I send you a Video in instagram
I love this video! I live in Albuquerque New Mexico USA. I walked a 50k through my city earlier this year. It was great and so tiring. 50k is an ultramarathon. It was so great to get back home and lay down and have a meal. Thanks!
Cool! :) Yes, it is so rewarding!
Very nice views at the top of the island... Thanks for your post!
Thanks! 🙂 I was super lucky with the weather that day!
Beautiful, you presented this masterfully! Such a lovely storytelling my friend!
Thank you! :)
Great adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I lived in Oswego from 1963 until my high school graduation in 1973, so it brings back many childhood memories. My mom taught German at the high school and she organized student exchange programs leading us to have German students stay with us occasionally. I was happy to leave Oswego at the time as the excitement and opportunities of college and big cities elsewhere pulled me away. Seeing the town here, still looking much as it did back then, makes me forget the downsides of living there as it does have certain advantages. Now, retired, the idea of facing the long, gray, brutal winters at my age isn't something I would want to do. You definitely visited it at the right time of year!
I am actually curious about the winters... ;) I love winters, so I would love it to go back there in a harsh winter some day. In northern Germany, where I live, there are only mild winters and I really like snow...
@@OfftoMarvelousPlaces If you Google the text, "Oswego NY snow" , you will see links to various articles and videos of Oswego in the winter. As a kid, it was great as we would go sledding down big hills and make cool snow forts. I live in a Philadelphia suburb now, and we only get a few inches of snow. A mere six inches shuts this area down. It takes a few feet in Oswego before there is a real impact as they have a huge number of snow trucks to keep things clear, but as kids we would be happy when they had to shut down the schools. A couple hundred miles south to where I am now and it is a totally different climate. In Oswego, I remember when the snow drifted up so high that they had to shovel out a tunnel to get through the front door of the local newspaper office. I think that was back in '66, but they have had similar winters since. I would spend hours shoveling the driveway and sidewalk. The typical winds from the Canadian northwest travel across the lake and dump the moisture as it hits the land. They call it the "lake effect". That effect extends south to Syracuse where there are some hills for skiing, but the skiing is nothing like in Vermont or the Adirondacks where the higher mountains are although the snowfall a bit less. But that lake effect snowfall makes all of Central NY pretty intense with snowfall, although the cities along the shore, such as Buffalo, Rochester and Oswego are particularly bad. The lakeshore can be awesome in the winter with huge mounds of ice/snow and it looks like the Arctic. It is impressive, and those mounds can be six feet or more high and look like you can walk on them, but are actually unstable and you can break right through to the lake underneath so keep on the high ground if you go back there. Your video here shows you going on walks through a few trails around Oswego. If you really want to experience the wilderness or skiing in NY, though, you really want to go to the High Peaks region in the Adirondacks, such as Lake Placid. The Adirondacks is the largest state park in the USA. Not the Alps, but it is still magical. Don't go backpacking there in the winter unless you are with someone as it is very dangerous. Other times, you need to check when the bugs won't eat you. And anywhere in the Northeast, you now need to have lots of protection from ticks as Lyme Disease is no joke -- and don't forget bear spray in wilderness areas.
Nice hike. Which forest was this? I used to love hiking and camping, but living in a densely populated urban sprawl makes that very difficult.
It's close to a German city but at night there is nobody there (except hunters sometimes).
This trail is absolutely amazing my friend! Love it 👏👏
It really is! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
You can walk around Calderita on the ground. I've also seen people who took the way up on the left like you and got quite far. But AFAIK you can't walk around the top of the vulcano completely on any 'official' trail.
I thought so, yes. I saw someone walking the round trail at the bottom and it is probably better than trying to get up to the Caldereta ridge. The views won’t be so different or better compared to the views from Caldera Blanca
Are u fan of Jim Morrison
Not particularly, although I do like some songs of the Doors. Why do you ask? :)
@@OfftoMarvelousPlaces no actually I am too much obsessed about him and many more musicians .....
There are bears around the area. There isn't a lot compared to our mountain areas of NY, maybe a handful or so, but they do exist. They probability of you actually encountering one though is super slim.
Great to know, thank you!! :)
Rudy's ❤
Oh yes, that was great! :)
A big chunk of the land in and around the Sterling nature center used to be orchards and farms.
I guess more will be swallowed up by erosion in the upcoming couple of hundred of years...
Beautiful, need to visit this lake next time 😍
Definitely! :) The entire region is a great place to visit :)
Hi, I really like your videos! I would like to be your follower on Komoot to follow your work. Thanks
Hey, thanks! I don't have a public profile on Komoot yet. I just use it for planning my trails. But I'll look into it :)
I love your videos thank you so much for sharing. I will be going to San Miguel Island in the near future and the information you have shared has made my trip so much easier. I just wanted to ask you what app do you use for your hiking trails?
Fantastic! Have fun on São Miguel! :) On this trip I used Komoot for navigation.
You did a good job showing what Oswego is like. I lived there for a few years back in the 1980's and it was nice to see some of the places I remember. Thanks very much for doing this. Why did you choose to visit Oswego?
Very cool to hear, glad you enjoyed the little tour! I was visiting a friend :)
Thank you for creating these videos.
Glad you like them! :)
Hello from oswego !
Hello there! :)
The city is also great when you have access to the immediate areas surrounding the town. So many nature areas, and amazing scenery.

Interestingly, we went to pretty much the same travel destinations in the same years since you started your channel (though I skipped the US and did Rügen instead of Sylt) 😀 So I guess we can expect videos from Cape Verde and Sri Lanka in the near future.😄
you're not wrong lol
Seriuosly?! Ok, I will not spoil which one is first or if one of them was only for a diversion. 😅
Only one of them is on my bucket list. I will not tell which haha :D
Really peculiar landscapes on this island, one of the gems of our world ❤

I walked 15km today (ramadan)

Great video of the natural landscape! I really appreciate you showing where you are on the map during each of your videos. Most videos I watch, people don't think of doing that!

Woah, that's so cool!! :)
How do you find the trails for your hikes?
Gute Reise! :)
This city is truly beautiful!! Thanks for sharing ❤ your urban hike!
It's an amazing city to visit and explore! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Great video ! I will definitely try this one. Can you please share the app you use for trails? And also what bus did u take? Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! :) I use Komoot, which appeared to be quite good for Sao Miguel. Not sure about the exact bus. I used Google to see when and where the busses left from Ribeirinha to Furnas. They do not go very frequently, so I kept numbers of taxi companies with me as well for backup.
