Which lens did you use?

Basically, the phones can get great great looking images when everything is good, but when theres lousy light etc. then it fails. If you are a pro who *needs* to get the shot, you can't rely on a phone.

can you try to compare the 5x lens with some 1/2.3 inch or 1/1.7 inch compact camera. the sensor size of 5x zoom of s24U is smaller than 1/2.3 (small compact cameras). Also compare the main camera with 1 inch sensor camera like rx100 series (main camera is a bit smaller than 1 inch)

3:02 It's already a win for mobile phone whilst you campare two photos side by side. And at 100% scale on a computer monitor, you hardly notice the difference, or even, the Samsung's pic's color and sharpness is more pleasant to my eye. Needless to say, to a ordinary folk, 99% of his user scenario of taking and viewing photos is on mobile device, not on a 24inch monitor and amplified to 200+%

We need to test the 1x lens more and maybe even use the 200MP mode to see if it is any better.

Well a Pro camera will always win, because of physics. It is larger, which means you can implement a bigger sensor, you can put a 30x optical zoom lens if you want, try that with a phone! But the Samsung did a very good job with the main lens indeed!

I would never pay the extra for the little difference I see between them. But I love what you did here

Anytime I edit with my camera vs phone camera, I always see the over processing the phone spits out. The small sensor just can’t do what a full frame or even an APS-C sensor can do. That being said, the phone cameras are pretty good for what they are and it’s honestly impressive that we can make this type of comparison these days. Still don’t see myself doing bird photography with a phone anytime soon.

Сравнение интересное, но надо понимать, что на Самсунге сильная вычислительная фотография, и обходить это, сравнивая чисто RAW, не всегда является хорошей идеей. Так же понятно, что на высоких ISO маленькая матрица проигрывает большой, чисто для сравнения - это понятно, но какой смысл в таком ISO днём? Если бы эта матрица была лучше большой, то она уже давно была бы в профессиональных фотоаппаратах.

it just shows that as Google said, the quality of the software is becoming more important than the quality of the hardware. Considering most people never look at their photos on anything other than their phone most of the hardware benefits are irrelevant anyway. If it looks good on a 5" screen that is good enough! I print photos and it becomes pretty apparent that a real camera is best for large prints, but otherwise a phone these days is perfect for everything else.

Great video, very good and useful comparison! Are you able to create similar video using the Pixel 8 Pro? I've read that the RAW of Pixel 8 Pro is much better than Samsung, as there's less oversharpening on the Pixel 8 Pro RAW files, but I'm curious how that looks in practice.

The irony is that the equivalent aperture of the S24 main lens is much less than f8. Propably something close to f5.6. So the dof on the Smartphone photos is actually shallower in this comparison (for the main lens).

this video is better than any other comparison video i've ever seen. i don't understand why your channel doesn't have many subscribers.

canon r5 colors just suck. it was the main reason I could never jive with the camera. Tons of magenta cast, weird highlight rolloffs, files felt very synthetic. massive disappointment coming from years of 5D ownership

People still don't know that the "RAW" files from the Samsung camera app (and the expert app) ARE NOT real RAW files. They are in a RAW (DNG) container, but the data it contains is a mere jpeg level of data. This is literally Samsung's own doing and they won't address it or even talk about it. Now, for anyone looking to actually take REAL DNG's / RAW files from the samsung phones, you need to find a third party camera app that produces uncompressed RAW files. There are plenty out there and they give you true RAW quality, straight from the sensor, without any sharpening or intrusive post processing.

I can't help but wonder if the S24's zoom camera just had the same size sensor that it does now, but with 16 or 20 megapixels if the pictures would be any cleaner It just really feels like the high megapixel count really isn't showing any real results

There will be a time that smartphones can now cost US$2000 that can make full frame cameras a yesterday's technology especially if AI is improving too fast that no one notice that the image is processed by an AI.

Its crazy that you have to bump up the ISO or go to 100% zoom to really see a difference between it. Now imagine this comparison 10 years ago

Samsung adding sharpening and ai noise removal to their "expert" raw is just awful, and as another commenter said, defeats the purpose of RAW. At least with the Pixel, even though you *only* get stacked RAWs, you still get the full noise and unsharpened output you'd expect. Makes the images feel so much more real and organic

Can you make a video comparing the iq of a nikon to one of the newer sony cameras?

This comparison is the same as a high end microscope vs a magnifying glass.

The Samsung image is so typical of the image from virtually all smartphone cameras, over-sharpened to compensate for the per pixel resolving power and/or the inherent smearing due to the need to apply noise reduction to minimize the otherwise apparent noise in the image starting from anything but the base lowest ISO. It's simply the physics of pixel size. The bigger is always better. The pixel downsampling technique plus exposure stacking can help reduce the disadvantage but at the same time also introduces various kinds of image artifacts created by timing difference as well as the predictive image reconstruction algorithm.

Very nice comparsion. I have Z7 & Z6II, same conclusions. Z7 for max quality, Z6 for max reportage

Portability is the most important. I wont carry a camera so big 99% of time. I bought some big binoculars, too. I ended gaving them away and buying a small 12X25. Bigger is better but its zero if its left home.

People nowadays forget that in the and of day this is a digital CAMERA. Just appreciate what an amazing quality photos you are able to make with a digital CAMERA!

I think a good comparison would be if u printed out the photos and compared how they look on physical media

Each pixel site on the Nikon is being fed much more light due to the much larger lens.

What about 200 MP is it really 200? Or it's just resolution increase ?

In term of sensor comparison, the difference is in the color science between them. Using an overall monotonic greenish object (mountain side) defeats the purpose. It could be a great video if you select a landscape scene with more colors.

Imagine shooting at f8 to give phone a chance. Cameras are cameras for a reason. Phones can't compete with their tiny lenses.

Canon clearly better also with high iso. Noise is much less prominent and that tiny color shift is negligible. 4 years later, still best camera in it's class.

Now compare gaming performance between the two... just about as silly of a comparison...

Interesting, but the photos were taken in good conditions, and landscapes. That is "easy". I'd like to see photos taken in low-light, portraits, still lifes, fast moving actions... That would really show the up and down of small sensors.

A Samsung phone is a phone. And as a phone, its pictures are amazing when seen on a small screen, like the phone's. However, when it comes to real-world processing of images, a real camera is just another four or five degrees above! Also, it's important to note that Expert RAW is gimmick software. The image quality of the RAW files it produces is as good as garbage. Indeed, they put some kind of processed JPG file and renamed the file as RAW. The original Pro Mode of the camera produces true RAW files that retain more dynamic range and image detail.

Mountain colors of the Z8 are awfull.. they should be better but it's not. Colors of Z8 are flat
