I so love your work and your videos. You are a master craftsman. So talented. I’ve been an aspiring woodworker for 30 years and don’t have near your talent. May I ask, can I get as much craftsmanship without the hand planes? I don’t have near the number that you have, and the ones I do have aren’t nearly as sharp. Your’s are amazingly sharp. How often do you sharpen them? Again, phenomenal work.

really glad to see you finish BEFORE glue-up. Have watched lot of woodworking vids here and have only seen two who finish before glue. I don't understand why. Keeps the glue from penetrating unfinished wood, for one thing. Great work. Thanks. and THANKS for no music!

I've been building boxes for about 15 years, so I've seen a few, and yours are really top notch! Consider a card scraper for finishing down the inlay on the top. I've gouged the veneer with a hand plane by accident and it's a real buzz kill on the project! You won't do that with a card scraper.

Well done! Not keen on the white base, I feel like it takes a bit away from the beauty of the top and overall aesthetics. But hey, the desk wasn't made for me. 👍Subscribed.

Do you cut anything other than miters on your corners? Maybe box joints or dovetails, your miters are tight and good for wrap around grain pattern

Very nice built! I like the hinge and the matching colours of the woods. The inlay box is very delicate. About the knob: I would prefer a little wooden strip in the lid. A very beautiful box, you made!

I love making cabinets like these. There is so much detail packed into such a little piece that you really have to pay attention. It also gives you some freedom to try some thing at the same time. This piece is fantastic!

what is the tool called for making the centerholes for the metal rod ?

Nice project, good detail and use of mostly all hand tools. I wasn't able to have on the sound, so I'm not quite sure the width of the panels. The only things of my opinion would be to add splines if the side panels are 1/2" or less; as an alternative to the V-ish groove on the front panel for opening the lid, perhaps a short horizontal concave groove along the middle of the front lid edge itself?

Your glue method is brilliant. Semi end grains. Hitting it twice prob double the strength of bond.

That was brilliant, thank you. I love the advice too on each step, especially the finishing. Does shellac go off? I just tried to use some that was in the cabinet and found it strange and not at all like it was a few years ago (so I guess I answered my own question :) )

I've done acres of raw and NBL veneer with hot hide, contact, and lately XPress in my home shop the past 70 years, mainly on furniture and speaker cabinets. I always have overcut the leafs a 1/2" or so to allow for the inevitable creep while setting the clamps. Never having done such a small project I find what you did at 12 minutes, trimming the leaf to exact size then taping it in place not only astonishing, but heroic! I have a box I machined and glued up for the top veneer today inspired by a few of your videos but come on now, does that really work ten boxes out of ten? No wood stove in the corner? There's a nice offcut piece of cherry NBL riding on your answer.
