I like that 500. It grew on me throughout the vid.

My mate John was discussing bikes earlier and said that one of his favourite was a old cx500. I said wait a min Nat just got one. So we look forward to seeing whar you do with it Nat

I ride an 81 cx as my daily, they are a good plodder, the CV carbs can be tricky when running pods to much air flow lowers the vacuum on the needle jet piston, you might not need to increase jets to much they run on the rich side normally. Looking forward to the fitting about fella

g'day Nat, Happy New Year to you & the family. Whenever you wash it, just cover the air filter pods & oil breather pod. They don't react well to water. Edit: colour wise, personally would go with Honda Red or Blue or a combination of red/white. You could go tough black on the whole exhaust system?😉

Nothing stopping you from also shortening the slashcuts by a couple of inches, just means a bit more welding and dressing up, not your best Sunday frock though. There's some nice ivory pearlescent paints on the market which would tie in with the seat.

Keep the gold accents and match the tank etc. It will look like a real glam bike

I had two of these back in the day, so looking forward to seeing where you go with this. For what it's worth, here's some info about the CX500B. Those instruments and headlight won't be original as the OE design had a plastic binnacle and flyscreen. The crankcases would originally have been bare (lacquered) aluminum with the rocker covers having a polished, lacquered appearance. Finally, UK CXs came with a twin disc setup and coffin style master cylinder. The US versions had single discs and higher bars. So it's either a US import or the original "builder" decided to make it single disc. They didn't stop well with two discs, so why anyone would want to actually reduce braking power is a mystery! Have fun!

Any tips for getting onto guzzidiag iv downloaded it and the ftdi vcp drivers but it won't connect to bike I turn ignition on and it pops up tht ignition is off an iv done the com port 3 preferences just will not have it wondered if u had any similar issues

A dark bronze metallic tank would look nice with that seat and the grips. It all depends upon what look you're going for and I I don't think even you can answer that one at the moment. Take a bit of time, browse the internet and then decide what you want to achieve.

The magazine pouch looks like Flecktarn camo, used by the Germans and also the US forces, per the label, yours is a German made item from circa mid 90s

These twisted twins make excellent cafe' units... swap to a mono rear shock ..... great looking machines.... I have a Cx trike.. purpose built police unit.... they made 200 of them back in the early 80's... 😎

Jesus wept, Nat, did Del make that horrible hotchpotch of parts? How to take a plastic maggot and make it look worse. That seat's foul, my money's on the pipes being rotten under the wrap, and it wants a factory airbox putting back on it.

Bugger me. Edit2: Nippon Denso rev counter not working on not connected. Fortunately, i have one of those from my 1982 Ducati Pantah donor spares....

RFY shocks aren't too bad, they're a chinese copy of ohlins etc - the little canisters are meant to be pre-filled and pressurized with nitrogen, they're a little bit softer and best suited to low CC lighterweight motorcycles, not too sure how well they'd fair on the CX500 - the pre-load looks like it's been tweaked, from factory there's about an inch gap from the gold-adjuster to the black mounting bracket at the top.

Don't worry about us Nat, just get settled in the new house first. Does the missus know she bought you those two bikes for Christmas or will it be a surprise? The CX certainly looks quirky and I agree with you about the gold 'enhancements. Stripping off the wrap could well open a completely new can of worms but at least he runs. First priority , find out where that smoke is coming from, cooling system or engine wear (you said it had been around a bit). Now to the Superdream 125. I like the look but I think it should be upgraded to a 250 ASAP then you can do comparisons to check why your other one is just a garage ornament.🤣

rid Otto of the gaudy stuff, and a nice tasteful classy paint job and I think he will look rather good - how about an update on your plans for the other superdream and the 650 Nat? anything changed?

Solid bikes them CX500, exhaust wrap seems little suspicious could be hiding rotten pipes. Seems to be blowing a bit inline with the centre stand. Popping will be those cheap cans. Apart from the paint job looks tidy. Gold adonizing is easy enough to get rid of. Either way they're good fun to ride and sound lovely. RFY shocks seems to be Ohlins knock offs but have decent enough reviews. The Super Dream looks to be fairly well done, the proportions look good but, as you say, the devil is in the detail.

I had a cx500 years ago and a 250 Super Dream and loved them. But they were in there original state, that cx looks good, apart from the wrap and is to loud. Nice bikes thou 👍

Yup that sucks mate, black ice is a basta , ive had a bunch of those through winter riding myself, if lucky you dont get injured, but the repairs can cost a tonne, all the best

Congratulations on the big move Nat! The new garage looks the same as the old one! A curtain hiding a pile of stuff! It certainly looks well lit up, so no dark zones in filming your next mechanical adventures! Well done! Really enjoyed your NZ adventure too!

I would have tried to avoid those leaves and so a slightly wider turn would have helped. Wet leaves, ice and diesel are always a no no. Though it is always easy to be wise after the event. Glad you are ok.

That is one hell of a commute you have to do 🤣
