Am I missing something? You seemed to be turning the engine the right way when putting the cam sprocket bolts on. Turning the flywheel aniticlockwise, so side of the cam chain under tension is the one not being acted on by the tensioner.

I am somewhat amazed that you took on this task as I always considered the engines from that long ago to be too far gone to be brought back. Am I bored watching ? No not a bit.
