- As motorcyclists, we share a common bond that runs much deeper than we might think. Join me on my 2017 Triumph Bonneville T120 Black as I explore the Mount Saint Helens area in Washington and talk about the things that unite us as riders.

I mostly ride alone, I also work alone and live alone due to being widowed young, when I jump on my bike (ADV bike) I feel part of the world again, the waves from other riders, the random conversations with complete strangers, the envious looks when I stop somewhere with me and the bike covered in mud after some adventure. People treat you different when you're on a bike and it's easy to feel a common bond. It's 4 years since I lost my Mrs to cancer, bought the bike shortly after to get my mind off the grief , I credit the bike and the community for saving my sanity, I think I would have fallen into depression without it. I always carry a photo of her in my pocket so it's like riding together.
I'm sorry to hear about your Mrs.
You're so right. People treat you different when you're on a bike. And what's more, people treat you different depending on what gear you happen to be wearing that day. It's the strangest thing, but I quite enjoy it. I get different reactions if I'm wearing my leather jacket, as opposed to my ADV jacket, as opposed to my black jacket...
This is gonna sound ODD. But I usually carry my helmet into a store with me, not because I'm trying to look cool or anything, but to provide context as to why I'm dressed the way I am. I don't actually care what people think, at all, but I do feel a bit out of place if I walk in to a store wearing a fully padded-up jacket with an airbag under it, and I'm not holding a helmet.
I think I need professional help. :)
Thanks for your story. Kinda choked up a bit thinking about you carrying her photo in your pocket when you ride. That's beautiful.
Silverdale... if you haven't done so already, be sure to read "Ghost Rider" by Neil Peart (the drummer for RUSH).
It resonated with me after the dark years of covid and I didn't lose any family members (just saw a lot of other family's losses).
I think you would have an appreciation for the journey he and you have traveled.
Keep riding and maybe we'll meet on the side of the road one day.

@@williammahaffy4642 Thanks for the reply, yes I've read that already, was one of the first books I downloaded, he had a pretty rough time, it's good to read about others struggles and how they get through. Amazing how many ride for their mental health. Best wishes from NZ
In a world where youtubers are obsessed or forced to concentrate on first 30 seconds retention, screaming down the camera and all just Mr Beast cookie cutter channels, what a breath of fresh air this channel is. You deserve to grow big. Subbed and looking forward to how this channel developes from here.
Thanks, I really appreciate that. I hope this channel grows too, because I enjoy the heck out of making this kind of calm content. Which is funny because my scooter channel isn't what I'd describe as 'calm,' but it's at least emotionally honest, like this channel hopes to be.
I think I've only seen one Mr. Beast video. Good for him, but I want nothing to do with that world...
Couldn't agree more! So nice to see someone actually doing something unique and different on TH-cam.
One time i was parked up, an old guy came up maybe pushing 90, he said he hadnt seen a royal enfield in years. He used to ride one in the 50s. I seen him light up as it took him straight back to his youth. He waa so happy.
I had a real old boy admiring my Thruxton 1200, “just like mine back in the 60’s, same Amal carbs” he said, I hadn’t the heart to tell him it was injection, water cooled etc etc 🙂
Keep the videos coming Bug 👍
Glad you didn't ruin his day! :)
“We have lives that exist in parallel…” This is it!!!
Nailed another one. You’re good at this. Really enjoying your content. Thanks. ✋
Aw thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. So much fun to make.
I came across a young learner rider who'd ran out of gas ⛽️ He was parked at the side of a busy country road with he's back to traffic, on he's phone 📱 looking for help.
I wasn't on my bike, l was in my VW TRANSPORTER Van with my son ,so l pulled over with Hazard lights Flashing.
I told him to move he's bike off the road and reminded him he was that this road is a 60mph.
I had a can of fuel ⛽️ filled he's bike 🏍 and had a polite chat about how dangerous it was to sit on the side of a busy road here in Ireland 🇮🇪 with trucks and cars speeding past only feet away.
I told him how important it was to check everything on he's bike beforehand.
He got away safely and when l returned to my van my 29 year old non biker so said how cool it was for me to do that.
I told my son I'm a biker and he's a biker, We Are Bikers.
That's great!
You’ve put words into some very insightful thoughts on why we ride. Thank you.
My experiences with other riders have been almost completely positive and it's wonderful to know we've got each others back. There's been a few rare exceptions. Like anything, some bad eggs exist, but they're not the norm.
Well done! Interesting, yet relaxing. After many years of touring locations and rallies in this great land of ours, I have not come across many strangers on bikes. They are just riders like me, that I haven’t met just yet.
Loved this calming video 👍👍
Wholeheartedly agree. Ive met many riders on my motorcycle rides and journeys. Good times.
You just made me cry.
Thanks.
No, seriously, thanks.
We are true bikers with a helping hand if needed❤😊
Bug...
This was exceptionally good.
Somehow the Universe knows where to point me for inspiration and some peaceful reflection.
Thanks for providing that today.
Nice video Bug. We need more "Bugs" in this crazy world. 🤙
Well, I dunno about THAT, but thank you! :)
Your words resonate as I prepare for an annual tour down the Oregon coast into California. Thanks for reminding me why I do this.
Good luck! Hoping to do that trip this summer.
I enjoy your reflections on your triumph. I buy into the therapist notion but I feel my Rebel as a friend, a very good friend who I always enjoy meeting up with but my Rebel is more like a "father confessor" for me, for I'm never more honest with myself than when I'm on my bike. I've a trip planned for next month and already I'm in the zone.
I absolutely concur with you Dan there’s nothing like the motorcycle community always there to lend a hand and exchange stories, I love my T120 it’s a keeper 😊 stay safe buddy enjoy your bike I really enjoyed your video, All the best James from uk👍🏻🏍
Thanks James!
Well done Bug.
What an incredible channel. Thank you for being different.
Another very enjoyable vlog. And everything you say rings through with me since I took up biking. I've made a whole new circle of friends. Also, not just men, but plenty of older ladies have come over to admire my bikes..like it was something they wished they'd experienced.
Same.
In these parts there are a lot more women in our scooter community than I've noticed in the motorcycle community. It's great.
As always - amazing views, great music and I could not agree more with your words. I'm very curious how does this selfishness works - why do I want to ride so much, why do I have to chase for this calm in my mind while on wheels. It's much to much addictive :D
Love how your videos capture the reasons for, and the joy of, riding. I've only had my T120 for a couple of weeks, but completely love it and all that it means. If you're ever looking to ride down Salem way, let me know if you'd like some company.
Will do! I was down there a couple of weeks ago on a covered bridge ride. Had a great lunch downtown, but now I can't remember the name of the place... Memory's slippin'!
Thank you! Keep inspiring, keep motivating, you're doing great! 👍👍
Beautiful video - you have a great voice for this. Going for a ride tomorrow!
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed your ride!
The fun thing is: that works worldwide... (not, that i´ve been thaaat much around but at least thats what videos show)
Cheers from Austria Christian 🤙
Cheers!
Type this stuff up Bug. There's a Book in there We would all read.
Until then I'll just keep watching & subscribing.
This is the greatest motorcycle channel on YT , greetings from France to all my fellow riders from all around the world ✌️
Aw thanks!
The “wave” still gets me every time 🫡 Don’t forget the one Moto show starts this Friday!
I'll be there! I just found out there'll be some demo bikes there for riding. I had no idea. Can't wait!
I enjoyed this video! 👍🏍️🛵
Hey, Dan. Really enjoying your take on riding. Looking forward to more videos from you, sir!
Thanks! Love that profile pic. Outstanding.
I love the T-120 Black. If I trade my KTM enduro bike, I’ll get one. ♥️🏍️
Heartening video and comments ❤
loving your videos.....
just wanted to say hi....
from Suffolk, England 👋
Hi!
"Triumph In The Sticks." (Just kidding...kidding both you and Steve.) I rode my GTS 60 miles yesterday...simply to meet some folks for lunch! Everything you said in this video I have found to be true as well. BTW -- you're a helluva writer. Many times, things written for the page do not read well aloud, and things written to be read aloud can suck on the page. I'm betting you're narration would read just as good on the page as it sounds in your vids. Carry on, Captain Spalding.
Thank you. I've still got a ways to go to remember what I learned about broadcast writing back in college, in the late 1800s.
In sept or oct I rode 50 miles each way for a slice of pizza. They were out of pizza and I got a flat on the way home. That was a day.
Make more of this brother. You give me so much positivity on this stuff you make. I watched it all and hungry for more!
Great video. Very well said
People just don't get it. Riding is honestly therapeutic. It is an experience every ride
Great video. I love your creative style. I did a similar video a year and a half ago - "Top 10 Reasons I Ride". Not near as creative as your video for sure. I also did a video more recently, "Don't Ride? Then You Won't Understand". Keep up the great videos, and ride safe!
Nice! I've always wanted to try a Spyder... Looks like a lot of fun.
Another fantastic video Bug and that road looks amazing, I was out tonight for a ride on the T120 but in Scotland our roads are in horrendous condition and can be like riding across a Toblerone!! Keep them coming and stay safe 👍🏻
" ... riding across a Toblerone..." That's HILLARIOUS!
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Another excellent vid! Thanks…Len
Thanks Len!
You really are the love child of Scooter in the Sticks! 😂
If he mated with who? That's the real question...
Lewis Black is my guess
Man i would love to see the introduction texts in a typewriter style or just a moving text then a tech one
Ps love the vdo ❤
Thanks for that. I agree, that's a good idea.
Hi Dan & All - I'm about to make my first bike purchase in 45 years. Nervous. What helmet to you use and would you recommend it? Thanks!
Yes. I recommend it very much. It's a Shoei RF-1400. This is one area where you don't want to save money! Get the absolute best you can afford.
If I were to buy a new helmet tomorrow, I'd look at the Shoei Neotec 3. It's modular, so the whole front flips up so you can have a drink or water, or a snack, or whatever and not have to take your helmet off. It's more expensive than mine, so might not be worth it. Either way, I've just found Shoei stuff to be high quality and a good fit.
@@BugMotoChannel Thanks!
This must be a cultural thing, but here in the UK nobody stops to ask if I'm okay when I'm pulled over :(
