How about using a capt'n hook tip for a RV?
Yeah I think those are great, I just never owned one but have heard good things from people who do 👍
Somehow I missed this video . I absolutely suck at making flares , probably cause I haven't had to make any for years now but still I need to work on getting good at it . Again the flaring tools we get here most of 'em aren't anywhere near the one you've got , it's just the basic regular ones that either don't grip the pipe well enough and slip , or grip too hard and you end up damaging the pipe ...
Yeah man I feel for you all across the pond! Are you able to get Ridgid tools. If so I love their double flaring set (got a video on it too). You may be interesting in going the double flare route...I find the overall process can help with some of the issues you mention. Flares are just all around tough to make I think!
@HVACLife There are some Rigid stuff but mainly power tools , I'll try to find it still , cheers mate .
Bloody good repair mate 👍 The trick for sanding the inside surface with the drill is awesome, never thought of that !
Thanks buddy! How's things been going across the ol pond? You all busy this time of year or does it slow down a bit from the summer chaos?
@HVACLife Usually December is quite busy because they have to catch up with all the jobs they've been delaying and pushing back 😆
Hahaha true! Man why do the gears never stop turning?
So I got a new reversing valve from trane supply for a 3 ton system, it was normally in cooling position is this normal ? I could see the light through holes from line going to condenser to discharge which means it was in cool mode, do you have to manually elenergize or work this valve to put it in normal position ?
Trane RVs along with most other brands are in cooling mode if 24V is supplied to the solenoid. Ameristar (a Trane brand), Rheem/Rhudd, and another one that escaped me right now are in heat mode if there is 24V supplied to the coil. The reason most other valves aren't this way is because it's common for HVAC systems to fail and default to heat mode rather than cooling mode (ie broken orange wire make the system still capable of heat). Hope that helps!
So…. First of all THANK YOU! Yes I was pulling my hair out… Second, I am SOOOOOO sorry to tell you that after hours of troubleshooting and trying to figure out the PIN from a total lockout… I’ve realized that the actual date code is…. The first part of the damn serial number on the back!!!! 😡
Awesome glad it helped and thanks for posting that last bit 👍💯
This guys a real pro and is to be commended for sharing
I can’t find the shorter filet knife on the website. What model is this do you know?
I think it’s a Rapala 4" Fish'n Fillet Knife 👍
Isn't that just a bent 'paperclip'?
T pins are sharper and have a better temper (more rigid) 👍
When I first started helping with repairs & overhauls I was taught to throw a pressure relief on our 600 lb tanks once I switched to pulling vapor. Never thought much more about letting it vent inside the mechanical room. Sure I knew inhaling refrigerant is bad, but it wasn’t until a few years down the road I started working under a new guy I was told about how bad 123 was to breathe. He showed me all the stuff trane wrote up about it, how you’re supposed to wear masks and stuff, etc. He even told me that the local carrier shop was paying guys hazard pay to work around it….honestly frustrated me how none of the people I used to work with even mentioned it to me, let alone had me staging every machine by myself until it was time for them to come in and have me help.
Man that’s really unfortunate! Hopefully you can start educating those around you, so can learn that the easy way 👍
Is it 1/4 in bits work in it?
Yes that’s correct…1/4” hex bits 👍
alot of hard leaned concepts explained well here.
Thank you!
I have a hi delta I am stuck on. Has call for heat Blower kicks on Blower indicator lights do not active** However the HSI will prove Gas valve one receives 24v for maybe 1-2sec then ignition process recycles until unit goes into soft lockout I went though it and the ladder trouble shooting guide says replace fan but before I buy one I want to really make sure that’s the issue. Any recommendations on other components to check?
It was a bit hard to follow what you wrote there, but sounds like it isn’t sensing flame. 🔥
What's your opinion three years later?
Love it…it’s the only stuff I use 👍
Incredible. I went to the hardware store asking for a tool to do it. But it didnt exist
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Great video thank you
Very welcome
This was so so very helpful! A visiting friend decided to change the room temp and inadvertently put the thermostat into a "scheduled" mode. I prefer to set temps manually. Could not figure out how to change it because I lacked the PIN. Your video was the saving grace. Worked like a charm. That calculated PIN is now on a label affixed to the thermostat. Never again!
I'm glad it helped! Great idea to label it! 😊
Great info dude, now I gotta go destroy a pair of crimpers lol, lucky I have several of them , thanks for the help 😊
Thanks!
Great video and great ideas
More videos like this please 🤓
Great stuff bubba 👍
Thanks 😊
I have used a sweat-in service access valve stub and inserted it through a pre-drilled wine cork. Goes straight onto my manifold hoses w/ball valves and I just use whatever gas is in there to blow out drain lines. The benefit of that tool is the cork passes through tee fittings and seals into the 3/4 pipe.
Nice! I like it! 👍
I'm a caretaker for an empty house 150 miles away with a Lennox heat pump and I can only go there and caretake about once every couple of months. Last week, house was not hot or cold, about 72 degrees and thermostat was set to 75 on cool. Changing it for winter so I switched from COOL to OFF and moved the thermostat to about 63, then switched to HEAT. I didn't hear the reversing valve moving like I have before when I have switched it between seasons but I never paid much attention to the house temp at those times so maybe before, it was not in a sweet spot between 75 and 63 and the unit reacted. Does the RV only move when the thermostat calls for heat (or cool) the first time? Or, should I have heard the RV move as soon as I switched the switch even though it wasn't cold enough to call for heat? I've checked the power company KW usage online and it is using more power when it gets a little cold there ( about 41 degrees) and less when it is warmer, so something is happening. I am worried though that the RV might be either stuck or the solenoid is OL and the unit is not working and is just heating with the emergency heat strips. I either need to relax and assume it is heating normally, or otherwise I need to arrange to meet an HVAC tech there. Anyone got advice? I already have enough to worry about.
It’s hard to know for sure, but if it was stuck in cooling I’d expect the power bill to be very high. The RV normally doesn’t make noise unless it switches while the unit is running. Some stats also hold the RV in cool mode until the stat makes it first call for heat after being placed in heat mode. What you experienced does sound unusual to me 👍
You could crimp some copper PEX rings over top of the brass ones, just so it can't crack. The brass ferrules are available in a longer version too.
Nice I didn’t know they make another version 👍
Something to consider with long nitrogen leak test is temperature. Pressure will drop when temperature drops.
Right on! 👍
Magnets....I hate those bakets. I curse engineers everytime. Thank you for that.
Yeah man glad it helped!
Very cool, great info. Surprised you didn't make a small regulator for the gallo gun...
I know right?! Maybe for the next one! 😄
I need help with raypak h9 boiler please let me know I'm in the NJ thanks
What’s the situation?
Love the kit and all the mods. What sawblade do you use for the hand saw?
Thanks! That was a Milwaukee brand folding saw that takes sawzall blades 👍
Unreal that we get all that hard earned experience from you for free , thank you so much Josh 🤜🤛
Thanks brother I appreciate those kind words!
Exactly. Some of These tool reviews are silly people that really aren’t experienced Tradesmen and they shouldn’t be acting like Experts.
Right 👍💯
Great video😊
Thank you I appreciate that 😁
2 years later and it still works great
👍💯
that was great, thank you
You're welcome! Glad it helped! 😊
That phase 3 test kit is nice. Used it many times. Those quik checks are not that good. I believe its just litmus paper
Agreed 👍
I use a brazed plate HX as my subcooler. Its especially good when you have an operating chiller. 44° water will cool it down nicely
Great idea! 👍💯
Satisfying repair!
Pretty much modern fitting are not strong
👌 very nice
Thank you :)
How's work been going for ya lately?
Great job boss, thank you for breaking down the process. 🫡
You’re welcome 😊👍
thanks
No problem! 👍
Should have had the ball valve located closer to the main line especially when considering the torque being applied when swinging that ball valve. Hope you made the repair correctly. There was no need to bring that gauge out that far from the main line.
Good points! Thanks for commenting! The problem is that a big gauge like that needs A LOT of clearance to get screwed in. Yes it's excessive but the installers were using pre-sized nipples instead of cutting their own...there are better designs out there but that's a typical install and they honestly hold up pretty good. The real problem is weak female fittings.
@@HVACLifeIt was over tightened because they didn’t want the gauge to spin and hang upside down. I would agree that a better quality coupling is more forgiving in a poor installation. BTW, the initial wide shot of that entire system reveals multiple “ticking time bombs”.
Suuuuuuure probably dickin around
That's an amazing idea
Thank you! I appreciate that comment :)
That's what she said 😂😂😂
Hahaha YES!
Don’t you just love it when you want to fix something so simple and it just turns into a mess in an instant!! Ah, the joys of doing maintenance!!
That about sums it up lol!
Can we get a tour of that mechanical room
Great idea 👍💯
Boss : yeah just a quick PM and then call me back cause we need you elsewhere afterwards yeah ?😂
Typical right 😂
At least this didn’t happen on a Friday 3:30 PM 😂
Oh man don’t jinx it hahaha
Glycol ?
Thankfully it is not!
I've had a lot of problems with Chinese brass splitting.
Yeah they’re horrible aren’t they!
