Burn out is a real thing, and we all go through it a time or 10. I'm in a mild case of it right now. The last 2 days....I've had 25 hours of OT. After 25 years of this, I can recognize it, accept it....and know it will pass.
Having someone to unload some of the “weight” onto. My best friend is an elevator mechanic in nyc. We bitch to each other because we both can relate, but neither of us can do the others job so we also don’t say “well you should have done this or that instead”. Just vent it out and jet it go. Like a relief valve.
I burned myself out on install in residential. Part of it was my fault not dealing with the stress, but a lot of these companies expect everything to go easy in 1 day. Moved into commercial service I like it better. Kind of some darks times at my company now. Sick of going behind other techs that don't do pms right and senior techs that are just lazy. Dispatch just goes to the same techs over and over for all the calls. Seems like you show any potential in this trade and they dump so much on you its tough. Been looking around for another job just trying to learn more and more. It's tough when you get screwed over on the daily. I try not to sweat the small things as much anymore. If a call takes 4 hours then it is what it is. I've been "given" 2 massive accounts PM takes hundreds of hours and no help at all.
Dang man that’s rough and also highlights a big management issue. Companies need to be careful…a lot of good techs get burnt out because the company relies too heavily on their ability to carry weight.
@@HVACLife Exactly, I feel like our management has been too relaxed/overburdened and people have been getting away with way too much for too long. I'm still going to keep trying to learn as much as I can before I find another job. My area is pretty slow right now so its not looking to promising.
I don't blame them for getting meaner. The equipment is crap and about double in price and they have good reason to be pissed when it fails early in its life cycle.
