You can see the information interpreted from the FG pin in action if the unit has a restricted return, as when you remove a panel after the restriction, the static pressure changes and the fan slows down, which the IDU PCB then notices this and speeds the fan back up to compensate.
I will add on that some models have a separate PCB that the fan motors plug into, and those have a fuse on them. One of the B8 units where I worked had a CH10 error code, and when it would start, the fan motors would only try to run for ~3 seconds and cut off, immediately displaying the CH10 error. A bad fuse was the cause of it.
