I played this and reviewed it... I would have given it a totally different review had I known it was developed in the 90s. Holy smokes, that honestly makes a huge difference in how I think about it!

as a walter main, i didnt know that he's a challenge character walter should not rely on his slingshot, but if you want to get a beefalo as a companion the dog is good for early exploration slingshot i found it useful by just killing rabbits, just stand on the hole of a rabbit and ctrl f them tamo is useless so better get those stories in the middle of the woods

hmmn i disagree with this first of its wendy not windy and surprised that you put her as a solo player

I honestly quite appreciate Quacken being easy, if you don't know what you're doing the fight is hellishly hectic and a pretty fun surprise to an otherwise dull task, being Trawling, but once you do know what you're doing, you can rush to do Quacken earlier and earlier with less resources for its good loot pool, it's especially a good shake up to DS' fairly repetitive combat

Woodie has regeneration when he fights, just kite once in a while. Getting hit to a comfortable point ant tanking some damage is optimal because of it

Honestly - controversial opinion incoming - but in my humble opinion - The Screecher - is THE WAY don't starve should've gone into. Not exactly in the og Don't Starve, but a sequel? Sure! Because when you put into consideration all the whispers, all the creepy ambient sounds and shadows lurking in the darkness - Don't Starve, at least in the beginning - is horror-ish or at least gives off that vibe - when you lack any sort of a knowledge to the game. Because once the night falls - you're all of a sudden surrounded by the abyssal darkness. No more is there a jolly music accompanying you, no longer you feel safe - you feel surrounded, caged and lost. At least - those were the vibes I personally got out of game during the first few nights all those years ago when the game was still in Beta versions haha. But either way... The Screecher has it all really - the Don't Starve hand-drawn artstyle; recognizable features and markings; familiar setting. But it all gets so much more terrifying, when all you got - is you - against pitch black darkness of the night. You do not know where to go, what to do or hells, what your objective even is. There is no Fancy Pants popping out of a ground to humble you, there is no directions, there is no jolly music. Everything around you - is a danger. When even the darkness itself has eyes to perceive you with. And somewhere, just somewhere out there - there is The Screecher. A being of unknown origin, with obvious links to humans, yet still being so distant away from them. This is haunting and horrific. And if that would've been developed upon and turned into proper horror survival - I think it would've been a great sequel or a continuation of Don't Starve as a whole. Because lets face it - the further DS/DST goes into development - the more it looses its connection with horror. It never was EXACTLY connected to it, sure, but there were seeds of something far more sinister within that tiny lil silly game about survival. But now? Everything is just a adorable lil cartoon with a bit of lore hidden throughout those character shorts. And... It is good! Do not get me wrong, I adore that. But I personally think - that with such simple, cartoony, yet memorable art style - they could've gotten away with a very grotesque and haunting horror scenes and creatures, like Screecher itself. The first time I saw it - I was haunted by its visual for weeks really, fearing to look into forests at nights, in unreasonable fear - that maybe, just maybe, behind one of those trees there would be a terrifying amalgamation of human and owl, with nothing but deafening silence to accompany its gaze.
