2:31 Honestly, idk what John Williams did there, but somehow he made magic. I probably would say that so short fragment, until 3:03 is the piece of music that gets my feelings the most. I can't help it, I get so strong goosebumps that my skin on my arms is almost in a little pain. Wow just wow, specially combining it with the exact scene in which this fragment sounds. Just majestic.
I know what you mean. That moment hits my feelings hard. The thing I like about RotJ is that it so convincingly shines a new light on Darth Vader. He is no longer the evil and ruthless villain who betrayed the Jedi, he is Anakin Skywalker, a former Jedi who was helpless and turned to the Dark Side. His son tries desperately to save him in his sad and twisted state all while he has given up hope on himself. And this music, I think it brings a voice to the tragic state of Darth Vader, it makes us feel for Luke who is fighting his father because he too thinks he has lost and then there is the triumphant and wonderful moment where Vader finds the light in himself and saves Luke.
Somehow this scene brings me back to the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in the prequels(I know they're pretty bad). While that fight is 90% unnecessary stunts it still has it's redeeming moment in the sense that it is a tragedy, Obi Wan lost Anakin and the person who stands in his place is not him. In RotJ it's the other way around, Vader is finally becoming the Jedi he once was. Anyhow, I'm not sure if I translated the feels to words as well as John Williams did to music. Star Wars is full of those moments that just can't be put into words and just have to be experienced that's why I love it.

Totally agreed, I never realised, but I now see the name "The Return of the Jedi" in a different sense, as if George Lucas had it all in mind and the return of the Jedi is Vader returning to the light side. It's one of those things you have so integrated that you don't even think about them (the name of the movie I mean).
The lightsaber duels were one of the few redeeming things about the prequels, even if they don't stack up to much better duels in media (or hell, the lightsaber duels featured in the EU before and since), what made them was the music. Battle of Heroes conveyed the tragedy of Obi-Wan's fight with Anakin better than any dialogue Lucas could write.
I thought they were taking about Luke, cuz after episode 5, Luke retired for a year, then returned to war believing he is ready to be a complete Jedi

Can we all agree that the best part of Episode VI is the relationship between Luke and Darth Vader. To me, them together just makes the most memorable and touching scenes in the whole movie.

2:31 I can't help but think back over all the events that have led to that moment. The clone wars, The rise of the Empire, all leading that fatefull duel. Not only does this encapsulate the struggle that Luke faces fighting his own father, but also the struggle all the characters have had to face to get this far, to come this close to destroying the Sith.
Oh god, I love the part from 2:32 to 3:03. In my opinion, it really conveys the grief that both Vader and Luke are feeling in this scene, as they're both forced to fight one another, father and son, for the fate of the universe.
Is there a version of just that part?

This and battle of the heroes music are that saddest in the saga but amazing at the same time.
Battle of the heroes isnt really sad, its more to get you hyped up for the lightsaber fight. This one in Return of the Jedi, has alot more emotion to it.
From 2:31 you can hear that the music represents Darth Vaders struggle to decide between the dark and light side

It's hard to put into words what I'm thinking, but I like how it goes from very technical, very up-front sounding with the ships, and when it cuts to Luke and Darth Vader, it has a chorus, and sounds more like fantasy. It goes from straight up metal on metal to something more mystical -- representing all the elements of the conflict.
The entire thing gives me chills and that good will always win

I always loved the music when Luke turns on Vader and the way the camera slowly moves side ways with them

Only through sacrifice of many Jedi will the order cleanse the sin done to the nameless(The Great Jedi Purge). The danger of the past is not past but sleeps in an egg(The Emperor's theme). When the egg cracks(Execute Order 66), it will threaten the galaxy entire(The Imperial March). When the Force itself sickens(The Final Duel 2:31-3:09), past(Anakin/Vader) and future(Luke) must split(cut off each other's hands) and combine("I am a Jedi, like my father before me"). A Chosen One shall come, born of no father(Anakin returns) and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored(The Emperor's Death).

Look, I don't want to piss off any prequel lovers, if you like your movies, great! That's your opinion, but my opinion is right because I can't accept being wrong.
Notice how this is the final fight in the trilogy, where Luke loses it and completely destroys Vader. Notice how quiet, yet dark the theme from 2:32 - 3:12 is. It's operatic, yet subtle. It's beautiful. It's about as important as the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan is. You know, fall and redemption. Also notice how that fight has way LESS SUBTLE music, with huge operas, and loud exciting music. If it were me, I would choose the same music. Birth of Vader, return of Anakin. It's poetry. Also notice how much more epic the music is in something like the Phantom Menace where three dudes we know nothing about fight, between when our main hero confronts his father, in an attempt to redeem him, while trying not to fall to the Dark Side. It says a lot about the two trilogies.
But sorry if you like the prequels, just noticed it and wanted to get it off my chest.
