    Actually guys, Jjajangmyeon is Korean style chinese food. The origin of food is from china but we put some caramel and made it more sweet, that's the difference. Anyway this recipe is quite nice!

    I love that the Korean black bean paste package says Chinese black bean paste in English. I love seeing these little connections between different cuisines, proving that good food transcends borders and cultures. ;-)

    • @JH-ti3lr
      @JH-ti3lr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I noticed this, too. Thought it was funny that at the exact same moment he said to make sure it's Korean and not from anywhere else. Lol

    • @tatecheddar
      @tatecheddar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@JH-ti3lr I actually had to come back and watch the video because I wanted to buy this stuff off Amazon and I was confused it said Chinese in the description. Turns out it's totally Chinese and made in China despite having Korean written on the package, but it's the exact same stuff.

    • @peterwilliams7335
      @peterwilliams7335 2 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      @@tatecheddar what you are experiencing is not unusual. What he means the beans paste in the package is made with Korean recipe or Korean style even it is made in China. Jjajangmyeon (in Korean) is evolved from Zhajiangmian (simplified Chinese: 炸酱面; traditional Chinese: 炸醬麵; pinyin: Zhá jiàng miàn), literally "fried sauce noodles", commonly translated as "noodles served with fried bean sauce" which originates from Shandong province in China and is an iconic Northern Chinese dish. There are different variations of this well known classic noodle dish throughout Chinese provinces and Japan.

    • @peterlee9691
      @peterlee9691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      What he meant was that it needed Korean writing on the front from Korea for this specific dish, because other Chinese black bean paste might taste different. But the noodles you can use most anything.

    • @Qudths
      @Qudths 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@tatecheddar yeah, others have said, but while the paste itself has chinese origins, the chinese zhajiang tastes different than the korean jjiajang, which is why aaron says to get the korean 'chinese black bean paste', not the chinese 'chinese black bean paste'. the ones made in korea also taste different from the ones made in china.

    I have never made this like this. The key to this dish is the black bean sauce. I know your version is very good with the different ingredients, but it is not traditional. I always make Jjajangmyeon for my siblings, I introduced them to this dish and now it's a staple at my house, my sister even says it is her favorite food now. We have to have it at least once a week, even if its just the instant jjajang ramyun. I always make sure to add either pork belly or thick cut bacon, onions, and green onions to the instant version at the very least to make it even better. We also most of the time pair it with a good, fatty steak! It's just an incredible combo.

    I'd did tried this dish twice in a Korean restaurant here in the US (Tampa Florida) and it was awful. I love noodles but was turned off by the bitter taste of it. Yet, Claire said it has a sweet taste, I believe I need to make it your way Aaron to enjoy it as Claire obviously did.

      Also Jjamppong (Korean) -noodle soup, also evolved from the Chinese Chaomamian 炒码面. In Japan the noodle soup is called Chanpon. But both Jjajangmyeon and Jjamppong are considered to be Korean Chinese dishes.

      To be fair pretty much everything from Korea r originated from China if u read Asian history

      @@kkirlin07 Gunpowder and ball projectile cannons originated from China... but then when that arrived in the west.. they made more aerodynamic projectiles with rifling- which owned the crap out of Qing dynasty.
