  • I recommend leaving the UK in 2025. It's a very stressful place to live and I predict this is just the beginning. You only get one shot at life and I'm not spending it working for barely any money helping other people become millionaires.

Lobbyism, austerity politics and to a certain extent globalization (moving labor to other countries). It's the same across many western countries and not tied to "political party a or b" would've done different or better either. I say that coming from a german perspective growing up with the stereotype that our trains are timely and well organized. The train I take most is currently sitting at 60% chance for a delay greater than 5 min. But it's the same in health care, education etc. All going downhill.

That is not what happened. The far right is objectively bad, so of course anyone of sound mind and education would say no to their drivel, but those buggers are still on the rise because the masses (including you) are mentally deficient and don't care to learn or change their ways. You see a person different to you and freak out because you think anyone who isn't just like you is awful.
You can't extrapolate one person's behaviour onto everyone who looks like them because that makes no sense. Race doesn't determine behaviour, sexuality only determines if you like men or women, and you can't dismiss mental health issues or look down on people less able than you. The far right is about being hateful, reactionary, emotional, and exclusionary. There is no logic to your thought.

My 80 year old next door neighbour bought her house 50 years ago on a supermarket salary and had three kids. Financially she did better than me. I've nothing against people that work in supermarkets, but today in Bristol a supermarket worker has no chance to by the equivalent ex council house. Put another way, highly qualified professionals have a similar quality of life as someone who worked in a supermarket 50 years ago.

I am feeling the exact same way about the UK of late and if I were younger, I would be looking for ways to leave. But where to go? Europe, I think is fucked, because the main economy driving Europe, Germany is fucked. Not only have the German government been importing immigrants from 3rd world shitholes, guaranteeing the destruction of German culture a few decades down the line, but have also sacrificed Germany's economic prosperity, which relied on cheap Russian energy over the NATO proxy war in Ukraine. That is the true nail in the coffin, the consequences of which may take some time to materialise, but now that the deed is done, the deed is done. It is almost as though there are a small cabal of elites plotting the West's downfall in a controlled demolition style (I believe there is, and neither Putin nor Chairman Xi have any part in it). Seems to be an increasing amount of people intuitively feeling discontented with their future well being in the West, and for good reason.

Australia is pretty much the same…going down the toilet. I’ve seen TH-camrs who’ve moved to places like Thailand or Vietnam, where life is more affordable and chillaxed. Two of my sons took their lives at age 30 and 36 because they were so hopeless about life. One had just completed his medical residency and was about to start training as a neurologist in the local training hospital. The elder one had been a lawyer, hated the injustice, retrained in nursing and his debts for training were so high, he felt trapped. Both left the world. I totally understand how stupid life is becoming for each generation. Landlords own too much of the housing. There’s the multiple homeowner class, and those who pay ridiculous rents and will never own a home or pay off their education debts. Only my eldest survives. You’re totally right.

Hopelessness is their weapon, when we have no hope we don't fight, that's how they want us. That's why in poor countries with wars like mine, people try to make a life with little, clinging to hope. Hope and anger are the only things that can make this change. Don't let them take it away from you, it seems like nothing will change but change is already happening, people leaving the UK, you making this video and me watching it, writing this with the help of a translator. We're being taxed to hell and none of those taxes go to anything that actually benefits us, instead serving to enlarge the bloat and line the pockets of bureaucrats. Education is abysmal, public health services are abysmal, roads are abysmal - while we keep paying for them! - and our governments seem to be hell-bent on making our lives harder and harder, while telling us we have to put up with it and work harder. My husband is a head chef, we are a working family and still need to rely on government support to get through each month. New housing developments are being built in our local area (Devon UK) with a portion of them marked as 'affordable'. The 'affordable' homes in our area are priced at £480k ...there is something very wrong with this, the fact that most hardworking families aren't paid enough and need to rely on financial support from the government and with 'affordable' houses marked at those prices we will never be able to 'afford' to buy our own home. The irony!

I was a tenured professor in the UK for seven years. I have no savings, could not afford to go on holidays, could not afford to go out more than once or twice a month, and eventually had two work-related psychological breakdowns during the pandemic. All this, with a wage that was supposedly well above average. Your video deeply moved me, as it spoke so much to my own experience. I now live in Japan, have full funding to conduct my research, and have money to spare each month. The weather is wonderful, my colleagues are delightful, I have a replete social network and can afford to go spend my weekends in a pleasant manner. I genuinely feel like a completely different person, and recently noticed I no longer felt the need for my usual monthly psychotherapy. It’s horrible how long we kept the “stiff upper lip” and endured the hell-hole that is modern day Britain. Like you, I love my country, but the feeling is not reciprocal. It has abused me long enough, and I cannot be responsible for its existence. So long, Britannia!

If someone is telling you "your problems don't matter because other people have problems", that is an insult. They are putting you down. They are trying to teach you to put yourself down.
The fact that other people have problems, or whether those problems are worse than yours, is completely and utterly irrelevant to the problems you have, how you feel about them and what to do about them.
This notion exploits the proclivity of intelligent and far-sighted people to rationalize suffering, which they do better than anyone else. This notion is a rationalization but it is also misanthropic and fallacious.

True but that is how people who have problems deal with listening to other people who say they have problems. I don't think it is putting someone down necessarily. And on this comments section all i see on here is people reminding us all that most western economies are the same. If problems are exacerbated by poor economic or financial status then you have to start looking elsewhere for the solution. Looking elsewhere does not mean on the map it means examining whether your problem is as bad as you think it is.
When someone is saying leave country X because of problem X without reference to the fact that the same problem exists in the other countries it is well that someone reminds people that human misery exists worldwide. It really comes across as entitled when people expect to have a better standard of living than those born in the new country whilst at the same time complaining about how bad their conditions are in the country they are leaving. Hong Kong expats are a great example.

For too long, hey have all had to depend on their parents simply to tread water, much less get ahead, and it's not because any of them are lacking in intelligence or ambition. If our elites in government and business don't start acting responsibly very soon, there's going to be hell to pay. My mental health horrible, but I'm still working projects and I still want to improve myself and learn new skills. If I could receive SOME help from our government, who we pay A LOT of taxes, I could massively improve my life within a year and subsequently help grow the economy, but I'm stuck. I'm mentally ill, but not sick enough to receive help. Yet, I pay mandatory healthcare every month. I'm someone who could grow exponentially if I was given some encouragement, I'm educated, etc, but no one cares. And yeah there's nothing really wrong with me, the only way that I can describe it is that I also just feel stuck. It's crazy how we live in this system where people always assume that you can get the appropriate help, but it just doesn't seem that way to me. Last I checked the student psychologist is available once every two months or so. Going to therapy costs like 400 euros which is hard to afford. Meanwhile the only debt relief we get is like 2k which is a drop in a bucket and we don't even get in cash. I have no idea how I'm going to get a house and start a family with my financial situation. She died before she could claim her pension. I had to live with her to ensure she could live comfortably in a pleasant, otherwise she'd have to work herself to the bone to live in a hovel with no support.

As a Bulgarian who has been living here for 6 years and is now starting 7, I really almost decided that this will be my last. The quality of life does not seem to be better than in Bulgaria. All my friends who are in Bulgaria and work have gotten married, bought cars and houses and are enjoying life. Most people I know who are in good positions earn more than me. I am literally the only one who is still abroad. All the people I know have long since returned home. I have been working in a company for 5 years now full-time, I also work overtime and I am literally going broke. My electricity and water bills go up every month, my rent goes up every year, public transport goes up every year, the prices of some goods are already 3 times more expensive than in my country. Life here seems terrible, people are stressed, angry and without a smile on their faces. As I mentioned, the crime rate is extremely high - goods are being stolen from stores, people are being beaten up with knives, deaths are not at all rare. It literally looks like an action movie compared to quiet and peaceful Bulgaria. I feel pathetic and confused what the hell happened to UK.

Really enjoyed this talking-head style video. First of all I wish you best of luck and success in Hong Kong! I think you hit the nail on the head for many points.
    Passing comments:
Social media harming us - 100% agree, honestly, you need to completely disconnect from all of them simultaneously to realise just how addicting those apps are. Not just the act of scrolling through the algorigthm but also FOMO as realistically all our mates are on some social media, even if it's just like missing memes they send you it can be vicious at first. We don't help ourselves there.
Weather - it's crazy how British weather does have an effect on us, be it consciously or sub-concsiously. Unfortunately it's depressing, but it's out of our control, and that's why I always try to get to any sunshine I see haha. But fr if we had Spanish weather in the UK we might've actually been unstoppable so I guess they had to nerf us.
Other - I'm 23 and still live with my family. You're bang-on that for young people it feels sh*t not being able to afford a basic living, let alone get your own place, or car, or whatever it may be in a person's scenario. I think some credence lies with our parents' generation, always hearing "I moved out at 18" or "I did this and this by the time I was your age" when we grew up, I don't think any of them realised just how much the times would change and so rapidly. But the blame really lies with the governments, frankly on both sides, as it feels neither really put the *people* first. I could go on and on but we've heard it all already. Needless to say I try to just take the small victories in life at this point, because it is my life and mine alone; if I enjoy my job then great; if I have a roof over my head that's all I need; as long as I'm safe then I'm OK. I am just grateful to have some family and some semblence of a career to lean on, I know there's so so many of us that don't even have that, I just pray for them. It hurts seeing my countrymen and women hurting, frankly via circumstances which are no fault of their own.
There is so much more I could say, but I will be here all evening. Honestly very nice video.

It's a nightmare in the NHS. Like you say, you're either too sick for treatment or not sick enough. And even if you get on a waiting list you have to hope that you make it that long.
I think the UK and the NHS need a massive change or upheaval for anything to change.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn: For us in Russia, communism is a dead dog, while, for many people in the West, it is still a living lion.
It’s not the rich keeping you down, that’s a lie that has become a pillar of the state! I have heard of some good old woman in a cottage who had nothing but a piece of bread and a little water. Lifting up her hands she said as a blessing, “What! All this and Christ too?"
      Charles Spurgeon.
I’d say most of us in the West would struggle to understand the old woman these days because we are consummate consumers, whether it’s food, sex, entertainment, approval or information, even the UK’s main wealth is based on consumption rather than meaning and innovation, unlike in the past. Time honored traditional works like metallurgy, masonry, mechanical and energy production with quality standards like in the past.

All of my friends are struggling, save for a few with extremely lucrative jobs and were blessed to have those. It's upsetting. I feel lied to daily and I have to disassociate just to enjoy my day to day. People say mental health doesn't matter, but we are literally your canaries in the coal mine. @@joaosantos-uj9uw If I had a Penny for every communist who said, “that’s not communism” I’d be a rich woman! Let’s break down the main concept of communism, I am subordinate to the mathematical concept - group. What is group? The trick is in the mind… ‘Group’ is abstract. You can see an individual, you can touch them, without the brain to conceive what a group is, it doesn’t exist, you cannot touch group but you can touch individuals who make up the group. You can’t see the forest for the trees… Forest is a concept to describe lots of individual trees but you cannot pick up forest or hug forest but you can hug a tree! So if I am subordinate to a mathematical concept you deny my right to exist, you open up the condition where by tyrants masked with good intentions can come along and say - I represent the group! That group good! That group bad! It attracts resentful angry people who delude themselves into thinking they are righteous. What it always leads to in the end is death and destruction. I know in theory it sounds utopian but in practice it’s leads to the worst in humanity, it’s doesn’t create anything but misery. The reason the West used to privilege the individual is our ancestors figured out you can fractionate right down to the individual - at the end of the day the smallest minority is the individual. Sadly, we have too many communists in our cultural and education sectors and one easy example is language, in the past individualism used to mean, self responsibility, now it means selfishness.

Come to America. In the US you will be adored. People think every accent is sophisticated. So long as you avoid New York, DC and California, you will be fine. Multiple two-bedroom apartment rent is $950 per month in Chicago a short drive or mid-range subway to work downtown.
You can get a masters and then work for three years trying to get a visa or a spouse. You will get a better spouse here than in the UK.
Texas and Florida are booming. Chicago is a decent city. New Orleans is very cool. There are intermediate cities with a lot of character (Savannah, Nashville, Memphis, Madison, Bangor, Hartford,…), but the big deal is that you can buy a house easily and everyone will love you.
But stay away from big costal cities and the entire west coast. They are as bad as London for housing prices. There are like 40+ states are fine.
We have immigrants here, but excluding the last few years, the immigrants work. You can easily avoid most crime by avoiding drug markets and shady neighborhoods (which in California and NYC are also expensive???). The murders are almost entirely thugs shooting each other.
The only down side is that social services are not there, so you are on your own, but from what this woman is saying, the UK is already there, only with high taxes to pay for the local Islamic grooming services.

While desire anticipates pleasure, hope anticipates something better than pleasure. It anticipates the good that follows struggle that precedes the good. Hope without faith is wishful thinking. Hope with faith is confident assurance. Faith is the assurance for hope.
When we replace our motivation of willful self-gratification with willing faith, the soul aquires something better than getting what it wants when it wants how it wants. The soul acquires God's grace to finish to its good end despite the exertions or struggles to get there. God's grace is sufficient was the answer to Paul's prayer. God's grace is His love. Our love without faith is passing affection. Love with faith is lasting fidelity. Hope without faith is wishful thinking. Hope with faith is confident assurance. These three are the spiritual virtues.
The other virtues are edified by faith. Courage without faith is false bravado. Courage with faith is fortitude. Self-denial without faith regrets loss of pleasure or immediate gratification. Temperance with faith is a virtue waiting for something better, delayed satisfaction. Prudence without faith advises to cut your losses and give up early in the race. Prudence with faith advises to finish the race where an imperishable crown awaits surpassing your losses. While running the race, wisdom keeps you on the straight virtuous path avoiding the vices on either extreme, but the eyes of faith see the narrow gate ahead which is too far to see without them. Beyond the golden gate is more of God's charity which in the form of His grace has been moving you along already.
Faith, hope, and charity make a three corded rope not easily broken, binding the soul to her first love. Faith in Christ who is faithful, hope inspired by the Spirit, and love of the Father make the trinity of the spiritual virtues.

The people in London were okay, but everyone felt very superficial. The nature there was practically non-existent. Parks were neglected, and migrant areas were full of trash and shouting/noice. It’s immigration, which has significantly impacted wages. As a general rule, the larger the labor force the lower the wages.

Although i get the idea of that, i still can't see the country being the same as regards industrial output and technological achievement, as well as maintaining the general level of civilization. The natives of the UK may well become replaced, but what sort of place will it become ?

I'm sorry that so many are in this situation. I consider myself fortunate, today. I am living in the USA NJ. Some collage , retired. I worked hard, sometimes two jobs, always overtime. I blindly funded my 401k and brokerage accounts. As far as work, look around see who is making money, ask what they are doing, try to get in. Eventually something will happen.
mental health? I studied on my own fixed myself, sort of. I had alcoholism, went to A.A. , only costs a dollar. Denial can go a long way.
Life is hard, not fair, not easy.

I also gave up on idea to have a family. I'm 38 years old and I always wanted it. During covid I realized how powerful evil is nowdays and there is no place to run away from it. I wish world felt like during 90s.
