  • Welcome to Episode 13 of the GCLR. A little different take of things this time, where we see the track being improved. We meet a new character, Harold Elliot, the Chief Inspector, we even get a feline incursion!
Having a railway outside in the garden, brings its own challenges as we have seen previously, with vegetation, and the pigeons! but also the ground naturally moves with weather. I have one section thats been niggling for a while now, and it was time to give that section some TLC. The pigeons I have learnt like to sit on the track with the ballast (gravel) and have a rest and so disturbing the ballast!
We experience Swedish Fika, with some good coffee and swedish vanilla biscuits, with Harold Jonesy, Alf and myself, it was really nice, and something we will do again.
    Swedish Fika
It's deeply ingrained in Swedish culture. Most Swedes have fika several times a day, whether it is at the weekend or during the business week. The history of fika is associated with the spread of "kaffe och kaka". This is how the expression "coffee and cookies" sounds in Swedish.
I do hope you like the unfolding story of the GCLR

Thank You, that is a appreciated, they have worked hard, the railway runs better over that section now, and the General Manager treated them all to an Ice Cream, White Magnums of course.

I really like that leveling rig... Need to set up something like that for my own railway!

Thanks, I used a Bullseye Bubble spirit level from that ever so famous online retailer, and attached to a flat wagon, it helps just see how track is aligned. Mine is far from perfect, but helped me iron out known trouble spots.

Looks great. Those circular spirit levels are really useful. I worked in Göteborg/Gothenburg for some years - I miss Fika!!

      Thanks Nigel,
Those levels are made for the job I reckon, perfect for garden railways. my track is far from perfect, but its helped work out the rough spots
I can see how you miss Fika, Its been a good many years since I last went to Göteburg, I was in Denmark a few weeks ago, and my train from Kobehavn was direct to Götenburg, but I was only popping over the bridge to Malmö
