Well in Muscle Museum the "guitar solo" is just him singing, but in Survival he sings the same notes of the guitar solo behind the actual guitar if that makes sense, makes it sound more sustained. You notice the effect of it but it took me a while to realise that was just his voice singing in the back XD
+Freddie Firth I can definitely see what you mean as in "Muscle Museum" Matt does sing the guitar solo through an amp that puts an effect on his voice and I can notice it in "Survival" too. Then again, I have the whole discography of this band and listened to pretty much all their stuff, all the time as I love this band.
i don't sure there are vocals in Survival over his 1st guitar solo... maybe on the second (begins on 3:07) there are an additional choir female vocals.
The Knights of Cydonia part was just great. I didn't know he was actually trying so hard to imitate the guitar. I just thought it was another amazing falsetto.
Gonzalo Lara Ah true, I forgot about that. Yeah, they've been playing a lot of songs down a semi-tone for a while now - namely Madness. Of course, as much as I miss his voice from back in the day, I'd rather he not ruin it (any further); plus, it's only inevitable.
GottaloveMuse1 I think we all know it's inevitable, but as fans we don't want that happens. Well, at least when I saw them here in my country, Matt reached very well the Citizen Erased' falsettos (I recorded it), so I can't even complain too much. Cheers!
It's midnight, I have headphones and this is all at once haunting, creepy, beautiful and such an amazing trip into the past with all these songs that I grew up loving. Thank you
When Matt sings "Fear and Panic in the air" on _Map of the Problematique_ he's referring to Mars's two moons (Phobos and Deimos),and the album artwork is set on Mars.
in a recent interview Matt said they had no idea how audiences would react to Knights of Cydonia, and that they were laughing their asses off in the studio. I didn't believe him until I heard those backing vocals isolated. Also, those timpani drums are underappreciated.
also there are other things I remember, like in City of Delusion there's an extra 'justify my reasons' beforehand. And in Eurasia Matt sings along the Egyptian piano riff, also singing with the piano outro
I've been a massive muse fan for as long as i can remember, i grew up with them, and yet there was things in this vid i had never heard before, well done
This is a great video. Even though you might have heard some (or most) of these in the original songs, it's great when these things get put in the center. Makes you appreciate the details more when you go back to the songs.
Thank you for this. I'm a new fan who was brought in via Simulation Theory (I'm sorry I'm late) and videos like this help me to find even more new stuff.
Aye. Nothing wrong with being late the more the merrier 😂 I didnt get into them until the end of The Resistance but everything ranging from the '97 Newton Abbot Demo to now all has something for me I hope all Muse fans really dive into their history and such cause my God. It makes the music 10x more special.
I've just now gone crazy! We all started together and I was in other bands from the start, so moving out, going to college, getting married etc. left me on and off over those years. I didn't fully get into them until The 2nd Law and Drones was my 1st concert! Somehow I lost time, but I'm back again..... Welcome! 🎵
I never noticed the De De De De De before! Ha! Also I really love hearing Chris on those backing vocals on the Showbiz tracks. He has a lovely voice as well. I think I read somewhere that Matt singing along to his guitar solos was something he picked up from Jimi Hendrix. I just really love that he leaves it in the mix a lot of the time, it makes it really entertaining to listen for him just squealing along.
I know the last chorus of Fury is famed among hardcore muse fans, and I agree, it always gives me chills. But I've noticed something else pretty subtle in the background of the choruses of Falling Away With You. I think it's in all the choruses but it's most noticeable in the last chorus. It sounds like a B4 falsetto dropping down to A4 a few times and then finally goes to C5 and to C#5 when he says "Falling Away". Then it drops down to C5 again before finally going up to a D5. I swear I hear it there every time, and I think it would be really cool to hear those isolated!
Brilliant work, very well spotted moments, I loved it ! There's truly no other band on earth with THAT MUCH attention about details in their songs ... Perfectionism at its finest !
Have you not heard You Make Me Feel LIke It’s Halloween on their latest albumWILL OF THE PEOPLE? It is so crammed with effort and detail you cant get to the bottom. Just read the comments on the video to read all the things people notice in the song. It’s so fun!
Melómano09 yeah but muse didn’t do stupid songs like bicycle and fucking Flash Gordon. Muse needs stadium anthem song for sports games like We will Rock you or We Are the Champions
The one in Supermassive really shocked me, I listen to that song at least three times a day and haveb't noticed yet. Bet I can't miss it from now on...
Some of these I didn't notice before like the assassin one or the whispering but the rest are genuinely some of my favourite things about those songs. The backing vocals on Fury, soldiers poem, stockholm syndrome are some of the best. great video. i'll try listening in the car in case my pc speakers are crap.
One thing you missed - If you listen EXTREMELY closely in showbiz (or listen to the official instrumental), in the second chorus Matt sings an octave lower quietly. He also sings this during the outro falsettos.
I always wondered what that little stabbing sound was before the chorus in assassin. I always thought it was a distorted rhodes keyboard or something, but isolated it very much sounds like vocoded vocals.
Wow! Every single thing they make is amazing I can’t believe how this guys are in that level of Edition well at the end they’re artists My respects for the band
I was listening to bliss and I swear there’s a high range synth in the harmony during the chorus, sounds like a powerful beam, felt like a powerful beam
The only ones I knew were the ones in Stockholm Syndrome, the first part of Knights of Cydonia, Butterflies & Hurricanes (but not the vocoder), Thoughts of a Dying Atheist and Apocalypse Please. So, great job!
I've adapted this style as a mix engineer and tend to put hidden things in my mixes that are hard to notice at first but augment the track. & I've started to gain a reputation doing so and is requested quite a lot when I record and mix a song for an artist. So thank you Muse for inspiring ideas for my business
great video, i know that there are a hidden melllotron in muscle museum and in unintended. also, in the end of muscle museum there are a piano playing the guitar melody or the high notes in the intro of cave, and octaves voices in the chorus of uprising, united states de eurasia, unnatural selection, dig down, etc in the end of united states de eurasia chris sings in backing vocals with matt i can remember it, great job!
Quite amazing that I, someone who says Muse is my third favorite band, could identify only three of these from the original tracks. It was also quite fun hearing these then going back to the original songs and trying to find them.
Why do they even need guitars in Knights of Cydonia when Matt has the same range as the instrument

I never quite knew, when I was younger, if it was guitar or his voice for certain parts
whispering Chris in undisclosed desires always freaked me out
Wow I can relate so much
Sounds a lot like Matt's inflection, I'd say it was just Matt doing another take. Doesn't strike me as the sort of thing Chris would do
I always thought is was Matt, but either way it's probably my favourite detail about the song.
Yeah that whole song sounds like a demonic ritual but that's kind of the point.
Its quite clearly Matt, not Chris...
In Survival Matt sings all the guitar solos too. Hard to notice but it's pretty awesome
YEEES! I noticed that, so awesome!
I can't remember but doesn't he also do this on "Muscle Museum" back on Showbiz.
Well in Muscle Museum the "guitar solo" is just him singing, but in Survival he sings the same notes of the guitar solo behind the actual guitar if that makes sense, makes it sound more sustained. Alan Ramirez because of this (that he still did until the end of T2L tour), Matt screwed his ability to make high notes. Sadly.
Gonzalo Lara Nah, he hit Showbiz's note recently.
GottaloveMuse1 at the show by request? It was a semi-tone lower, the same thing happened with a lot of songs, sadly, with Muscle Museum too :(
Gonzalo Lara Ah true, I forgot about that. Yeah, they've been playing a lot of songs down a semi-tone for a while now - namely Madness. Of course, as much as I miss his voice from back in the day, I'd rather he not ruin it (any further); plus, it's only inevitable.

Yulia Bellamy give me chills💙💙💙 saw them for the first time last weekend. I can die now ;)
Stacy Stroker I also thought that I can die after their gig, but in reality I want to live to see them again and again😄

Glaciers melting in the de de de de de
Not surprised at all, this kind of details is exactly what brought me into Muse in the first place.
Matt said in an interview that they were laughing their head off recording Knights Of Cydonia, now i know why
Chris' Vocals
Fuck, Chris' parts in Sober and Overdue sound so amazing alone
also there are other things I remember, like in City of Delusion there's an extra 'justify my reasons' beforehand. And in Eurasia Matt sings along the Egyptian piano riff, also singing with the piano outro

The Darkshines track sounds like clean guitar to me.
I think that there's a slide at 3:25 so yeah, definitely a guitar.
There's a piano in the chorus
It sounds like a piano during the bridge, although it still may be the clean guitar
Starjukker You need better headphones men

Thanks, a lot of work was done to put this all together. I personally like to listen to songs' stems for this reason.
@11:40 are you kidding me? That was the most obvious and favorite part of the song for me
I would always look towards that part
Finally I've heard that "te-de-de-de-de" clearly!
Lovely compilation of some of the many complex layers of vocals, music, effects , etc. Muse pours the WORK into making epic songs and it pays !
the robotic voice from undisclosed desires also was sung by chris, with a Solid Bb2
This is one of the many reasons why muse is so great!
They transcend space and time with their music, its insane
I think it should be “DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD” continuing the “glaciers melting in the dead...”
A lot of this stuff I noticed. But I never noticed the piano on sunburn. It's really nice to hear those little sweet bits isolated too.

4:08 OMG, I absolutely love the the backing vocal harmonies of Assassin. I could listen to this all.
i've always loved hearing chris's backing vocals in sober, it's nice to hear it better here
The Overdue backing vocals are pure britpop!
OTOH the In Your World backing guitar is perfectly on time, albeit syncopated.

I love the synth arpeggio in SS

And this is exactly why I love Muse

The vhisper vocals in Undisclosed Desires are beetter hearable via the THe Resistance 5.1 mix in it you can hear that its all matt.
