The best Waifu in the Armored Core series and my favorite character in the series. I love her character growth in the game and her changing views on the protagonist depending on the path. She goes from seeing him as just another student to either respecting him as a hero and a soldier in the League path to her bittersweet but still respectful attitude in ORCA, to her utter disdain and anger at her failed student in the destruction path. She clearly does have strong morals and cares a lot about the people on the Cradles. In ORCA she hates what you’re doing but still understands why and still stays with you. But in the Destruction path she is clearly disappointed that your training has lead you to become this. She has by far the most depth of Any AC character, not a great accomplishment, but man, I cared so much about her by the end. In short, Kasumi is awesome, if I was Strayed I’d marry her.
Remember that she was the very first to complement you actions and caring for your decisions like attacking head on is suicidal and must stick back and observe bigger enemiess while they attack you, she always gives you advice and warns that any bad action you take wil affect many(including herself) about your choice.....good wife, good teacher and mentor and true companion.
im rather partial to Magnolia Curtis. you can really feel her getting into it as you grow stronger and more competent but unfortunately, you aren't as close to her as Fatman and this cant really influences her choices beyond being the object of her obsession. in the end stripped of virtually everything you need to put her down twice as hard only to learn they might not have even been any of "Her" left to truly grieve over. i would've gladly taken the path of saving her even if i had to go through hyper boss bullshit
I get the feeling she was one of those soldiers who quickly became disillusioned with everything after the national dismemberment war. I bet that's why the simulation is so crap for someone her rank, during the recording she just didn't try.
I have a feeling she purposely retired because, like you said, she was disillusioned after the ND War. But also, based on her dialogue in Defend/Destroy Cradle 03, she is tired of seeing innocents die. My guess is that her last mission served as a final straw. In that mission, while she fights against several enemies, she's also forced to watch innocent people get caught in the crossfire and die. Disgusted by all of this, she retired.

Which is a main heroine of the love comedy world muv luv extra. Then, as the protagonist transferred into another world of mecha vs alien. The protagonist realize everyone in the world is the same as his previous world with an exception. There is no sumika. She has been replaced with a strange girl named. kasumi (Which spawn the early theory in the plot that kasumi is sumika) Then they did alternative 4 and pilot the huge mt. So the theory is that. Muv luv references armored core Sumika, then armored core refereced Sumika and kasumi. Which was pretty neat.
2:25 "Most will find the battle with her and her Next to be very average." I have found this to be true with a few of the top-ranking Originals, they're described as being these unrivaled pilots, but when you actually battle them in the simulator they're relatively easy to beat...

Oh there is plenty of room for a players own thoughts and lore ideas. And yeah i can see it, mind you the last time i played metal gear was years ago.
That also explains the training Next, all this time I didn't know I was training with Kasumi who's also my operator.
You were and in the lore's case it no wonder then staryed was about to perform at a higher level then most with a skilled lynx as a training partner.

It is my personal headcanon that the test next in ACfA is actually her next from AC4. Maybe she is even piloting it in the simulation.
If it makes you happy i say roll with it, besides its very possible strayed was trained by Kasumi so I'd say its a good head cannon.
