I have red spring wheat grass in a (1 inch tray 1020) . There aren’t any holes in the bottom of this tray the grass stopped at about 2 inches . I have one T5 light 12 inches above it . Grass looks like it isn’t flourishing. Where did I mess up ? Also had a fan circulation. I have been watering from a spray bottle and also added water on top in the corners

I use the aluminum roasting pans you buy at the grocery store. I poke holes in the top one and put gravel in the bottom one so that the water is not standing on the roots, but is still available for the plants. They are going to be a lot deeper than you may want, but they are durable and they are not plastic.

Nice concise video. Those flats are great! I've also found a good alternative to soil is hemp fibre mats from terrafibre. Perhaps slightly more expensive but completely eliminates soil mess and water retention is fantastic. Also another great organic bulk seed supplier is mumms in BC, free shipping on orders over $25 in Canada and $50 USA.

So Im impressed with your explanation soil method that you are using. You said its important to sift the soil so that you have fine grains. Others said use Organik because it has the nutrients and its more organic with means you can produce a great crop according to them.
So its their a compromise? Have you tried the more expensive soil and saw no difference in production?

I am no authority, but I have heard on Donnie Green’s channel that sunflower seeds are hard to get right. The cheap ones tend to have the hulls hang on so tightly that the micro greens are damaged getting them off. Most of the successful microgreens growers I have followed order the large black oil sunflower seeds from Italy.

I used to grow all kinds of greens in simple trays from a restaurant supply store. It eliminated this problem before I ever knew it was one. But it doesn’t work so well for bottom watering. Soooo, there’s that.
