I just ignored rule no. 1 and mixed potting soil with the coconut coir and ruined my pea shoots microgreens! it was covered in mold, now I know the reason thank you so much Jag! you are the reason I have started growing microgreens at home!
This was an awesome video. You broke it down to the most basic needs! You stayed to the point and described everything very clearly. I'm quite confident that you could show this to an 8 year old, they would be able to successfully grow some micro greens. Bravo. You put a lot of work into your videos. Now to grow some micro greens!!!!!!!!!!!
Some good ideas. Ive had mold a couple times now. So cut back on the water. Only every other day and spray ..... Maybe only 3 days of darkness and put into the light. Airflow I could try too.
Great Tips 👍 Though, I've been growing microgreens in potting soil and also universal substrate and I've never had a problem with mould. You will get mould on everything if you overwater it, even on coconut coir. The aeration tip is the key 🙂 Thank you for very informative content
Oh yay...Jag you're back. Nice to hear from you again. Another great vid, love microgreens and been wanting to start growing. Hope the farm is going well for you. Im guessing it has been and you're super busy hence long time between vids. Stay safe and healthy. 🙏👍🍃
@@JoyceHAnderson-rp5bf somebody in my neigborhood discarded a mason jar full of corn seed into the sidewalk, walking past that jar every day, the seeds grew over the week until they filled up the entire jar. So i guess it doesn't take much to grow really, just try to avoid bacterial infections and stay sanitized.
@@cannotbeshaken7889 I literally get a mason jar and some lids with holes and put the seeds in the jar for 24 hours. Then each day I pour water into the jar and then drain after about 1 minute. Repeat and rinse each day and the seedlings sprout.

good information. I have everything I need right here and now to grow greens using this method. Shall be doing this today. I started some last week in little trays lined with medium sized hydroton clay pebbles on a masterblend solution...just experimenting I'll also try the paper towel method ..never know until we try.....I do like the coco coir idea, just feel that the single use coir will become costly. Putting a weight on the trays...Ive not heard of that and best of all...the "why" we should. Totally makes sense. All in all, great info, love your explanation. cheers
Very informative video. A couple of questions: How long do they need to be under weight and in the dark? And if using a growing light, how many hours a day?
Thank you for this video. I have a question. What do you think of hemp mats in place of coconut coir? I have had great success with hemp mats that fit in 10 x 20 trays. But I have never tried coconut coir. Maybe the coconut is better? Maybe the coconut is less expensive? What is your opinion? And I am asking the readers here as well. Thank you!
👌😊...THANK YOU! I didn't know what I was doing when I started growing Wheatgrass with your Wheatgrass video 7 Months ago....then I started MIcrogreens using potting soil stinky, Now after this Vid I proudly sport COCO COIR!!!! noticed a difference immediately..
I have had success with microgreens thanks to your video, Jag! Regarding coco coir, once I am done harvesting the shoots, can I reuse it or should I compost it? I don't have a compost bin. Can I just put the used coco coir in my backyard/garden?
Thanks for the video! Great tips !!! Does anyone know how to solve the problem with small white flies that attack my micro greens, but without chemistry !! Thank you guys!
I wish I watched this video earlier, today I bought soil to grow my microgreens indoor. Nobody explained the possability of fungus growing from soil. thank you.
I don't understand the part about the pressure and darkness from the plant pot helping the roots grow, but you need light. That must be in sequence, but I didn't hear anything about when to switch.
Thanks Jag. ……good video. Am an “old” newbie! Never too late to learn something new. I like your voice…… easy, straight forward suggestions. Now…..out to get supplies. Blessing upon you…..stay safe.
great video, lots of useful tips. question: when do we remove the clay pot weights covering the seeds trying to sprout? i am looking forward to getting my microgreen game on.
Where do l buy coconut coir in the UK? I have been using paper towels, wet it and sprinkle the seeds on it and then cover with cling film. Thank you Jag. When do you remove the weight?
Well…this 73 year old great grandmother had a hard time focusing on his demonstration. Why? Pretty obvious. Too beautiful!
You can watch it again , are you going to start growing?
😂😂😂
Thank you Jag, this was very helpful. I finally know why coconut coir is so important. It's a sterile medium. No fungus.

You need light after seeds germinate, about 2 to 3 days after adding the seeds.
You are awesome. Thanks very instructive

great video, lots of useful tips. question: when do we remove the clay pot weights covering the seeds trying to sprout? i am looking forward to getting my microgreen game on.
I usually remove the weight after 2 or 3 days. Beyond that, the seeds start getting moldy. But that is with regular potting soil.
I was wondering the same thing.
Me too!!
My question as well
Good sensible information!
hello, new to growing microgreens here. can you reuse the coconut coir/growing medium after harvesting the microgreens? Thanks
Good question
