I'm digging the Traveller shirt. Dean Koontz science-fiction is a shocker to me. I read Homeworld recently, and it is quite good. With all that Conan pastiche, you're set for Cimmerian September. I hope the roof replacement isn't too painful.
Thanks! The roof contract is signed, money is in… progress marches on! And I've been hearing about Cimmerian September… hmm… Can't think of a reason not to!
Well, here's the bad news about The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. This is a book that has been coasting on its excellent reputation for a long time, but the fact is it's pretty bad. Read it, but don't expect too much. For Great Heinlein with a capital G, you need to read the short stories. It's sad the majority of readers only consider novels when evaluating author. Particularly with SF authors, you will often find that the short stories represent some of their very best work. That's certainly true with Heinlein. The stories he wrote in the early 40s alone are enough to justify his grandmaster status.
I have read some of his short stories from that period. I have the old Ace collection The Worlds of Robert A. Heinlein with five stories ranging from 1939 to 1962. I thought his introduction, where he tried o predict the future, was actually the best part. I wrote a post about it here: fantasyhandbook.wordpress.com/2019/07/30/what-we-can-learn-from-a-random-science-fiction-novel-the-worlds-of-robert-a-heinlein/ But yeah, I've learned to go into Heinlein with, we'll say… tempered expectations.
I love the SF Book Club editions too. So many great reads, so many memories.
I should gather up all the ones I still have and do an SFBC appreciation video!

Lots of reverb/echo in this one.
Yeah, I noticed that. Turns out I had accidentally turned a knob on my microphone. Will check that going forward.
