Powered through the audio book every waking minute since it was released and finished just after the release of this video, cant wait for further cosmere implications from this book. And cannot believe you managed to not only read but digest and produce a video on the cosmere wide stuff in that time frame!! Amazing!!
Just finished last night! You were so right about the destination being incredible. Excited to hear all the connections I may have missed. I want to do an immediate reread of the entire Cosmere now but I keep telling myself I have plenty of time and still a new book next year!
I know I need to find time! I really want to reread the Stormlight Archive all in a row now that book five is out. I also thought I hadn't read Emperor's Soul in a while, so may redo that as well.
Love your vid, crushing it as usual! One thing that you may have missed (or omitted on purpose) is the mention of the core of Braize being special and attracting investiture which allows it to trap souls. This could be a connection to the core of Canticle which is some kind of lighting rod for investiture also which is crucial to the unique way that planet works. This connection shows that you need a investiture conducting core and an investiture spewing sun (like Taldain) to make Canticle.
@@Bookborn Found it faster than I thought. You were right it was in the Tanavast chapters, about 30% of the way through "ch 100: God" he describes Braize catching his attention. "A cold dark rock. It could support life, barely. It had a curious property, a core of a strange metal that attracted investiture, calling to my soul."
Finished last night! Oh my god the Cosmere was a journey! I decided to read and reread everything in the Cosmere in anticipation for this book and it did not disappoint. Catching all the references and set ups that he has for his other novels was rewarding.
Brandon has mentioned that he has an idea for a kite based magic system a few different times on his podcast/live streams/Q & A's. Mainly just that he wants to make it work and wasn't where it would fit, or if it would even end up in the Cosmere at all.
Ok this makes so much sense because it sounded so familiar but I couldn’t think of any planet we’d seen. Clearly I’d just heard about it on some stream!
7:13 I assumed at first reading that Hoid’s using a power like the Returned have in how they can change their physical shapes 🤔 at least bc of how it’s described as being not really a lightweaving due to its interactive nature
7:15 The appearance altering thing Hoid does is something the Returned can do, but he's definitely not a Returned. I personally think it's something that comes with high levels of Investiture and being in-tune with your self-perception/Cognitive Self. He couldn't have done this with Aons like Galladon does, because he gets those abilities in Tress.
Ok I was thinking the same thing about elantrians- I was like we know tress takes place after this. I forgot that returned can do it. Must be related to investiture or simply high breaths

I'm definitely on the side of that being evidence that death rattles can be wrong. Or well, perhaps not "wrong", but rather that once they have been seen they can be subverted. We've seen quite a few instances now where knowledge of the future is sufficient to change it, such as with Vin & Atium, and Renarin's visions. I think had Sigzil not heard the death rattle and as such not have had the time to mentally prepare to do what he had to, it would have played out exactly as it was in the death rattle.
I think this is 100% correct. If Sigzil hadn't heard the prediction then he would have been fighting up till the very last moment. Instead, his efforts at the end wasn't to win but to not lose. Similar to another important event in the book :)
I’m glas the in-depth stuff is starting to drop! Let’s see - Iyatil is indeed from Silverlight. It was noted in The Lost Metal that her brother Dlavil is from Silverlight. Makes sense that she would be, too. We didn’t know yet that Axindweth was a full Feruchemist, but the rings made it likely. Also, yes, there is Frost stuff in SP5! Hoid changing his appearance is likely something he can do because he’s so Invested. Returned do this, Yumi does this. It’s what the Royal Locks are. Hoid makes himself look more Alethi and taller. It’s essentially matching your spiritual self, except he can surely exploit it. Btw, Ulaam wasn’t in MB Era 2, although MeLaan did mention him once as he had apparently warned her about relationships. I really loved the later Wit scenes (with Sigzil, Ulaam, and his job interview). Have you read Dragonsteel? It deals with the Jerick story Hoid tells Dalinar. Also, Dawnshard stuff. Also, the Iriali! The whole Braize’s core is weird is new. There was quite some new Ashyn stuff, too. I think the gradual reveal that Aux was Szeth’s spren originally was interesting and works better after reading TSM. I also agree that it seems as though our Crystal Inquisitor is being set up for a future all over the Cosmere.
Also I feel like Cultivation fleeing Roshar is going to have a lot more implications than we’ve seen. Like where is she going and what is she going to do? Is she going to wander, settle a new world, join another world that already has a shard, or regroup to fight Retribution with the other shards?
So many questions about the movements of the shards. Ten years is going to be a LOT of time (in world) to see what happens. I can't believe we have to wait so long.
Yea fleeing definitely didn’t seem like it was part of her original plan. Maybe she say dalinars actions as a possibility and is going to inform the other shards and get backup?
@Bookborn Maybe? Maybe it just takes the right Connection, Command and Intent. He has the connection through his bond to Szeth, and learns the right Commands and Intent from his conversations with the Honorblades. It could also be more complicated, or it could just be the rule of cool.
Nightblood in Shadesmar - I believe that is just how he looks on that side, like he exists in both and has a physical version and a cognitive version. Much like how spren exist in both and look different in both.
Could be a bad interpretation on my part but I got the impression that it was something new nightblood learned from the spren and honorblades. But I’ve only read through once so far.
I’m pretty sure Nightblood manifested like that in the Cognitive Realm because he’s a living being, especially with the increased sapience as of WaT. Because he’s alive and has thoughts, his soul would be in the Cognitive Realm, so I think he just sees himself as this beautiful sword so much that he would be usable in the Cognitive Realm.
Super interesting theory. I guess he's living in a different way than the spren are? So his congitive perception is so strong that he's a sword, that he's still a sword in the cognitive realm? I like that idea
I was thinking something along these lines too! I was also kind of thinking wasn’t he made with a ton of breaths so maybe it’s the combination of all the breaths that make him glow so brightly?
For Moash I think that was an aether which we've seen in Tress and with Twinsoul in Lost Metal. Though this is a very different application of them than we've seen so far! With Death rattles as well all Fortune does work that way where you see a likely future but as soon as someone sees it they can change it. I think this is similar to seeing an arrow coming with atium and moving out of the way. Oceans in the sky maybe could be Tress? There is a ground below their weird kind of oceans so that could be it? Or maybe something new. Invention traveling around creating wonders is interesting too. I wonder if Canticle which is supposed to be a device of some kind was made by Invention? Thanks for getting a Wind and Truth video out so soon. I'm sure that wasn't easy with such a big book and so many references.
I can't remember a tamu kek in another canon Cosmere book, but they _were_ in Dragonsteel Prime, which is psuedo-canon I guess. In fact WaT made it much more canonical with Hoid telling Dalinar the story of Jerick at the end.
Felt is not a Seon… Felt is a man who has a Seon named Ala (spoilers for the end of WaT) who he gives to Shallan at the end. Also Frost is in the prologue for Isles of the Emberdark.
My personal theory is that the fallen 4th moon and the metal with it is some of the last vestiges of Adonalsiums god metal, and that roshar itself is covered in it. We’ve already seen that Ado’s investiture has remained in the form of the wind the stone and the night, so it’s not implausible to me that there might still be some god metal of its left
Sanderson as a content creator himself should give you guys early access with an embargo. Just saying I probably wouldn’t have found his work without content creators like you.
I think, with Nightblood and Surges, that he is able to learn to grant them because he believes that he was patterned on the Honor blades; additionally because they predate the nights radiant, they are something more primal. The question I have, does he have all 10 surges or just the two that Szeth asked for.
Someone else theorized that it was about connection and intent - so yes, if he believes he's like the shardblades, is that enough? IDK man I really need wayyy more explanation on how nightblood was created
@@Bookborn Nightblood also absorbs investiture, so I it’s possible that he learned to manifest the investiture he absorbs into granting surges (or any other abilities assist with the types of investitures he’s absorbed)
WHY NIGHTBLOOD CAN GRANT SURGES: Wind and Truth tells us, for I believe the first time, that Nightblood was modeled after the talking spren blades, which also grant surges. That's in there with the Warbreaker quote. He came to your lands, saw the Honorblades, and thought to himself, “My sword can’t talk. That’s dumb. I want a sword that can talk!” So he made me with Shashara. Sanderson, Brandon. Wind and Truth: Book Five of the Stormlight Archive (The Stormlight Archive, 5) (p. 339). Tor Publishing Group. Kindle Edition. Of course, honorblades cannot talk, to my knowledge, so I think this should be the live spren blades. Maybe both.
ROSHARAN METAL: This quote was particularly fascinating, less about a moon and more about Roshar itself. I have had a wild theory that there will be a 17th metal and a 17th Shard since Lost Metal where Wayne had a heavy dose of fortune and an obsession with the number seventeen. He mentions the number three times or more in very curious circumstances. A THIRD WORLD, MORE DISTANT FROM THE SUN. A COLD, DARK ROCK-IT COULD SUPPORT LIFE, BARELY. IT HAD A CURIOUS PROPERTY: A CORE OF A STRANGE METAL THAT ATTRACTED INVESTITURE, CALLING TO MY SOUL. FASCINATING. Sanderson, Brandon. Wind and Truth: Book Five of the Stormlight Archive (The Stormlight Archive, 5) (p. 980). Tor Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.
nightblood wasnt transported into the cognitive realm w szeth. instead of showing up as a bead he showed up as his cognitive aspect because he’s invested which is why he was in glowing form. if nightblood was teleported in with szeth he would look like a normal black sword. i think that’s how it all works if that makes sense lol
Yeah but *how* did he get there? Normal shardblades can't manifest in the cognitive realm, and I would say shardblades are pretty invested since they are spren, right?
@ i’m sorry idk how to explain this well😭😭 nightblood didnt have to be trasported PHYSICALLY into the cognitive realm. anything in the physical has a cognitive aspect which is what szeth was interacting with not the physical. if nightblood was PHYSICALLY pulled into the cognitive realm it would still be a black sword. not the glowing sword. that’s why when he got back to the physical nightblood hadnt moved. the physical version of nightblood was never touched. similar to how shallan can manifest something from the beads
I think wit is terrified of people finding out things about him through the spiritual realm. Like how you can train to recognise when you are dreaming, he likely has trained to recognize when hes in the spiritual realm.
i remeber finishing sunlit man and beind about sig being off world so far in the future and never seeing his friends again, but now with the time warp on roshar who knows, maybe hel be back again for the second half of the story. I really hope so
For Nightblood being in the cognitive realm, that was its cognitive self as Nightblood exists in all three realms. We know this because of 2 (maybe 3) reasons. 1) Nightblood glowed golden in the cognitive realm, as this is how it sees itself. 2) when Seth returned to the physical realm, he was no longer holding Nightblood, it was over where he’d left it earlier near Kaladin. The cognitive version of Nightblood cannot leave the cognitive realm. Maybe 3) in RoW when Taravangian killed Rayse, he did so using the spiritual version of Nightblood, as that’s where Rayse and Taravangian were. However this kinda conflicts with what Szeth says in Wind and Truth as he said Taravangian drew Nightblood and killed himself. So to recap, szeth didn’t bring Nightblood into the cognitive realm to fight the 2 honour-bearers, he used the existing cognitive version of Nightblood that was already there.
But Nightblood said he didn't know how he got there, and that he thought he "fell". So that's why it doesn't feel like he *already* existed in the cognitive realm, unless Nightblood just isn't aware of how he works...
I think Nightblood got into the cognitive realm because it's also really powerful in its cognitive aspect - the same way taravangian was able to use the cognitive or spiritual aspect to kill rayse despite just being killed by the physical aspect
I made a theory years ago that I felt Adonalsium will seek to reforge all of the shards back again after seeing what Sazed was able to do in making Harmony. I still feel that theory holds weight.
13:00 i think the moash crystal thing is most similar to the pill Amaram took to make him that crystal demon in Oathbringer...no idea what causes that but thought it interesting Also quick note on Sunlit Man, so i didn't really like Sunlit man when i read it specifically because it felt like we just disneyfied Sigzil, basically taking some hero we love and turning him into a washed up loser who killed his spren. The context here would actually have made me like Sunlit Man more I think. Not that its essential or anything, but i would atill persobally put Sunlit man at the very end
On the fourth moon bit where is it mentioned as stone that is not stone. I had a thought that this stone might have been what was used to build Urithiru? It was just a random thought i had when reading, and did not see anything to back that up later in the book. Could be the reason why it is able to do the things that it is able to do though.
I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but while no one (to my knowledge) full on guessed the last Shard or Dawnshard, there were close guesses. I've seen people suggest Survive for Hoid's Dawnshard, which is close to but isn't the same as Exist. And with Reason, people guessed some pretty close things like Prudence - not Reason, but somewhat close in concept.
I thought his name is actually Tanner. "Avast" is probably a suffix given to followers of kor's church and he was probably a follower which is why their love was forbidden. So his name was Tanner then changed to Tanavast when he became some sort of higher up in kor's church
Night blood - only guess is night blood said they were studying the honorblades. So somehow taught itself how to act like a spren. Then showing up as a different form in the cognitive realm.
I feel like comparing Hoid and Kelsier isn't entirely fair - I've always felt like Hoid's goals were ultimately about a giant greater good (or at least what he thinks is the greater good) that might mean he needs to sacrifice people and things he cares for vs Kelsier is very much "imma protect me and mine" - both are single minded towards goals, but Hoid's feels at least a little more selfless (even if potentially misguided at times) also - I'm very interested in what's going on with Valor - in one of Harmony's previous letters to Hoid, he suggested that Hoid reach out to her as she thought it's been too long since she and Hoid have spoken - then endowments letter here basically refuted that - the vibe I got was that Hoid was trying to find Valor and asked Endowment about it, but then Endowment is trying to protect Valor for some reason?? I dunno
That's the vibe I got - Harmony wants them to chat, Endowment doesn't, either because she doesn't trust Hoid or wants to keep Valor safe. Whatever the reason, we definitely don't know what Valor's thoughts are about it.
I don't think Kelsier and Hoid are similar characters, but I DO think the fandom often thinks of them similarly: which is that we can't help but love them, but they aren't always the most altruistic.
@@Bookborn Fair enough - I do tend to view Hoid in the most positive light possible, while Kelsier I'm more ok with him being rakish - but I can see how they are sorta two sides of the same coin - and that also adds a layer to why they get along so poorly
So at some point it’s the future and a girl talks to 3 men in a coffee shop. I have no clue whats going on there or if we will get the story of how it got to that point.
I don’t think tanavasts name is tanner i think that was his profession before he took up honor and rayse calls him that as an insult. (They imply the belt rayse is wearing was made by tanavast)
Not to be nit-picky, but you mentioned at 3:00 that Felt was a seon, but Felt is the scadirian who has the seon Ala. He was around in era 1 of mistborn.
I assumed Vin at the well of ascension - she gave it up because she thought she was supposed to, even when faced with Elends death. It could of course also be talking about the shard bearers who were brief, but the story seemed more likely to point to Vin
I really just need a discussion about the first, say 20% of the novel. But every online person, and every chat, is about the entire book. I will not be finishing the entire book for a few weeks. But I really want to talk about the beginning without spoilers for the end. Frustrating
This is just sort of a tough thing for creators to do. If I did this video by "day" (so by part), then I wouldn't be allowed to talk about developments on the same topics, leading to a really repetitive video. This sort of thing is great for more discussion-based platforms, like discord. I know a lot of discords that use spoiler tags by chapter so you can engage in discussions while you read!

Felt is not a Seon… Felt is a man who has a Seon named Ala (spoilers for the end of WaT) who he gives to Shallan at the end.
Also Frost is in the prologue for Isles of the Emberdark.
I was way too giddy when the Dragonsteel prime references showed up. Jerick is canon!!
Yes, this is what I was getting at! That's my current theory as well
Sanderson as a content creator himself should give you guys early access with an embargo. Just saying I probably wouldn’t have found his work without content creators like you.
Sanderson and his team has treated me extremely well 🙏
I think, with Nightblood and Surges, that he is able to learn to grant them because he believes that he was patterned on the Honor blades; additionally because they predate the nights radiant, they are something more primal.

Moash taking up the Exist Dawnshard in Arc 2 confirmed.
nightblood wasnt transported into the cognitive realm w szeth. instead of showing up as a bead he showed up as his cognitive aspect because he’s invested which is why he was in glowing form. if nightblood was teleported in with szeth he would look like a normal black sword. i think that’s how it all works if that makes sense lol
Yes! I was thinking the exact same thing!
It makes sense that the Cosmere has lost All Reason
I think wit is terrified of people finding out things about him through the spiritual realm. Like how you can train to recognise when you are dreaming, he likely has trained to recognize when hes in the spiritual realm.
I’m only on chapter 50, so… Saved to my “Watch later” playlist 😅
i remeber finishing sunlit man and beind about sig being off world so far in the future and never seeing his friends again, but now with the time warp on roshar who knows, maybe hel be back again for the second half of the story. I really hope so
"His name shall be Discord, and they will love him for it", so I'm still not sure if Discord is that bad.
Bless you.
Tanavast’s name was tanner, but he also was a tanner. He made the belt that odium was wearing.
The Temu Kek appeared in Dragonsteel Prime
I think Nightblood got into the cognitive realm because it's also really powerful in its cognitive aspect - the same way taravangian was able to use the cognitive or spiritual aspect to kill rayse despite just being killed by the physical aspect
Isnt Redemption's new light Warlight? It might be possible to split it into Voidlight and Stormlight kind of like how they do with Harmony's metal
I made a theory years ago that I felt Adonalsium will seek to reforge all of the shards back again after seeing what Sazed was able to do in making Harmony. I still feel that theory holds weight.
Isn't ado dead tho
After sunlit man I thought Kaladin might die because his arc comes to an end in wind and truth.
24:54: I don't think his name was literally Tanner (unless it's a surname); he worked as a tanner. He mentions in his POV that he used to make belts.
6:09 when hoid made that comment I assumed it was about kelsier giving the power to vin? I guess I missed something I’m gonna go back and read it.
13:00 i think the moash crystal thing is most similar to the pill Amaram took to make him that crystal demon in Oathbringer...no idea what causes that but thought it interesting
Also quick note on Sunlit Man, so i didn't really like Sunlit man when i read it specifically because it felt like we just disneyfied Sigzil, basically taking some hero we love and turning him into a washed up loser who killed his spren. The context here would actually have made me like Sunlit Man more I think. Not that its essential or anything, but i would atill persobally put Sunlit man at the very end
Thanks!
Thanks for the support!
Right people got close but no one got dead on. Jsut surprises me since the fandom usually can guess this stuff. I think it’s fun we didn’t
I do not think his name was Tanner, but that was his previous occupation. That is why he gestured to the belt that he had made before they ascended.
Yeah, Rayse just likes to call him that to remind him of his previous lowly status.
I misread it as a nickname which is why it made me laugh. This makes more sense lol
I thought his name is actually Tanner. "Avast" is probably a suffix given to followers of kor's church and he was probably a follower which is why their love was forbidden. So his name was Tanner then changed to Tanavast when he became some sort of higher up in kor's church
Commenting to come bavk when i finish the book 😂
Just started Wind and Truth.
I think the bone communication is with dragons specifically from Dragonsteel but I could be wrong
Everyone is corroborating this but I'm still so convinced I read it somewhere else (I'm clearly wrong lol)
Night blood - only guess is night blood said they were studying the honorblades. So somehow taught itself how to act like a spren. Then showing up as a different form in the cognitive realm.
But if he acted like a spren, he wouldn't be a sword in the cognitive realm, right?
@@Bookborncorrect. maybe acted more like the honorblades? Do we know how they appear in shadesmar?
@@PixelatedEpiphany That's a great question. Have we seen an honorblade in shadesmar? Idk what would happen there...
I feel like comparing Hoid and Kelsier isn't entirely fair - I've always felt like Hoid's goals were ultimately about a giant greater good (or at least what he thinks is the greater good) that might mean he needs to sacrifice people and things he cares for vs Kelsier is very much "imma protect me and mine" - both are single minded towards goals, but Hoid's feels at least a little more selfless (even if potentially misguided at times)
also - I'm very interested in what's going on with Valor - in one of Harmony's previous letters to Hoid, he suggested that Hoid reach out to her as she thought it's been too long since she and Hoid have spoken - then endowments letter here basically refuted that - the vibe I got was that Hoid was trying to find Valor and asked Endowment about it, but then Endowment is trying to protect Valor for some reason??
Is the ocean in the sky Lumar with the moon spores falling from the sky?
Did we talk about galladon?
So at some point it’s the future and a girl talks to 3 men in a coffee shop. I have no clue whats going on there or if we will get the story of how it got to that point.
I don’t think tanavasts name is tanner i think that was his profession before he took up honor and rayse calls him that as an insult. (They imply the belt rayse is wearing was made by tanavast)
I think it was Nightbloods cognitive aspect, not the physical aspect
Not to be nit-picky, but you mentioned at 3:00 that Felt was a seon, but Felt is the scadirian who has the seon Ala. He was around in era 1 of mistborn.
Not picky, I totally misspoke!
Umm....very interesting 🤔
Wasn’t the person who gave up the power of a god Kelsier and not Vin?
