Thank you to Professor Brian Cox for taking part. He is bringing his acclaimed live show Horizons: A 21st Century Space Odyssey to the US in April-May 2025 - visit briancoxlive.co.uk for tickets
He would probably (I would think definitely) baulk at this comment, but I truly think Prof. Brian Cox is one of the most valuable men on Earth. He's got the unique talent of not only being incredibly intelligent, but also wise and relatable, with the ability to communicate these fascinating and complicated concepts to the average person in a way that they are meaningful and hopefully to challenge their perspective for the better. I love this man.
Hes voice is so soothing i can never watch a full video he always ends up putting me to sleep. I could listen to him all day! The david attenborough of science!
i could listen to this man for hours on end talking about stuff i have no idea about but explaining it in a way i do understand and that is a remarkable quality in a Professor
I went to see his Horizons gig in Edinburgh this year and it honestly was the highlight of my year ! Over two hours of just non stop Astronomy dorking out !
Early squad! Also my thought of space... We're all space and time travellers, our planet is our vessel. We just don't think about it because it's our normal, so it becomes something special when humans get into orbit around earth because it's space that we can perceive as space since it's not here at home on our planet that we take for granted and are used to. Regarding other life in the universe, I personally believe there are other civilizations out there somewhere. The universe is just so incredibly huge beyond our wildest imagination, and other civilizations could be so far away that we can't find them, and they probably can't find us either, the distances are just too great for any attempt of communication, another "Earth" may be millions of lightyears away, maybe they're still alive today, maybe they're not, maybe another planet out there is developing life right now, another planet might be well ahead of us in technology. We just don't know, and in all honesty, I don't think we will ever know, and that is totally fine imo. It's just something that is interesting to think about, and we're quite possibly better off not having contact with other planets civilizations considering how destructive civilizations can be both towards each other and the habitat we call home, just look at how we're treating our own planet and the lifeforms on it... Being an avid FFXIV player, I'd have to say we should work on saving and maintaining our planet rather than attempting to move elsewhere. If you look at FFXIV at a deeper level, it does give us messages that can be applied to real life. The game tells us it's wrong to extinguish another civilization to save our own, and it also tells us there's no place like home, not to mention the immense logistics required to relocate (which FFXIV also brings up) and we don't even have bunnies on the moon to try to help us (if you've played Endwalker, you'd know...) I know Final Fantasy is just a game (franchise) but my autistic mind is able to see these subtle hints and messages in the games story. I'm no physicist, just an autistic gamer who likes to think about the possibilities in the universe and what we know or think we know about it... Loved watching this video, super interesting ❤
Now about the subject of are we alone. The answer to that is we are not alone. There have been hearings in congress about this subject. And they couldn't give out the actual true answer but they said that we possess "bio's as they referred to them. Notice the S on bio's. And yes they have been watching us and are interested in our nuclear capabilities. They couldn't talk about if we are in communication with them. The reason is is because those people in congress don't have a high enough security clearance. The reason why we can't locate them is because we are to primitive. They're technology is so much more advanced than ours we seam like caveman to them. Now as for why this information isn't being released to the public is because the world leaders don't want masshisteria and the total break down civilized living. Many things will come into question like religion and social structures.
He's just a very clever man who explains things, so idiots like me understand them. I loved it. If someone told me I had to take a man out for dinner. It would be him. The conversation would be mind blowing😂
Knowing there are peaceful people with great minds like Brian cox working so hard for us all in comparison to people like musk...it just puts me at ease for my children. We are a unique civilization that need to help our world and not just let it die for the wealthy to just shuttle off to the moon. We're still young.
To us lay people, the black hole complementarity thing is kind of like the debate about the Star Trek transporter. Does the transporter transport you to your destination? Or does it incinerate you and replicates an exact duplicate (with your consciousness) at your destination? Does it do both, or not?
“Existence, well, what does it matter? I exist on the best terms I can. The past is now part of my future, The present is well out of hand”. Ian Curtis
When a black hole evaporates away to the point where it loses its light bending properties (i.e. its "black-hole-ness") and becomes visible again, what do we call such an astronomical object and what would it look like?
18:13 Even Brian Cox falls into anthropocentrism by talking about 'saving the earth'. Humans are incapable of either saving or destroying the earth. We're just not that powerful. What we can try to do, is preserves Earth's environment such that it remains conducive to our (and other animals) continued existence.
the question is how can we know theres no alien lifes in other galaxies, theres tril of galaxies. I didnt info so far but can we know if there is alien life in other galaxies ? how can we discover that ? by signals ?
brian actually has a video showing it. He got two clocks set at the same time, he then got in a jet and flew around the world, when he got back the clocks no longer had matching times. Its a small difference but the faster you go the bigger the difference in time.
Going to the moon to show up the Russians might have been a thing at the time, and many thought it a waste of money. What it did was open up a whole new world of technology. Same for going to the moon again and Mars. The tech should help us in setting the planet not so much right as undoing the harm. Make it livable where the weather isn’t killing us and crops, the coral and everything….
The time travel comment is silly. You’d take your experience of time with you and it’d not be different than the experience of time you left behind. I’ll never be convinced you traveling fast will cause my time experience to be different than yours. Same with speed of light. Just because it’s the fastest observable phenomena and everything else recognizes its limit doesn’t mean there’s some other phenomena that either is or good be that speed plus 1, whether that’s % or KPH or MPH.

Prof Cox, why are you not coming to Colorado??? PLEASE COME TO COLORADO!!!!
Can we get a 4 hour version of this. I could listen to Brian for hours
Facts! Same here. So fascinating
He's done 2 JRE episodes, and both were like 3 hours long! They're really good! I listen to them all the time.
@@chrisburckhard9122 Yeah but that also means one has to list to Joe Rogan for 6 hours. Which is torture and probably bad for ones brain.
Can listen to Brian for hours, he's really great at explaining complex topics to the dumb people like me.
(okay he doesn't do most of the explaining, but the podcast is great for educating us ignorant folk haha)
There you go. That “great at explaining complex topics” comment-on every science related video. 😂
