A detailed walkthrough of the coneset/steering stem bearing replacement on my Himalayan. This is the first time i have changed my steering stem bearings.
I did my own coneset/headset servicing today after watching your very informative video. Thanks so much! I also replaced the bearings with Japanese products - I chose Koyo bearings as the quality:price ratio was just right. Thanks again!
I had done it myself with NTN after tired from RE Guys. They changed them two time . 1st after 10000KM . 2nd after 5000km. After mine work its being 13,000km and 1year still going good without greasing it.
Great video, at 3:35 if I run into a stubborn race that will not come off the stem I cut them off with a Dremel tool and a tiny cutoff wheel. Cuts right through it like butter.
The bearings are automotive quality 30205JR/30205J KOYO Narrow Section Steering Head Set Taper Roller Bearing 25x52x16.25mm. Just find a bearing dealer and type in 30205 - this is the standard for the bearing size. I chose Japanese over any other manufacturer. Also, you should go for a Nilos seal for the lower bearing. Serial number 30205AV (Nilos Ring for 30205 Series Bearings 25x49x3.6mm) Tim
Ben , I own a r15 v3 . Rode almost 34000km. My handle is straight when still. But when I ride it's slightly off to the right. Any idea what may be the issue here .
Hi Sir, I saw this one on amazon and the reviews are good, should I buy this one? "NTN Bearing 30205 Tapered Roller Bearing Cone and Cup Set, S" and will this fir himalayan 2021 models?
Wonderful job Ben. Himalayans from stock have cheaped out headstock bearings. TIMKEN and FAG are great bearings. Using good quality waterproof grease and dust cover, should make it last a long while.
My bearings lasted 33000 kilometres only because of good maintenance habits and I for sure know that nobody understands the primary differences of an adv dual sport style motorcycle and it’s maintenance schedules. That is why so many have problems with their motorcycles .
Hi Ben , I have installed NTN bearings on my Himalayan, i am facing axial play when move on a road hump or pot hole. What might the issue ? Can you help me please.
Can we take upper and lower cups measurements for Stem coneset bearing wnd get replacement Taper roller bearing.. My motorcycle (Apache RTR) has ball bearings wanted to replace with Taper roller bearing
@@shaikshakeel2693 ok.. but for most off-road motorcycle Taper bearing is used as it will provide more contact area(less stress) and smoother opration..
TVS Apache is already in rally with proper mods... And With current Indian road conditions, we are halfway on that 😁... Anyway wanted to these type of bearings once
Sir..I am having Himalayan BS6 purchased on jan2022 in 2 months 1600km driven now after first service i am getting some breaking noise on front portion from top to bottom while running on pothole but the noise is not coming when riding on speed braker and normal road however due to right side pulling issue i informed to adjust in service centre from that day the issue started ...can you please suggest how this can be resolved now i went more than three times to service centre still this issue not yet resolved 😐 they are saying in Himalayan this sound will come due to its natural bearing settings. Kindly suggest they are right or wheather they are compromising me.
same problem in my himalayan... just completed 1st service, some clicking sound is coming from front when running on small potholes , I checked it with local mechanic... he said it is coming from wind shield, but i am definitely sure it is not coming from wind shield bcz I rod the bike by keeing the wind shield by one hand tightly...., something is losse in the front part, (instrument cluster or handlebar or forks... don't know 😅?)... Mr.Ben plz suggest something..
You can trust Amsoil it's reliable, i use 15w60 for long rides no over heating issues, smooth gear shifts...change interval upto 8-10 depends on your riding condition

It is not the fault of the SKF bearings dear brother. It is about wrong adjustments or poor maintenance habits

Twisted forks . Get it aligned .
Easy way to replace the cones is to put the new ones in a freezer they shrink and pop in easily, very good video well done
Great tip! THANK YOU
So that when it dries the frozen water will melt and create more problem
