I don't live in down town Tacoma, but the aroma of Tacoma is a thing of the past. I used to travel through Tacoma back in the 1970s and that was when it really stunk. There are some industrial activities down on the tide flats that smell bad, but for the most part it is just your normal city smells. In fact most of the time there is a light breeze off the sound that helps get rid of any smells.
I very much agree with you about the garbage and litter. It's amazing that the people here are supposed to be so environmentally conscious, but they will throw trash everywhere! Also in recent times the graffiti just everywhere is out of control!
It's not just the highways with the trash. Neighborhood street corners are no better and it's year-round. Dump your old furniture/toys/appliances on the curb and there it sits, slowly disintegrating.
