Tacoma native here born and raised. I have lived in other parts of the country but always end up back here. However it has gotten so expensive living in Tacoma a nd surrounding areas. I love being around and close to the military instalations i feel safer. But we have our share of crime. So its give and take.
We JUST moved from Tacoma. Lived there for 7 years. Unless you are in one of the rich neighborhoods you will deal with crime & the unhoused taking over your streets & parks. The cops are non existent in the lesser neighborhoods. Getting away from tacoma was the BEST thing I’ve ever done. Also if you’re looking at buying then stay out of pierce county. I believe they have the highest property tax in the state.
Great information. I've been living in Australia for the past 8 years and I've decided to come back home early next year. I was kind of looking and wanting to live in another state or city ..... I consider Los Angeles my home since I migrated to the US before the turn of the century and lived in other state (NJ, AK, HI) but CA has always been my state. But now, I wanted to try it out in another state and watched a video of the 5 top places to live in the US and Tacoma came as third, which led me to this video.
Lived in Tacoma for twenty years before moving to Los Angeles. Tacoma is much better than L.A. Especially for young people. Why? I dunno how to explain why. It just is. Sixth Avenue is full of interesting bars and storefronts and whatnot and from Lakewood to University Place to Ruston it's just dynamic. Or at least it was when I lived there.. I dunno. It's simply the bestest little city I know of. Surrounded by the sea and the mountains at the same time is cool. Does that mean anything? Seattle is your typical big American city (if that's what you want) but Tacoma is only 30 minutes south and much more livable.
Born in L.A. grew up an hour from it was there every other weekend visiting my Father...nothing beats LOS ANGELES and the drug screen is way Lower than Fentanyl City, WA!
Thank you for this video. I love the PNW but I've never spent time in Tacoma. I live in Los Angeles and I can tell you with 100% certainty that no other city has traffic even close to what we have here. I would love to be up there with cooler temperatures, fresh air, tons of trees and forests, and I LOVE rain. It's nice to see that Tacoma has so much to offer and it's close to so many cool things. It would be nice to get a personal perspective rather than a general one focused on real estate. There's no way I could afford a house, so all the information about houses and schools.... doesn't mean a thing to me. There have got to be people who don't own homes, right? Thanks again for the walkabout.
Just wanted to tell people visiting from out of state 😊 Vason ferry from Tacoma you only pay getting on ferry ( no off Island charge) Vahon is well worth a trip. If you are in ferry line up to toll both you will get on ferry 😊
I'm not needing help to move or a place to stay but I have been watching your videos to get a look at the areas over there. I'm gonna be moving there from Texas and your channel has helped me so much.
Hello ! I'm foreign student and going to Tacoma to study in college. Your video was very useful. Thank you. Besides, though you have not too many subscribers, you explanation I find on the very good level !!!
You forgot to mention the homeless issue in Tacoma as a con. And plenty of trash in areas they hang out. And the cars that get broken into. Everyone should look up the crime rate in Tacoma's various neighborhoods. Your video only showed the nice parts of Tacoma.
Question. Should you move there? No! Just visit and save all the money you'll spend in the taxes you'll pay. Oh, and the fairies and big bridges, good luck with those, you'll go broke just trying to use them.
@andyeubanks632 Family reasons But honestly, I'm going to go visit for a few weeks first. My girl stays in university, so I guess that's considered safe . Thanks for the heads up

If you can live in one of Tacoma's suburban cities (Ruston, University Place, etc) you will be happier. They are better organized and safer!
Gig Harbor is amazing but a bit expensive. I grew up in that area. It felt like much more of a small town and not a suburb.
My son and I are moving from Missouri to Tacoma in August and it was funny to hear that you are from there too.
@@ElighF absolutely! Where is he from in MO?

Why would you move to the nazi ran cesspool of LA ?
Yes and really appreciate you being authentic and taking time to share that!
My little 1b apartment on 8th and Yakima street was $140 a month in 1973. What is it now?

I do agree with you about tacoma though.
Seatac is better than Tacoma? Now that’s a first but hey, to each his own! Tacoma had some beautiful neighborhoods.
