    I have the MA-300, it is an absolutely wonderful microphone, sounds great on anything I've ever put it on, handles any vocal I've put in front of it like a hot knife through butter.

    1) love the song, sick as always, enjoyed the dynamics.
    2) really liked the point about how the mic changes with impedance. Its clear you put the time in to tinker with everything. We fellow tinkerers appeciate the work :)

    Definitely love putting a video like this in the context of the performance, and happy to be able to actually see a piece of art resulting from a topic that we're talking about. Keep 'em coming! Nice work on the song!

    a U87 is 60 year old technology, there is zero reason to believe that you shouldn't be able to get a reasonably prices approximation of what it does. The materials are cheaper and I would argue that fabrication is too. The creation of the capsule can be done with better more accurate machining by orders of magnitude. There is a ton of vintage mojo about this stuff that is basically BS from a practicality standpoint. Mojave make fantastic mics.

    What's up, Jeremy! I'm a big fan of Mojave, and I wish I would have had that option when I bought an 87 about 15 years ago. I would take 3 of those over an 87, any day!
    Good review and that track you made was cool, too. Cheers bro ~

    I own a MA200 and MA 201FET. They're in most studios I've built for clients here in Detroit because you get more bang for your buck with Mojave. The ma201 and c214 are my workhorses while the ma200 is for specific voices. The U87 only comes out when certain clients demand it. lol

      @@RecordingStudioLoser Yessir! I make a lot of classic rock style vocal harmony forward music a la Beatles/Beach Boys/CSNY, and the first time I stacked harmonies on it was an insane experience for me. You mentioned something in the video about good mics excelling in the extremities, and the ma300 has incredible low end and also air that really shines. Thanks 🙏🏻

    Went to Sweetwater for Guitarfest with the intent of picking up either a Chandler Type L, or a United Studio Technologies Twin87, but there was a discounted used MA200 I came home with! Stoked! And also picked up the Heritage HA81 pre-amp/EQ. This is my first big vocal/etc. chain upgrade to my little studio. Love the song.

    Great video coming from someone that always feels like I need a u87. Maybe that's just because it's made out to be that "professional studio" staple and it's the only way to compete. I have a TLM103 that I love on my vocals and can always get great results with my trusty sm7b. I wish I was able to test the mojave before buying it.

  • @compucorder64

    I'm with you on the meh-ness of U87s generally. This 301 does sound nice. I love my Soyuz 017, and I have a JZ Vintage 67 too, and a Chandler TG Type L. I quite like those smooth 67-ish mics. If you ever get a chance, a run through of some of the more recent u47 type mics would be appreciated. I prefer u47s over a u87 generally (including FET 47s). They sound great on vocals but are also fantastic on bass cab and always on kick drum, or overhead or drum room. Recently, there's the Pearlman, Stam versions. And even at the lower end of the budget I think the Warm Audio tube U47 sounds quite nice for the price, and the Advanced Audio CM47 is nicer again, at around 900eur. And the WA-47F is decent too, though I prefer the Advanced Audio CM47FET which is great value at around 360eur over here.

    • @MANdrewMusic
      @MANdrewMusic 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The MA200 is wonderful! It wins vocal shootouts against the u87 ai 95% of the time. I’ve had better luck with the u87 on female vocals, but I don’t put it up for a shootout on male vocals anymore, unless it’s rap. My experience with the u87 ai is that it’s clear and honest, but doesn’t deliver the larger than life, breathiness wow factor that the MA200 gives. Like Jeremy points out in the video, the response that singers get from the mic while tracking is important and I’ve had a lot of them respond to the MA200 with better performances. Overall, I’d say the MA200 is bright with a tight bottom. I rarely need to EQ it to fit in the mix. Maybe some de-essing and then it’s good to go.

    I’m in a vocal chain dilemma lol. Should I buy a Beesneez BU87i C + used BAE 1073MP + Audioscape 76F? Or a Used U87 Ai for the same amount? I currently have an RME QuadMic II as my preamp and I wanna build out a vocal chain again. I also have an Audioscape Opto but I want a faster rackmount comp

    • @Lanatemusic
      @Lanatemusic 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Id say a tlm 103, bae 1073 , and the audio scape t6f. If you want less top end go with the tlm49. The bock 195/87 is also great as well. Personally id stick with neumann for the quality of their mics.
