I loved this underrated game. Kordell Stewart was a good running quarterback who led the Steelers to the AFC Championship game where he met John Elway again, and John got payback in that game
Because Elway was a REAL qb
@Hector Rodriguez Shanahan was perfect for elway with his elite passing but getting older they added a elite run game that's why terell Davis was the first of many consecutive different thousand yard rushers lol like mike Anderson and people remember olandis Gary lmao then Portia and rueben droughns and you get the hint ....
@@HockeyMike Kordell probably would of had more success if the Steelers weren't changing offensive coordinators every year.. 97-01 he had 4 different offensive coordinators.
@@HockeyMike Yes he was, so was Kordell.
What’s a real quarterback?! Kordell was a real QB!!
These old NBC games are always nice
War damn eagle also Auburn!
Great theme!
NBC was just so dramatic yo.....
@@terucks WYM?
in my opinion if the stadiums are more clean and new looking then its good.
if they look old and dirty then the games are bad.
The Bus was something special to watch, hard downhill power runner we may not see ever again
pls put some respect on king henrys name
@@chasezyy I mean I have his jersey, but the video is before Henry
Him and foster and bam morris I loved and I'm packers fan and miss these days ...
Henry is HARDLY a King! Cant give a guy of 1 or 2 good years KING moniker!
Kordell and the 🚌 best duo ever!!! I remember when three rivers used to rock like that!
I remember the hail mary at Michigan when he was at Colorado university
Yancey Thigpen- there’s a name I haven’t heard in years
That old astroturf was dangerous as hell
Just like the vet...
but looks so freshhhhh
The Bus swats them away like flies! Cowher was the ultimate players coach
I love cowher but is it me or besides 2005 he kinda had marty schottenheimer type luck in the playoffs it seemed, especially in games where they were a heavy favorite
@@ericsigersmith2831 plus he coached under Marty before becoming the Steelers head coach
Cowher's record was similar to Andy Reid.
Action-packed from start to finish. This's one of those games where you wanted both teams to win because you liked both rosters. People always think of Big Ben and never remember the Slash era. Great great between two great warriors! Thanks for posting this!
18:02 I miss stadiums that use to rock like that.
All them stadiums in the 90s all have that feel to it
This Is how LSU and Auburn and alabama games are and the swamp in florida
@Patrick Mason Yeah Three Rivers Stadium used to get crazy loud cuz of the circular shape of the stadium 🏟. It would help raise the decibel level of the crowd noise.
I'm a Patriots fan, and later that year in a play-off game at Three Rivers, Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe couldn't audible to the offense cuz the crowd noise was so insanely loud. Patriots wound up losing that playoff game in a nailbiter.
Still though I do miss Three Rivers Stadium and all those old football + baseball dual use venues. They were part of my youth...
@@nate986 The fact that in those days there also weren't IPhones, Smart Phones and all these newer gizmos and gadgets to distract folks at the games back then helped make for a rowdier + louder + more rocking crowd atmosphere too 😎.

The bus was a beast
War eagle
Willie Green looking at Rod Smith like, "That was my touchdown! What the f*ck Rod?!" 😆😆😆😆
Man I Wish That The Broncos Still Played Like They Did Then
Shanhan the rb whisperer
eric sigersmith and the o-line whisperer! I love our defense but I wish we could pick up an offensive guru like we did with Shanahan.
John showing off that arm with a rocket to Rod Smith! Those were the days!
War eagle Auburn!
The bus was a type of player we may never see again
I say this to everyone.
Not a steelers fan, but i find it funny how his first team thought he was bust
But IF teams ignore players like that then teams will build their defenses not geared to counter it and then possibly getting players like that may work well against unprepared defenses. Just maybe...
Brandon jacobs was a slighlty less famous bus ecspecially cause the bus was already famous because of notre dame
Carnell Lake I grew up in him and Rod Smith and Woodson
And perry
The 1995 AFC Championship game please🙏🏽
In my opinion, that is the most underrated game in the 90s
@@brisreiter1396 the colts one where the guy almost caught the hail mary ? From harbaugh the Michigan coach ?
The broncos ended up getting the last laugh in the end in the rematch
😩😩😩
And getting the ring after that
Except for 05 bill cowher was like tony Dungy in big games
@@ericsigersmith6067 refs gave Pittsburgh that win in 2005 and I hate the Seahawks
@@pp3k3jamail It's not like Seattle would have won even if refs didn't make questionable calls.
Big #99 Levon Kirkland looking like a defensive lineman but as nimble as a DB
I remember him last on eagles and Jim Johnson defense
300 lbs
Howard Griffith talked about this game and said lavon Kirkland knocked him straight on his ass they met again in the afcchampionship and he finally decided to chop block lol
Just one month later, not only did the Denver Broncos exact revenge against the Steelers in the AFC Championship game, NBC lost the AFC package to CBS the next day and wouldn’t air an NFL game until acquiring the Sunday Night package from ESPN in 2006.
And ESPN bought ABC Sports😭

NFL on CBS is so boring
Gee Bee After Summerall and Madden, but Nantz and Nessler are carrying the channel
Kordell Stewart walked so Lamar Jackson to run
The Steelers ability to scout WR talent over the past 25 years....Miss you Yancey!
Thigpen yep
Winston-Salem State University
The game where the broncos fullback got crush by a steeler line backer
And he had the last laugh on Kirkland in the Championship
Smashmouth football when the lorenzo Neal's and keith byars and tony Richardsons were very important in the league
NBC really took a hit losing the NBA and NFL in the 2000s
Yes they did I like it better on nbc
I agree
Anyone else remember this from America's Game?
Yep
Denver would win the rematch and final AFC title and playoff game at three rivers en route to becoming the first AFC team to win it all since 83 Raiders.
1983 Raiders
Remember, Howard Griffith was scared to block Levon Kirkland in this game until he finally did it in the conference championship game..
I remember it glory smashmouth days of nfl
This AFC Championship Game In My 1st Season As A Denver Broncos Football Fan
Broncos @ Steelers 1997 AFC Championship Game In January 1998
Kordell stewart, if only he could have been more consistent because he had all the physical tool and creativity you could ask for. His accuracy just too streaky to get the Steelers to the Super Bowl
He would be better today with all the pro style versions of gus malzahns offense with nfl passing routes on top of it now that rpos are the hot thing in the league
Glad to see some AFC North teams lately on the site. Of course it was different in 97
That theme sound hits.
These are the only games you can watch....I'm not watching the shit on the field today.....
God I loved Dick Enberg.
This was the game where Cris Collinsworth claimed that Denver's fullback Howard Griffith was scared to block Steelers linebacker Devon Kirkland.
Man, if Pittsburgh had just committed to Kordell and not changed coordinators every year, I still think he'd have a real special quarterback.
Did his best under Mike malarkey
@@ericpackers1700 ok. U don't think his play under Chan gailey was better?
Great memory. 2 great teams. Great video. #kordellwasabeasttoo
23 Years Ago
Kordell Stewart was running around and connecting with long bombs. On that day he was playing like a young John Elway.
I remember that football game very very well that was a heartbreaker for the Broncos
More videos from 97/98 pls. 🔥🙏🏼🤝
Amen
This is what we need the 2020 broncos to look like
🤣🤣🤣
This is absolutely “back in the day” great NFL football. Didn’t need all that junk on the screen constantly to take your mind off of what you were watching. Just every once in a while they’d pop up the other scores then back to full screen action.
A rare matchup where both teams have not changed their uniforms in 24 years.
Kordell pass at 6 mi s is AMAZINGLY Good! He was a great athlete! Shoulda been used better. If they woulda kept him at his 97 form, He woulda excelled way better! Like trying to make Marino a running QB
This was a fun, unexpected season for the Steelers. Crazy how Kordell accounted for 32 TDs in 1997 as he caught the league off guard. Chan Gailey did a good job tailoring the offense to Stewart’s strengths but got too greedy in the AFC title game. Denver was so loaded. Look at the HOFs on this team: Elway, Davis, Smith, Sharpe, Zimmerman, Atwater. Not to mention other terrific pros like Tony Jones, Nalen, Neil Smith, Price, Romanowski, Mobley. I’m sure I’m forgetting some others. How in the world did Denver fit them all under the salary cap? In these days of TRS the Steelers had no money to keep more of their free agents. Denver got dinged in 1999 for cap circumvention and got docked draft picks IIRC. Smart move. Two SBs won.
Can't believe this team never won a super bowl
Elway missing that same blitz 3 times is interesting
Not a fan of either teams, but the 1996-98 Broncos was a hell of a team
Was this the first season the Broncos played in those uniforms?
Yes it was
Yes, also the first year the Steelers got the logo patch on their jersey and changed the font to match the numbers on their helmets. Both teams still going strong with these respective looks.
Tampa bay bucs also
Bro. The ads. You broke?
Broncos ended up getting the revenge game, and hot take, they will win on Sunday against the steelers also
This denver team was the best wild card team ever

R.i.p. dick end berg 1 of the greatest announcers ever😊
very up and down game for Rod Smith..he made a bunch of big plays but also a bunch of costly drops
1997 steelers should have went to the superbowl that year....
Th new squad need to look at old films
Well, George Jones didn’t last long with PIT did he...
Levon Kirkland could lowkey haul ass 😂
Shannon Sharpe's mug shot. lol
Steelers will win
You can have it...we'll take the superbowl. Oh wait....we did. Including kicking yo ass in the playoffs!!
The Steelers may have won the battle but Denver won the war
The Steelers ruined Kordell Stewart in 1998 when they tried to make him a pure passer, rather than just let him be slash and make plays. In 1997 Stewart was successful, because the Steelers didn't try to make him into a pass first quarterback. I think when Stewart revived his career in 2001, it was the same thing, the Steelers just let him be slash and not try to make him a pass first quarterback.
Better than Neil O'Donnell
Chan gailey. When he left, it wasn't the same.
War damn eagle 🦅!
Somebody kick #75 in the knees.. watch the elbow @8:54
If this was playing with todays rules there be tons flags just in the tackling on the bus
Bruh those stands are MOVING 18:01

Come on feel the noise
Back when football was football and not a social justice movement. If only we had a real quarterback in the 90s
Yes
So I guess Jim Brown, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali & Kareem Abdul Jabbar didn't stand up for Civil Rights?
John Elway was a great quarterback but for some reason I just couldn't stand him
Great win only to lose to them in the afc championship game.
But donkeys got revenge a few weeks later 😡
Broncos would've won
The Steelers won this battle. But the Broncos won the war.

R.I.P Dick Enberg, Pat Summerall, and Frank Gifford.+ Crowds in NFL Stadiums Were into it back then, and it was more home team Than away team fans at home games now these days it's more away teams fans than home team fans at home games I wonder why it's like that?
