    The way I excuse Batman having less advanced detective tools in the other games compared to Origins is that he doesn't need them anymore.
    Since he's become far more experienced and matured, he's honed his talents further so he doesn't need to rely as much on complicated tools like that.
    Is it a stretch? Yeah probably, but it also fits with Batman imo.
    And besides plenty of Year One style stories always show him messing up and at times being dependent on his tools more than his skill. Yet other stories further in his career have him pulling stuff off with far simpler and limited resources at his disposal.

      I mean the glue bomb having the same abilities of the ice bomb was kinda a stretch for me.
      But I do like that they had the electric gloves in arkham knight prison room. Although will be honest and say it's a shame they didn't at least have it as an option

    Personally, Arkham Knight was and still is my favorite Arkham game. Probably even my favorite game. Batmobile missions aside, it takes a little bit of everything from the previous games and improves on them greatly. The combat is the most fine tuned, visually it looks the best out of the series, even 7 years later it still looks gorgeous and can easily compete with modern games, the fear takedown system and using Batman in the most tactical ways than ever before. I absolutely love how the grind didn't feel like a plateau, I even found all the riddler trophies and completed the side mission. It's still the only game I can load up and see 240% completion, and get into the game knowing that I'll just dick around and beat up thugs. A true masterpiece of its time.

      Agreed, I literally just replayed and finished it a day ago and absolutely love it. Sure, the plot may not make sense, but it does not have to it is a fictional story and it was brilliant. I loved the story and the creative liberty with the Joker was so cool.

    • @Cgh33
      @Cgh33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Batmobile arkham knight was a huge let down in the writing and gameplay. The main story didn't make sense with scarecrow just wanting revenge for what killer croc did, but now he's gonna take it out on the City. Arkham knight was said to be a brand new character which led fans to believe it would be a brand new character. But no. Its Jason Todd. With arkham origins being known for the game with the best boss battles, you fight all arkham origin bosses in the batmobile...especially Deathstroke. You'd think they would improve on the boss battles and make them even more revolutionary, but they take the best bosses and kill all the fun by taking them out with the batmobile. The game does not feel like a successor to city and to me has an anti climatic ending to a series I loved so much. Sorry just had to let some of that disappointment out

    Gotham City Imposters was actually really fun. Wished it would have gotten a sequel. The Arkham franchise... you pretty much nailed my sentiment on it. Glad you loved Origins too. It would be cool if Rocksteady would continue not just Batman's story but if they could expand their DC universe not just with Suicide Squad but with other characters too. Similar to what Insomniac is doing with Marvel. I'd have to say that City is my favorite but as you said, all of them are great games. Didn't even know about that Origins sequel. Amazing video.

    The characters in AK are multi-dimensional and complex, while delivering all the action and bravado that you want from a superhero adventure. And while the titular villain is more stroppy adolescent than brooding menace, Arkham Knight’s supporting cast - which I shan’t spoil - work tirelessly to create a compelling plot. Arkham Knight consistently delivers brilliant and unexpected moments that delve deep into the Batman’s mentality, pushing him to breaking point.
    Under the perpetually stormy skies of Gotham City, the Caped Crusader is put through trial after trial; test after test. This is a game about madness, about prevailing darkness and about heroes failing. The horror of failure is something Batman succumbs to, and is punished with, at major points throughout Arkham Knight’s 10-12 hour storyline. It’s gripping - sometimes almost unpleasantly so - to see through to the end. Gotham in AK is a large trifecta of distinct areas, each with their own neighbourhoods and interesting sights, stretching from a gothic city underbelly, to the gleam of cloud-piercing skyscrapers. Arkham Knight’s world feels expansive but handcrafted, rich with detail and teeming with stuff to find, whether that’s clues to cases, nods to DC lore, or the hundreds of Riddler trophies waiting to be solved. This freedom in Arkham Knight is amazing. The marketing tagline "Be The Batman" perfectly sums up what’s on offer here. Whether you’re beating up thugs, soaring through rain-battered skies, leaping from Wayne Tower or roaring through Gotham’s wide streets in the Batmobile, almost everything in Arkham Knight is empowering. Rocksteady not only makes these elements satisfying in their own right, but majestically strings them together. A few hours into the game, I had upgraded my Batmobile to allow for a more powerful ejector seat function. I was mid-melee, clobbering foes and stringing together combos with ease using the improved combat system. I landed a perfect counter attack, upper-cutting an irksome thug into the air before enabling the Batmobile’s remote cannon as a brutal non-fatal combo finisher. At the tap of a button I summoned my ride, jumped up and slid into the cockpit in one slick animation, darting off down the street with the afterburner searing. As Gotham’s dense skyline parted for just long enough to reveal the moonlit clouds, I ejected from the driving seat and launched high into the air - a bolt of lightning cascaded down the center of the screen and illuminated my wings in a bluey-black hue. Wondrous. This is the kind of Batman experience that Arkham Knight refines, and it is truly the best it’s ever been. Getting into fistfights with three-dozen criminals, scanning for clues, investigating leads, solving puzzles and more. It’s a stretch to say that any of this stuff is new, but the familiarity is more an encouraging warmth than a stale chill. Arkham Knight sets up its side content in interesting ways, pacing new leads as you progress instead of just dumping dozens upon dozens of mission markers on to your map at any one time. Your mission wheel keeps track of everything, and selecting a different quest to focus on sparks neat conversational cues between Batman and Alfred, allowing you to always keep track of the context of each mission and where you are in its plot. It’s simple but really effective, and much more organic than the overly apparent percentage completion markers that hang over each segment of your mission wheel. You can track down mutated monsters, investigate the ongoing gruesome murders of a mysterious serial killer, put a stop to ongoing bank heists, and more. All of these require you to be aware of your surroundings - a burning building, a flaming bat symbol on rooftops, or the sudden cacophony of some operatic music nearby may indicate you should investigate. It’s often a bit vague - Arkham Knight really does let you loose and free, and in a world this size it’s not as easily readable as the more dense Arkham City - but the thrill of chasing the majority of these clues is still intoxicating. Some side mission threads are slightly arbitrary ‘retake the city’ objectives like tower takeovers and tank chases, but they make enough out of the game’s individual mechanics - its combat, its freedom and its movement - to still be enjoyable.

    I think Arkham Knight has the best story in the series. My favourite thing about Batman is how he is always presented with temptations to give in to an easy immoral choice but through incredible mental strength and perseverance, he pulls through always. All the time. This is done in previous Batman games too but it's one of the central themes in Knight. The joker, in this game and within this universe from Batman's perspective, is characterized as this mercilessly terrifyingly sadistic and relentlessly force of evil that defies morals. And given what Joker's done to Batman in the Arkham verse and pretty much any other media, it's easy to believe given the uncompromising lengths of evil to get what he wants is a good representation of what Batman fears most. This image of Joker, Batman's polar opposite, who's killed and terrorised his closest allies and friends is constantly espousing ideas of what Batman should and shouldn't do. It's contextualised by the brilliant use of the plot device of the fear toxin having an extended effect. By this way, Rocksteady gave players a window into Batman's mind and what he is thinking about any given point in story. We know all the time what Batman's thinking about at any given moment. This level of personal connection with Batman is missing in all previous Arkham games. This is interactive storytelling at its best. We know what's going on inside the hood because his fears are being spoken aloud. This makes Batman incredibly human while still doing justice to his "extraordinary mortal among ordinary mortals" side of the character. It's in Batman's nature to be stoic brooding and refusing to give in to the immoral temptations that his villains, particularly the Joker, always confront him with. It's a story of overcoming fears with a great deal of perseverance and self control while being surrounded by situations that cause self-doubt. That makes Batman the hero he is and the story of Arkham Knight does that beautifully. I am surprised and flabbergasted by how well Rocksteady knows Batman that they were able to weave a story about Batman's perseverance and self-doubt. The story of good in people and in Batman and his strength required to outlast the forces of inward evils. Joker was Batman's fear and Scarecrow was the catalyst of that fear. I am surprised by how they managed to create a stoic but an emotional character in Batman better than previous games.

    I might have an explanation for the Arkham Origins technology problem.
    Grapnel Accelerator - his suit in origins was bulky and slow, and Batman eventually goes to a less bulky and lightweight suit, but the suit can’t handle the g-force of it, so that’s why in Arkham city a grapnel accelerator that his suit can withstand is in its prototype stage.
    Cryptographic sequencer - In Origins Batman is hacking Gotham networks that use codes and are likely more advanced than that seen in Arkham asylum. It’s possible that due to Arkham Asylums “low technological security” it can be hacked by sound frequencies.
    Disruptor - probably broke, or gun production changed.
    Glue grenade - Cold Cold heart DLC states the grenade is unstable.
    The thing Batman got from death stroke (forgot it’s name) - was a prototype and likely broke, though it probably led the way to Batman’s creation of the line launcher.
    Concussion detonator - pointless

    I have all of the PS3 games but I've only played part of Arkham Asylum. I got to the Bane fight and kept dying over and over again. It has this weird mechanic where if you try to move out of the way you just get thrown into Bane for no reason. Add to that half my button presses didn't register. I rage quit and haven't gone back. I want to try again but I'm still trying to not be angry at the game.
    What I really want to see is a Batman 2D Metroidvania game. Pure cartoony look, preferably hand drawn, or hand drawn look, like Hollow Knight. That would be awesome.

  • @brucew565
    @brucew565 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Arkham Knight turns into a fast paced, well scripted and executed action adventure with just the right RPG elements to make you want to keep moving forward. The game does an awesome job of making you feel like Batman, while also reminding you just how vulnerable Batman is in a head on battle. As I progressed through the game and upgraded Batman’s skills and gadgets, I approached every encounter with a group of thugs as almost a chess game. I scoped out the area first for any environmental takedowns, who was carrying a gun or stun baton, how many bigger guys there were, who I was going to attack first. I planned out my attacks and relished the flow of those actions unfolding. There is a reason this combat system has been copied again and again and Rocksteady has really polished what they have developed over 2 other games. I love how simplistic the system is, while also having this huge deep side to it if you choose to go that route.

    I honestly cannot decide which one my favorite is. At first I thought it was City because I really like the aspect of Batman being not tied down to one location but gliding and swinging across the roofs of many buildings. And then I also like condensed almost claustrophobic athmosphere of Asylum. So I guess I would rank them equally high as my favorites because they have each their unique things going for them. Origins I haven't played yet.

    6: Origins Blackgate (Turning 3D to 2.5D? Bad idea. It was too different from the series. Good but not amazing like the others)
    5: VR (The forgotten gem that no one talks about. I like Arkham VR a lot! It’s very immersive and cool!)
    4: Origins (The weakest of the main series, but still awesome! The story, the moveset, the villain were all incredible)
    3: Knight (In my unpopular opinion, this was a nearly perfect follow up to City)
    2: City (A way more epic adventure than its predecessor. That ending shocked the world for 4 years!)
    1: Asylum (I personally prefer the claustrophobic feel with the combat than the follow ups)

    Arkham Knight is literally the best game I have ever played. Every gameplay element from previous Arkham games elevated to perfection and then some. Arkham Knight's combat is an industry class melee based combat system with a lot of permutations and combinations. I challenge anyone to complete the game by spamming a triangle. It's impossible. Do you know why?? Because there are different enemy types. There's an enemy with shields, enemies with electric batons, enemies with electricity running through their body, enemies with knife, medics brutes etc. and all these enemies require a specific move set to defeat them.
    Also, contrary to what a lot of people said, Batmobile is just 20-25 percent of the whole game and not 50 percent. People who claim tank combat is 50 percent suck at math. There are videos on TH-cam that confirm this.
    The story is literally awesome. Give me a Batman story where Batman is trying to resolve his personal struggle over a court of owls story anyday. Arkham knight was also much darker and grittier than any other game. The ending felt so satisfying. People thought Batman died a heroic death and the way Batman conquered his fears at the end.
    And I am so glad that focus wasn't on the Batfamily but Batman. After all, the tagline of the game was "Be the Batman" not "Be the Batfamily".
