Check out windmill water heaters. Basically retarders (fluid brakes) attached to windmill/waterwheel skips the electric part ans makes hot water directly. They build quite a few in norway denmark in the 70s

i love this, but... until you can stop them blades entirely, you are still letting a LOT of power go to waste.
if you had an alternator hooked up, so you could vary the power its dumping, and then you can watch the output and get an idea when its spinning at its peak efficiency for any wind speed.
and in the winds you get on a plain like that? wow.
a PM generator is simple but its also extremely limited.
im actually working on something entirely different. why dick around with wires, resistors, generators?
boils water. and virtually no limit on the input power. meaning you can grab all the power in that wind...
the amount of load you put on a brake is going to appear as heat. if you can vary the load in direct proportion to the power in the wind speed... you can get all the power by keeping blades at the ideal speeds. an alternator or any other generator can act as a brake... up to a limit. the issue is where does the power go? and here is the answer. boil water. or store heat.
get all the power in the wind that you can. the generator has to be rethought, get rid of the middleman, the electrical loss.

I'm so sorry for not seeing this sooner! Thank you for your comments! I'm doing lots of experiments, myself, and am always looking to collaborate! Have you seen our forums? zchg.org
Hope to hear from you soon and again so sorry I didn't see this sooner!
