This Boeing 707(even though you mistakenly keep showing a propeller driven aircraft) went down for one reason and one reason only-it was performing a noise control turn at reduced power and stalled out without a chance of recovery, plummeting into Jamaica Bay, killing everyone on board! How do I know this?? Well, I was on this very same flight one month earlier as a very young man flying to LA on my way to start up a liquid Hydrogen plant in Fontana CA! My company flew us first class if the flight was more than four duration and I remember like it was yesterday I was sitting next to none other than Zsa Zsa Gabor, a really lovely and charming lady for sure! When we took off it didn’t take very long before we started to go into this what seemed to be a 45 degree bank to the left and I thought at the time-this is not good! Not enough power! One month later that same turn proved fatal for everyone aboard American Airlines Flight 1 out of Idlewild!
Two of the victims of this flight, Julius and Doris Stogel, were parents of a son named Leonard. For his sake, fortunately young Leonard Stogel was not on this plane with his parents. But 17yrs. later, just as his parent’s American Airlines flight rolled over on its side, and plummeted into terrain, so too did his. And I have to wonder, in 1979, as he walked down the Chicago O'Hare jetway to board the American Airlines DC-10, designated flight 191; that due to way his parents met their end, if he had any inclination; or if maybe he was even half expecting, that so too would he meet his end in almost identical fashion. It’s eerie to imagine, especially when you consider, that just as the crash which killed his parents marked the record for being the worst in the history of US aviation at that date, so too did Leonard’s flight, on that fateful beginning of the 1979 Memorial Day weekend. A record which still holds to this day, and hopefully continues to hold for all days to come.
Thank you for this video. It was very informative. I have personal interest in this particular airline disaster as my grandparents were aboard this flight. It happened before I was born so I never knew them.
Obviously, you are misleading people with the images, of the Indiana State Police as they assisted with the crash investigation of NWA flight 710, which crashed in Perry County, Indiana on March 17th, 1960. Contrary to what you show at the 6:57 and 7:37 marks and at various other times in the video, the Indiana State Police were not involved in the investigation into the crash of AA flight 1.
It should still be called New York International Airport. That sleaze ball Kennedy never lived in New York. He only cheated on his wife, Jackie, with Marilyn Monroe and others here. It was only because Mayor Wagner wanted to keep for himself the Catholic vote.
I really enjoy these historical documentary style videos you do, but it hurts to see that this video has so few views. Why do you think that is? Did you piss someone at TH-cam off? Are you being throttled? Anyway, if I could afford to support you on Patreon right now I totally would, because this stuff is great and it's clear you put a lot of work into it.
I've never been on a plane, but not because I don't want to, I just never have the chance. This is very unlikely to happen, so you really have pretty much nothing to worry about.
@@joshuafox6072 This unfortunately isn't really true at all there are countless TH-cam documentaries like this one about countless jet and many small plane crashes over many decades and almost always everybody was killed. The impact is much worse than being in a car because people are in a plane that weighs like a zillion tons and it's like a zillion tons in the sky and then it crashes down to the ground and many explode into huge fires.
Okay, I tried to take this seriously, but this has to be a joke, right? It feels like it was originally scripted in Russian. Or maybe Chinese. But was then translated to German, then back to Russian, then to Portuguese, and finally... wait for it ..... ENGLISH! Also, have you ever even seen a Boeing 707? Because this video is full of stock footage of everything but a 707. It's just all so factually incorrect. If you want to avoid this issue in the future, here one idea: Look at a photograph of a 707. You'll see it has no propellers. It has jet engines. Four of them. Instead, you used completely random film clips of a DC-4, several DC-6s, a Lockheed Electra, at least one Convair 540. Zero stars.
RIP

"Some of the passengers were on their way to a golf tournament. Apparently, the minute the plane hit, the bay turned plaid." - Pete Campbell
One of Pete's best moments in the entire series.
What i find really interesting is that American alone has three seperate crashes all with the flight number 1
And Leonard Stogel died on American 191, and his parents died on this one.
The radio fixed the night before? That is questionable. Also to note Linda McCartney Mother was on this plane.
You are a very underrated youtuber, you could have a career in making TV documentaries.
I appreciate that! Now that would be exciting. :)
Back when JFK was still known as Idlewild, and the 707 was the "Queen of the Skies"...
It should still be called New York International Airport.

Linda McCartneys mother died in this crash 🙁
Louise S. Eastman (November 9, 1911 - March 1, 1962). 😢💔

I am sad 😥

@@mofftarkin6010 ok? I'm just saying that planes are safer than you think they are.

Hey, Squid
Mr. Hotvedt was on that flight
Whenever I hear "Idlewild" I think of the Goodfellas heist
Yes...where a time-traveling 747 flew over them.
99% of that footage isnt even a 707 good video otherwise
Noticed that too
Exactly! However, it did provide some great footage of prop-Liners!
It should be noted Bendix manufacturered the autopilot
that background voices are distracting
This is the most boring crash documentary I've ever seen... Almost fell asleep
No one asked 💀☠️💀

Hi

Talking beautiful English, but the thinking is still Eastern European. Interesting.
