  • Hindi vs. Punjabi - How similar are Hindi and Punjabi? With the rise of Hindi vs. Punjabi mashups and music videos, many people have been asking questions like "Are Hindi and Punjabi the same?" and "Are Hindi and Punjabi mutually intelligible?" In this video, we will attempt to answer your questions about Hindi and Punjabi by comparing simple vocabulary words. Both Hindi and Punjabi belong to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family, which also includes Bengali, Urdu, and Marathi.
    Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, is one of the two official languages of the Government of India, along with the English language. It is spoken by 490 million people worldwide. Hindi is also one of the official languages of Fiji.
    Punjabi is a language with more than 125 million native speakers around the world. It is the native language of the Punjabi people, an ethnolinguistic group of the cultural region of Punjab, which encompasses northwest India and eastern Pakistan. In India, the Punjabi language is written with Gurmukhi script. In Pakistan, Punjabi is written with the Shahmukhi script.

    In Tamil, there's a word called "Kōṭai(kōḍai)" means horse... The original meaning of word is "hot weather" or "summer", but it also mean horse because horse 🐎 was imported from Middle Eastern countries by Tamil kings because horse wasn't native to India especially southern part of India... Most probably they named it that way because of the climate in Middle East... In Malay, horse is called "kuda"...

    Actually this Punjabi man is Indian and speaking Indian dialect that is similar to Urdu/Hindi or even I think he don't know to speak Punjabi. He is counting 1 2 3 same as Hindi while in Pakistani Punjab the dialect and words are different from Hindi and when you listen you actually feel differences between Punjabi and Hindi . Like we count
    Hykk, Doy'n, Trai, Chaar, Punj, Chaiyn, Satt, Attth,Naon, Daah.
    Then we say
    Laal = Ratta,
    Peela = Khatta
    Hara = Sava.
    And they choose those words that are common in almost 5 to 6 language like Urdu Hindi Punjabi Persian Turkish Arabic. These words are common in these languages. I challenge this Hindi speaker that I will write words in Punjabi then answer me if these words are available in Hindi Urdu or not.
    Dohni, Chikku, ratt etc. Punjabi and Hindi are totally two different languages.

These Hindi/Urdu wallahs have always tried and will always try to divide punjabis on the basis of religion so that they can dominate on Punjabis and impose their language. As a native punjabi speaker I completely understand what you mean. I live in the US and I believe it's a similar analogy to that of how Brits can understand Americans but Americans can't understand Brits as easily. Punjabi has a lot more slang and a choppier flow to it than Hindi. Hindi is very proper and well put together. Hindi is almost like American English spoken in the 1800s. Punjabi is almost the modern American English with heavy slang. Both Hindi and Punjabi are similar languages though. I recall being an 8 year old when I last went to India and I spoke with this other boy. He spoke Hindi while I spoke Punjabi and we both became friends!
